Common Questions and Answers about Estrogen patch cancer

vivelle-dot

429647 tn?1249753429 only to find out that her cancer is estrogen postive and probably caused or in some part aided in the growth of her masses. This is a very touchy subject on this forum, and as much as I love and adore Mary, she and I are on opposite sides on this one. Flashes are horrid, I will agree that I have had a really tough time with them as well as the other symptoms of menopause....but, you know what....I am alive. Gather all the facts you can....best of luck.
Avatar f tn I had the surgery and have been on the estradial patch for at least 5 years. I am on .1 and .5 patch every 4 days. I am now 40 and just went to a new doc and she was shocked I was on such a high dose. The previous doc did blood work and it showed I needed that much estrogen. Here is the scary part. She asked why I wasn't on progesterone and I said I didn't need it because I don't have a uterus. That is what every doctor told me in the past.
Avatar f tn Dear Amy good question personally I am in favor of estrogen replacement , especially at your age.
Avatar m tn t try OTC medications as they can mimic soy in the body, which cancer cells can view as estrogen. It sounds like you have your cancer under control. So, talk to your doctor and see if you can come up with some alternatives that would help you with the side effects. Best wishes to you.
Avatar f tn Could you tell me if eating soy would interfere with the estrogen patch I take? I am on the vivelle patch .1mg and was wondering if eating edamames would help. Can the phytoestrogens be taken with the estrogen patch? Thank you so much for your help!
Avatar f tn t take it because when I had my recurrence in 2007, my cancer was tested for estrogen receptors and found to be very receptive to estrogen. In fact, I am currently on an estrogen blocker in an attempt to starve what cancer cells I still have. The side effects are not pleasant, and I take Boniva to try to keep from having more bone loss, but that's just the choice I and my doctor made.
Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?
Avatar f tn I am also worried bc I read with estrogen patches there is a higher chance to develop breast cancer. My mom and aunt both passed away from breast cancer within 8 months of each other in 2011 and 2012. My grandmother also had it. That really scares me. My doctor tells me nothing to worry about. I'm starting to think I need a new doctor. If anybody has any experience with any of this please share!
1651832 tn?1301690605 Hi, It's been awhile since I've written anything about Estriol. It was touted as the next great thing about 10 years ago. It was used (and probably still is) in Bi-est, which is an estrogen combination of Estradiol and Estriol that you can usually only pick up from a Compounding pharmacy. It was big in Europe (as I recall...) but it was because it was tougher to get it here in the US and the push to use mostly or only Estradiol was not as prevalent at that time.
Avatar n tn The last scan has cleared a small patch I had. Tamoxifen is supposed to cut the estrogen supply. I do not know whether Evista will promote Estrogen !! I cannot get to other forum because of the daily quota for new questions and help. Hopefully I can pose this question to Dr.Ann Kathryn one of these days. Thanks.
Avatar f tn which was the decision i made Im 46 I now use estrogen replacement a vivelle dot patch very easy and accurate..no hot flashes no crazy normal sex drive....if you was in you 20s it may be different ..I strongly advise you to remove them ..and never ever have to worry about ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn Some kind of very low dose of estrogen or use of estrogen creme should be allowed to stop this pain. I know the doctors say NO ESTROGEN as the cancer will return. Well it may return on its own and I do not like to take this pain medication. What research says that we women must go totally against what God put into us? We are all still guinie pigs in this treatment or so it seems to me and I really get tired of having to think constantly about this cancer.
Avatar f tn so i just now at 50 got put on the low dose patch estradiol...i have been on anxiwty drugs for twenty years and was doing aoaky till a few years back so i wanted to see if the estrogen would help me...i need my sex drive back will it help with that and my mood and vagianl dryness...
Avatar f tn I have been in surgical menopause since 1996, I took estrogen for 10 years and then quit because of the increased chance of breast cancer after taking estrogen so many years. I finished treatment (without taking estrogen since 2006) and I achieved SVR. There is so much that's confusing about HCV and all the suggested factors.
Avatar f tn Estrogen causes some of the glands in the breast tissue to swell .Birth control patch causes consistent release of estrogen which causes elevated estrogen levels throughout the body making the breasts become larger. If you are too concerned it will be best to discuss it with your gynecologist. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn I have never heard of MI being a contraindication to taking estrogen (in transdermal form anyway - such as a patch or gel). Transdermals do not have the clotting risk that oral forms do.
587083 tn?1327120262 Maybe the natural things I ate, containing estrogen is the cause that I might have cancer? Also what about the underarm deodorant that contains aluminum, could this cause cancer? My mother is 93 and never had breast cancer but my sister had it last year, was operated went for 6 weeks on radiotherapy and now she is doing just fine. Please give an answer to my question.Thank you.
778044 tn?1299542934 I have a question for anyone using the Ortho Evra Patch to help control their endometriosis. It says right on the box that you are exposed to 60% more estrogen using the patch then other birth control pills. Since estrogen "feeds" endometriosis, how does this make sense? I have been advised by my doctor after 6 months of Lupron injections, to use the patch consistantly (not having a patch off week and not getting a period) until we are ready to get pregnant.
1641433 tn?1303010754 It is important your cancer is tested for hormone receptors if it has not already been tested. Ask your doctor. If your cancer is estrogen or progesterone receptor positive, HRT can cause a recurrence. It means your cancer "feeds" off the hormones, so introducing them back into your body could be the fuel the cells need to start growing again. I don't want to scare you, but that's exactly what happened to one of our young members a few years ago. Don't wait.
Avatar f tn He said this actually reduces breast cancer risks and tends to make heart healthier. the estrogen-progesterone combo is now thought to increase breast cancer risks and be unhealthy for the female heart. I had my tubes and ovaries out last Thursday, and personally I plan on not taking any hormones unless I develop symptoms i can not deal with. I am going to increase my calcium though, both with a supplement and in diet.
Avatar n tn I have been taking estrogen- progestin hrt (patch) for almost 2 years and I was advised by my doctor to change to tibulone due to the fact that my breasts are dense. Do you think this kind of hrt will give me the same kind of benefits I have with the conventional hrt?
16702 tn?1234090645 Kimchi, if we need to avoid estrogen, then I am not sure if this is good, especially for anyone who's cancer is estrogen receptor positive. I have heard that they should avoid all estrogen and even nautral. Remember all the talk we did about Oestrogens and parabens etc.? I think this would be included in that. Hope all is well with you! Don't see you on the board as much since it has changed.
Avatar f tn Does this put me at a higher risk level for breast cancer? I know I am probably overanalyzing this but it is very bothersome. I am scheduled for the (Open) Excisional biopsy next month.
Avatar f tn Oh definitely - headaches can be caused by ovarian hormone changes. Since your only ovary was removed two months ago, you may still have some of your body's own estrogen and the patch may be giving you too much. Or the fluctuations of the patch may be the cause of your headaches. The problem is that every woman who has hormonally triggered headaches is different and what works for one may or may not work for another. So it is a matter of trial and error to find what works best.
Avatar f tn She was switched from an oral estrogen pill to a patch. Her family physician and her gyn are now ok with her either continuing her estrogen or discontinuing as she sees fit. Right now that is not at the top of her list. Right now her biggest concern is getting off of the keppra that is causing her heart to slow and skip beats. Her neurosurgeon was pretty much a jerk and told her to follow up with another doctor - a neurologist. So, we are playing the bounce around between doctors game.
Avatar n tn I know some people don't like those "boot" things, but they put them on me everytime I go to the hospital, cause the nurses know I like them. It is like a little leg massage, if they put them on right. Don't know a thing about HRT's but we do have a resident "expert" on bios if you are interested in them. Good luck with your surgery.
Avatar f tn Since then I have been on an estrogen patch and felt great for the first couple of months after the procedure. I began to experience low back pain; particularly in the morning. So severe at times that I can hardly bend to put on my shoes. I did gain 20lbs but I am still active at 46 years old. Is it possible to have a prolaspe bladder as I feel that there is something coming out of me. Also, when I have sneezed or coughed, I feel a ripping in my abdomin but does not hurt.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a complete hysterectomy and have been on an estrogen patch ( vivelle dot) for ten years. I have had migraines for 30 yrs. I’m really struggling because changing the patch every three days triggers a migraine like clock work. At 12 hrs the pain begins and builds so by 24 hrs it’s debilitating. Pain meds are not an option that frequently obviously. Would it help to overlap the tone I put one on and take the old one off. Clearly the rise and fall of estrogen is the trigger.
