429647 tn?1249753429 only to find out that her cancer is estrogen postive and probably caused or in some part aided in the growth of her masses. This is a very touchy subject on this forum, and as much as I love and adore Mary, she and I are on opposite sides on this one. Flashes are horrid, I will agree that I have had a really tough time with them as well as the other symptoms of menopause....but, you know what....I am alive. Gather all the facts you can....best of luck.
326352 tn?1310994295 mother diagnosed post-menopausal DCIS, maternal aunt diagnosed post-menopausal Stage II then IV then died from complications of breast and lung cancer, father diagnosed 15 years ago with prostate cancer (which is also an estrogen related cancer) and died from prostate cancer 2 years ago, maternal uncle (only 1 of 7) has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Maternal grandmother had stomach cancer. Paternal grandmother died of old age.
Avatar f tn I had the surgery and have been on the estradial patch for at least 5 years. I am on .1 and .5 patch every 4 days. I am now 40 and just went to a new doc and she was shocked I was on such a high dose. The previous doc did blood work and it showed I needed that much estrogen. Here is the scary part. She asked why I wasn't on progesterone and I said I didn't need it because I don't have a uterus. That is what every doctor told me in the past.
Avatar n tn http://www.cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/NWS_1_1x_Flaxseed_Ginseng_Show_Promise_for_Cancer_Patients.asp "Lead researcher Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, PhD, said previous studies of flaxseed and a low-fat diet have shown good results in prostate cancer, but researchers weren't sure if the benefits came from the diet, the flaxseed, or both.
Avatar f tn Dear Amy good question personally I am in favor of estrogen replacement , especially at your age.
Avatar m tn I was on androgel for several years with good libido results before discontinuing due to prostate cancer. After brachytherapy for my cancer, I am in remission, and after 2+ years resumed taking androgel. I am on androgel again, and have high Testosterone levels (about 1000), but my libido has never recovered. I also have had hypothyroidism, but have been taking synthroid for it for many years with no adverse impact on my libido. Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do?
Avatar m tn t try OTC medications as they can mimic soy in the body, which cancer cells can view as estrogen. It sounds like you have your cancer under control. So, talk to your doctor and see if you can come up with some alternatives that would help you with the side effects. Best wishes to you.
Avatar f tn Could you tell me if eating soy would interfere with the estrogen patch I take? I am on the vivelle patch .1mg and was wondering if eating edamames would help. Can the phytoestrogens be taken with the estrogen patch? Thank you so much for your help!
Avatar f tn t take it because when I had my recurrence in 2007, my cancer was tested for estrogen receptors and found to be very receptive to estrogen. In fact, I am currently on an estrogen blocker in an attempt to starve what cancer cells I still have. The side effects are not pleasant, and I take Boniva to try to keep from having more bone loss, but that's just the choice I and my doctor made.
6708370 tn?1471490210 So sorry about your diagnosis Linda. Wanted to write as I'm also a Breast Cancer survivor. 15 years. Did the sentinel node which spares the removal of most Nodes, and helps from getting lymphademia in the future. What I did want tho to convey on this forum is that there is a procedure called Mammosite Therapy where its only 10 days or so for Tx, and not time consuming when going thru radiation. I believe they insert a balloon into the lumpectomy cavity and direct the radiation.
Avatar f tn I have researched widely the side effects of radiation (my husband is currently undergoing proton beam therapy for prostate cancer) and do not want it to the left breast. I also had a total hysterectomy done 8 yrs ago for severe endometriosis. I have been on low dose estrogen patch since then. It seems that radiation now would be overkill. Has anyone else been in this situation?
Avatar m tn Rather, prostate cancer can metastasize to the breast. (Remember that it remains prostate cancer; the cancer cells are prostate cancer cells, not breast cancer cells.) All mammals, male and female, are born with breast buds and ductal cells. At puberty girls' breasts develop and the ducts enlarge and also grow lobules to make milk. Even though male breasts do not undergo this development, breast cancer can still occur in the breast ducts.
Avatar m tn I was trying to learn more about if there was dangerous effects of eating to much dairy. Mainly butter and how much hormones like estrogen were in say a pound of butter. I only ask because I did something stupid last week and I ate a pound of butter in one sitting after seeing others do it on youtube.
Avatar n tn Toprol (beta blockers) Inhibit healthy levels of the catecholamine hormones (epinephrine and nor-epinephrine) Adrenalin. Thus they inhibit good estrogen, allowing the bad estrogen to possibly promote cancer. The following is from www.vrp.com read the whole artical under (DIM). If you have a-fib and on a beta blocker I would hesitate to supplement with (dim). Any increase in Adrenalin could cause a-fib.
394052 tn?1203100849 These are all on maternal side. Brother now with prostate cancer at age 55 and me with stage 1b clear cell ovarian cancer at age 55 (no sign of disease now). I realize with older people and cancer, the docs have always told me, well they were just old enough.to get cancer, which has always annoyed me as I have been doing medical transcription for 40 years now.
1137554 tn?1263237018 Men with harmful BRCA1 mutations also have an increased risk of breast cancer and, possibly, of pancreatic cancer, testicular cancer, and early-onset prostate cancer. However, male breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer appear to be more strongly associated with BRCA2 gene mutations (2–4).
Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?
1616953 tn?1443835511 My two uncles have (had) prostate cancer. One had the type that spread quickly and he died rather young. The younger uncle was a little more careful about (Fairly) regular physicals and having a PSA done. He caught his prostate cancer in time that chemical castration and hormone therapy is keeping him around for a while. He doesn't much care for the estrogen side effects. I'm not sure how he deals with not having testosterone. Anyway my PSA went from 1.
Avatar f tn I am also worried bc I read with estrogen patches there is a higher chance to develop breast cancer. My mom and aunt both passed away from breast cancer within 8 months of each other in 2011 and 2012. My grandmother also had it. That really scares me. My doctor tells me nothing to worry about. I'm starting to think I need a new doctor. If anybody has any experience with any of this please share!
1651832 tn?1301690605 Hi, It's been awhile since I've written anything about Estriol. It was touted as the next great thing about 10 years ago. It was used (and probably still is) in Bi-est, which is an estrogen combination of Estradiol and Estriol that you can usually only pick up from a Compounding pharmacy. It was big in Europe (as I recall...) but it was because it was tougher to get it here in the US and the push to use mostly or only Estradiol was not as prevalent at that time.
Avatar m tn Having higher than normal levels of estrogen though are linked to prostate cancer and heart disease. And they are probably going to want to make sure there is nothing like a tumor in your testes. There's also all those other things like enlarged breast tissue, loss of muscle mass and erectile dysfunction that can happen too if estrogen gets too out of control for a dude. None of this is to scare you, but just that you want to follow up on this.
Avatar n tn The last scan has cleared a small patch I had. Tamoxifen is supposed to cut the estrogen supply. I do not know whether Evista will promote Estrogen !! I cannot get to other forum because of the daily quota for new questions and help. Hopefully I can pose this question to Dr.Ann Kathryn one of these days. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Hi, The issue with soy is that it contains chemicals that are very similar to estrogens. If the breast cancer is estrogen receptor positive, some of the treatments(Tamoxifen and others)) that are given work by blocking estrogen production. By ingesting other estrogens, there is a theoretical concern that a person could be interfering with the therapeutic effect of reducing estrogen and, in fact, give the tumor the food it needs to grow.
Avatar f tn which was the decision i made Im 46 I now use estrogen replacement a vivelle dot patch very easy and accurate..no hot flashes no crazy normal sex drive....if you was in you 20s it may be different ..I strongly advise you to remove them ..and never ever have to worry about ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn Some kind of very low dose of estrogen or use of estrogen creme should be allowed to stop this pain. I know the doctors say NO ESTROGEN as the cancer will return. Well it may return on its own and I do not like to take this pain medication. What research says that we women must go totally against what God put into us? We are all still guinie pigs in this treatment or so it seems to me and I really get tired of having to think constantly about this cancer.
