Avatar n tn why can't his HDL and LDL be calculated?
Avatar m tn s are easy to lower, cut back on all sugars, breads, pastas and alcohol, that usually is enough. If not, you can try a Fenofibrate which is a very effective drug.
315318 tn?1353251800 The results were amazing, I had even lower LDL, higher HDL and very low trigs. The great thing also is that I can eat anything I want and over two years my levels have stayed the same. Good luck in finding your problem and happy new year to you too.
Avatar n tn Also, your numbers are high enough that you really should discuss a statin for your Cholesterol and a fenofibrate for your serum TGLs as life style changes may not be enough. I would try that first and retest on 3- 6 months and see if it had any impact. If not, I would consider the meds. Your profile does not give an age or gender, but if you are young now is the time to get a handle on it.
Avatar n tn doctor has adviced me to take rosuvastatin and fenofibrate tablets.can you please tell me whether it helps to reduce weight?
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
159619 tn?1707018272 I lost 40 pounds, stopped eating sugar and other empty carbs, burgers, etc. and started exercising. The effect is that HDL is up (to almost 50), triglycerides are almost zero, total is down to 190, but my LDL stays on the high side of 130. It seems like most of the reduction is the space between LDL+HDL and total.
Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
955035 tn?1246539172 Hello. I am new to this site and am hopeful to learn some more about my Hashimoto's. After several years struggling with anxiety & depression issues, I was diagnosed last August with Hashimoto’s at age 30. I am relieved to know that “I’m not crazy…but my thyroid is”; however I’m still struggling. I’m beginning to wonder if my DHEA-Sulfate level (which I believe is high) may indicate something going on with my adrenal glands in addition to the Hashimoto’s.
Avatar f tn The dose is Rosvin F (fenofibrate 145 mg and Rosuvastatin 10 mg) daily one time. Muscle pain and headache is symptoms.
315318 tn?1353251800 Once I started taking the fenofibrate, I suddenly got muscular pain, especially in my thighs and getting up a flight of stairs became difficult. I stopped taking the fenofibrate pill nearly ten days ago and the pain has subsided. My first question is: has anybody else been prescribed these medicines together and what was their experience. On the internet, there are articles which show strong interaction between these two types of lipid lowering drugs.
Avatar f tn There is no problem with taking a fenofibrate and a statin, it is perfectly safe, I take them both myself. There are possible side effects when taking a fibrate and a statin, you should ask you doctor to be sure.
Avatar m tn Post tests have stopped smoking ,started moderate exercising and am trying and to have a balanced diet. Earlier my eating pattern was bad, bowl of cereals and a glass of Juice for Brf, 90% no Lunch during the day and Dinner used to be heavy. I still have not consulted any doctor but would like to know what are the measures to reduce my raised levels.and do i need to consult one and be on the medication. Any major apparent risks, if there is one what measures should be taken.
Avatar n tn Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
Avatar m tn It is used in combination with a diet low in cholesterol and saturated fat. Fenofibrate may also be used for purposes other than those mentioned. Fenofibrate is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. You need to follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely. Sideeffects of using fenofibrate are severe stomach pain, muscle weakness, vomiting, fever.
Avatar m tn Today we did the blood test for my husband and his TG is 519 mg/dl. Total Cholestrol is 208 mg/dl, LDL is 142 mg/dL and HDL is 34.42 mg/dl.His S. amylase is slightly elevated 112 U/l. Now a new develpoment happened is slightly elevated TSH of 4.59, which was normal till 1 year back. So please advice what this indicates? is he developing hypothyroidism? how can he regulate his TG and TSH?
Avatar f tn The tablet is a combination of Rosuvastatin and Fenofibrate. As such, it lowers BOTH LDL or and triglycerides (which will bring down your total cholesterol). Exercise or any physical activity is supposed to help with HDL. Also factoring into the ratio. Lifestyle things along with medication can be very beneficial. Did they give you liver function testing prior to starting. As to side effects, there is a good chance you won't have any.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist has prescribed an increasing dosing regimen of colestipol granules to help lower my LDL level. Here are my last two most current labs from before I started the colestipol. I eat a lower fat diet, exercise by walking 40 minutes 5-6 times per week, don't smoke, control borderline hypertension with 5mg lisinopril daily, have a BMI of 30 but don't have enough self control to lose any weight.
Avatar n tn s the quality of the particles and not the count that matters. Many people with HDL counts as high as yours have HDL-3 particles that are very small and not as effective when binding to LDL. If it were me I would give pravastatin a chance, but if I had the same side effects and I could not live with them, I would try something like Zetia. You could also add a fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGLs as well, very safe and no side effects.
Avatar m tn Also, try to avoid processed foods as well and stay with fruits and veggies, that should help get you where you need to be. Plus, this type of diet is good for your BP as well, just cut back on salt as well.
Avatar n tn My son is 28 yrs old, is 6 foot tall, weighs 170lbs and is very healthy except he has a Triglyceride level of 1200, HDL 27 and cholesterol level of 229. We have the following conditions in our family: Heart disease, diabetes, stroke and thyroid problems.....
Avatar f tn t have any alcohol and see me 3months also again he said my cholesterol levels still high, so i got scared and called lab Co got my results in hand and alt is 51 and ast is 51 cholesterol 261 and trigly 304 hdl 24 ldl 176 and vldl 61 so my friend said you need another Dr so 3/5/12 I saw another Dr took a battery of blood work f/u 3/12/12 and was given a copy of labs and was told it was negative for hep and HIV and cholesterol was same biliribin was negitive also BUT ggt 138 and ast is now 88 and
Avatar m tn On top of that there are types of Cholesterol. LDL which is considered the bad type, and HDL which is considered a good type to have as it gets rid of the LDL. I wouldn't consider a total cholesterol level of 231 to be intermediate, I'd think that would in the high range or very close to it.
Avatar m tn my mother,55y, she got her lab result with rising in cholesterol and triglyceride about 3month ago. she started to take fenofibrate 200mg once a day. and now new lab result show normal range of all types of fat. does she need to continue with a maintenance dose of fenofibrate or it isnt necessary?
Avatar m tn Simvastatin is usually better tolerated than Lipitor. It would help to know what your LDL and HDL levels are as well, we could possibly give you a better answer. A couple other points, muscle pan and headaches are a symptom of so many other conditions so please make sure you work with your doctor to rule out other underlying causes before deciding it is the statin, which admittedly it could be.
Avatar m tn My cholesterol now runs about 185, with a good part of that being a high HDL, and high HDL is good, seems to be at odds with going for a lower total, but that is the case. You didn't mention heart rate, if it is in the 50s it could contribute to dizziness. And remember to ask what your Oximeter (Oxygen saturation) number is,should be between 95-100%. I doubt 100% is possible. Below 90% is very troublesome and I think critical - need oxygen.
