Avatar m tn Etanercept Study Group. Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA. ***@**** BACKGROUND/AIMS: Current therapies for patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) do not achieve sustained viral clearance in most patients, and are associated with severe toxic effects. Our aim was to investigate the efficacy and safety of etanercept as adjuvant to interferon and ribavirin in treatment-naive patients with HCV.
Avatar n tn Can a perispinal etanercept injection help heal severe pain linked to the piriformous muscle?
Avatar m tn Can anyone tell me if peri spinal etanercept works ? I have had four back surgeries since 2000. The last two were for decompression of the L-4, L-5 and S-1 nerve roots. My third surgery was performed in January 2011 and the last one in July 2012. I am still having pain around my right hip, left calf , left ankle and left foot. MRI and CT Myloegram do not show anything. Help !
Avatar m tn The standard therapy options include intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapharesis, corticosteroids, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, etanercept, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon alpha 2a and tacrolimus. Current ones are interferon beta 1a, rituximab, and high dose cyclophosphamide. Your neurologist needs to apprise you of the long-term side effects since prolonged therapy are required. Botox shots are not known to be used in therapy.
Avatar f tn Hi, this may seem like an odd question but I'm really having difficulty getting a straight answer from the neurologists I have asked. I realize that the field is still growing and am comfortable getting the "I just don't know" answer. Is it POSSIBILE that a head trauma or any other not yet named brain disorder could cause a result on a PET scan similar to alzheimer's.
Avatar f tn (CNN) -- Greg Kalkwarf was a teenager when his grandfather told him and his brother, with increasing anger and frustration, "Dean, get out there and milk the cows!" There were indeed cows at his grandparents' farm, but Dean -- Kalkwarf 's uncle -- wasn't there, and the grandchildren weren't supposed to be milking them.
398059 tn?1447945633 Not sure if these have already been posted or discussed, but: From Julie Stachowiak, Ph.D. , your Guide to Multiple Sclerosis It is common for people to refer to "a senior moment" or say something like "must be my Alzheimer's disease" when they forget a name or an appointment. I never really thought that was particularly sensitive or funny, since Alzheimer's is real and debilitating.
Avatar f tn I just started researching this topic as I have 2 aunts on my mom's side with Alzheimer's. From what I've read thus far, 7 years seems to be the average life expectancy. But, I don't know how the statistics would apply to someone in their 90s; nor if old age has an impact on how quickly the disease advances. I would think that old age could very well take the person before they actually succumb to the disease... but, that's just my non-professional, uneducated guess.
Avatar n tn Hi Margypops, Axona is a brand-new prescription therapy launched in March 2009 for the treatment of mild-moderate Alzheimer's disease. As Alzheimer's is marked by a decrease in glucose in the brain (the primary source of food for the brain), Axona acts by providing/metabolizing glucose in the body to act as an alternate source of food for the brain.
951090 tn?1253316948 I understand the basics of Alzheimer's disease, but I am curious as to why it is typically found in older or elderly adults. I know that as we age our cells change and they can mutate or deteriorate. Since this can happen at any age, I am wondering why dementia disorders are less common in children and young adults. I mean, theorectically, a child could develop Alzheimer's disease, could they not?
Avatar m tn Not exactly what the article said, so let's tamp down the fear a bit. First of all, it didn't say it increases the onset by 25 years. It says Alzheimer's now appears to start 25 years before any signs are noted. No relation there to covid. What has been widely reported by anyone who has been keeping up with the news, some people suffer long-haul covid, and those are the people these docs are concerned about.
2007231 tn?1327807016 As I do have faith that one day my fathers Alzheimer's Disease will be treated one day. "Let go and let god" they say. We finally found something that treats alzheimer's and we have noticed much improvement. I was reading through research documents from www.smartdrugsforthought.com and found several profound medical documents and studies with the use of a cognitive and memory supplement, called Piracetam, in Alzheimer's patients.
900662 tn?1469390305 Just a follow up, The MS Nero was quite clear that it is not Alzheimer's doesn't look like Alzheimer's was hundred percent sure it's not Alzheimer's so it is off label use.. This was probably the best conversation I've ever had with the MS Neuro, we were probably on the phone almost 20 minutes and then I spoke with the MS nurse the next day for half an hour more the. I have routine office visit in March, the meds will have an effect in 4-6 weeks.
Avatar f tn I have been doing research on brain Lesions. One article said alzheimer's patients can have them. I have had 4 MRI's I have brain lesions on my brain. Each MRI the lesions have not changed. The MS dr does not want to diagnose me. so I'm trying to find out more.
Avatar n tn Hi advice777, I would ask the prescriber to reconsider. I do not know the effect of any of the drugs you mention but it takes time to find the right combination of drugs. Maybe another combination would help her better? Depression is common when having alzheimer's. Some patients who have alzheimer's knows that they are forgetting things and that something affects their short-term memory but they can't remember exactly what it is.
144586 tn?1284666164 Rather than me doing a " cut and paste" do a google search for "Alzheimer's" and "treatment" and "ultrasound". It's too early to get hopes very high but researchers have apparently developed a treatment that may reverse Alzheimer's in a certain percentage of patients.
