Avatar n tn ve noticed that there are many newly diagnosed Type 1 Youths that are engaging in the sport of Cross Country running. This is wonderful because it must be the hardest sport to regular blood glucose (bg) for. This says a lot about our kids. My daughter is 16 yrs old and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes last August just before the beginning of her first year of cross country. She's always excelled in sports especially those that require a lot of running and tough training.
Avatar m tn My son was diagnosed in December of 2013. He is now 13 years old. Type 1 is certainly a challenge for him and us. He likes Basketball and Baseball and now has an interest in Cross Country. I don't think we quite figured out the others sports before their seasons were up. He practices Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday's with meets once a week. He decided a week and a half after Cross Country started to join. The coach said sure that's great. I think its great too.
Avatar n tn My 17-yr old daughter is a competitive high school cross country runner. She has never been officially diagnosed with anything, and is generally very healthy. However, she has had episodes during races which we believe are related to hypoglycemia. She will run very strongly for the first 3 miles. When she has these "spells", she completely crashes during the last tenth of a mile. She becomes very pale and pasty, and can barely stumble across the finish line.
Avatar f tn My daughter was running in a cross country meet after having a cold all week and taking cold medicine. During the race her pupils became extremely small; she was not sweating; hands and feet numb and white, and her heart rate was really high. She had to stop. Does it mean oxygen deprivation? Did the cold meds do this? The pupils are what really scared me.
Avatar n tn My daughter was diagnosed about 4 weeks ago with type 1 diabetes and now is in the midst of cross country running season. Our difficulties are resulting from the early morning runs which she finds difficult after eating. She seems to get "stitches" fairly often. Also, if she has a particularly vigorous run, she often will get hypo episodes mid-morning before (or sometimes after) her snack.
Avatar n tn I am 18 years old and have been running Track and Cross Country for 5 years. I noticed that when I run hard such as when I do a workout or run a race I gag violently. It always happens when I finish and usually also happens in the middle of my run. It started with my very first race in 7th grade and has never gone away or even diminished slightly. It is very painful and often slows down my running while in the process but I have never thrown up or felt sick.
Avatar f tn My high school senior is a cross country racer. They run 5-8 miles a day. Only after a race he has symptoms of being pale, nauseated, headache 45 minutes after his race. By then the other runners are back to normal. He had me check his pulse 30 minutes after his race and it was going so fast you couldn't count it. He decided to lay down and in 2-3 minutes I checked his pulse again and could feel it was 100-110 beats/minute. The paramedics came. His blood pressure was fine.
Avatar f tn Dear Beazo, Yes, a move like that is always problematic, and sometimes a trap. Same thing as older folks moving away from where they've lived for decades, just to get away from the snow or whatever. Then they discover they've lost their context, friends, etc., and they hate it. Sometimes they just move back. The wise ones visit, longer and longer, till they pretty well know it's all right to stay. You've moved for the relationship, and it's perfectly understandable.
Avatar m tn During the time I was active in competitive running I also experienced a reduction in heart rate a day or two after a race. This would generally decline from around 46 to around 40. I am not sure why this is and I always thought it might be related to less resistance for blood flow through expanded arteries? However, I never felt oxygen deprived and this may indicate something more serious. In addition to the lower rate, following a race I would become dizzy when standing.
Avatar f tn I am 39 yr old female, I run 6 miles a day 7 days a week. A week ago I first felt a twinge in my pelvic area while jogging it was intermittent and I ran through it. The next day I took one step into jogging and the second step I felt excruciating pain. I stopped immediately in reaction, and pulled a groin muscle in doing so. The adductor is mostly healed, but the pelvic pain is there any time I try to jog, within the first 2 steps.
Avatar f tn and started training on November 2017, everything was going fine until my first SVT while running on 25 March 2018, I was about to cross the 10k when suddenly I felt something on my chest, lack of strength and air, some pain, I couldn't bread no more, I felt like I was going to collapse right there...
Avatar f tn Hi, you are right, I don't know what I had, but what I do know that the moment it happened, I felt my pulse (neck). Gloves are really sensitive so it's not that I had a distorted feeling. My normal HR during a race is about 160-180. Depends on how heavy the race was. So I presume before it started it had to be something like that. Then it felt my heart made a "hiccup".
193609 tn?1292180293 Let me tell you a little story- in college I ran cross country- Drexel had a track team and they had some great sprinters on scholarship for track- well, my 2nd or 3rd year they cut the track program- so there was this guy who came over to run cross country- he was about 6'5", tall, muscular, lean, black man- beautiful runner- perfect runners body- for a sprinter... he could kill anyone on a track- he COULD NOT RUN DISTANCE! it was so funny!
Avatar f tn So, does your high school or college or wherever your cross country team is from have a trainer? They are a really great resource. You may have what is called runner's knee. The recommendations for runner's knee are to rest. That's hard for a runner. But also if you can't just flat out take a break, do pain free running. If sprinting hurts it, don't sprint. If you can only run for 20 minutes at a fast clip without pain, do that.
Avatar f tn I did some exams, stress test, 24h holter, echocardiogram, ECG (bradycardia), and they all checked normal, but I this week I started running again, I went for a 10k run 2 days ago, everything checked ok, while this morning I was running while my wife was ridding her bike, I had done like just 3k when suddenly there was the hit on the chest, the lack of air, and some dizziness, but mutch more weaker than the previous experience...
Avatar n tn I am the mother of a newly diagnosed (1 week ago) 17 year old son with type 1 diabetes. He is a distance runner in school both cross country(5K) and 1600 m in track and field. We need some suggestion on how to procede with training; ie, eating before and after practice and actual meets, will he need to inject insulin before a meet? Any information will be helpful. Thanks!
Avatar f tn i recently underevent a strenevous cross country races for about 1 weeks. the result is seen in my eyes. my left eye has become visibly smaller.it is usually a dry one. but one thing is for sure is that both of my eyes have become smaller and shrinken in size. can it be due to dehydration? i wore contact lens which was stored in my lens case unused for 2 months for 4 days in my left eye alone.
973741 tn?1342342773 t cause this noticeable of a problem. They ARE running a lot of miles. Going with the doctor running some tests sounds like a good idea to me.
1530342 tn?1405016490 I've never heard of such a thing. I ran track & cross-country at a state-level, when I was in high-school, and it was "every man for himself" (back then, anyway). As Tako said, a totally selfless act. In the same situation, I probably would have just run around the guy, finished the race, THEN gone back to help them!
Avatar n tn ok more info...I've been running cross country, 3 miles was the most i've run in nov.
1310633 tn?1430224091 Washington (CNN) -- Race relations in the United States have "certainly gotten better," despite widely-varying opinions on the criminal justice system's fairness, incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Monday. In an interview with CNN's Dana Bash, the Kentucky Republican called pointed to South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, a Republican, who in November became the first black senator elected in the South since Reconstruction.
Avatar f tn i am also a runner and have been running since 77. i am in love with the feeling of running and don t know any other way to get to that "place" BUT i agree with moose on this one every line that he wrote. if i were you i would get my levels in the best place and start looking forward to next year. i ran endurance for many years and now i am very happy running just a few miles with lifting and yoga. many times i ran too far and too long and didn t pay attention to feeling bad.
671285 tn?1292660161 I do not have any shortness of breath but I notice that whenever I do exercise my heart seems to race afterwards for nearly half an hour while I am resting. The pounding is rather frightening. Should I be concerned? I also feel fatigued, sometimes light headed (although rarely). Is this normal for a woman in her late 20's who is out of shape? * *I have had an EKG and heart monitor which came out fine.
Avatar f tn However, the custom inserts he built for me helped mitigate the pain and I continued going to the store for inserts throughout highschool. He built a special pair of inserts for me during my time as a competitive cross country runner, which seemed to fit well and felt natural at the time (there was different support for each foot, because my shoes wore differently/unevenly.
Avatar f tn Personally I think he needs to have his butt out there helping to save the manatees. Oh, Obama was golfing? Well now shame on him as well for taking a day off from running our country! How dare he! But even when he is working, he usually gets dissed regardless so good for him!!!!!! I do believe however that this CEO has no other full time job? Gee would that make a difference?
Avatar n tn I signed up for a charity obstacle race, then found out I was pregnant. I knew not to do the obstacles but felt it would be ok to do the race since I exercise regularly anyway. I did the race this weekend. Then I did research and found overheating and going over 102 degrees can cause issues for the vital organs forming. I'm 5 weeks and I felt fine. I didn't feel like I got overheated and felt like any other good work out. And I'm not having any issues.
Avatar f tn ve not been doing much the past few weeks, I would suggest easing yourself back into running and staying at a level that u feel comfortable with. Just what I would do...
Avatar f tn On 2/7/14 she was a volunteer at the Red Cross blood drive at school, and upon watching her older sister donate blood, she became faint and had to lay down. She did not lose consciousness; just was weak and lightheaded. Two days after that episode, she fainted during cheer practice. This has now been occuring approximately every 2 days only while she's at school. She's had 2 EKG's (normal), bloodwork normal, EEG just done, waiting on results.
