1137554 tn?1263237018 Men with harmful BRCA1 mutations also have an increased risk of breast cancer and, possibly, of pancreatic cancer, testicular cancer, and early-onset prostate cancer. However, male breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer appear to be more strongly associated with BRCA2 gene mutations (2–4).

Avatar m tn I was on androgel for several years with good libido results before discontinuing due to prostate cancer. After brachytherapy for my cancer, I am in remission, and after 2+ years resumed taking androgel. I am on androgel again, and have high Testosterone levels (about 1000), but my libido has never recovered. I also have had hypothyroidism, but have been taking synthroid for it for many years with no adverse impact on my libido. Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do?
6708370 tn?1471490210 So sorry about your diagnosis Linda. Wanted to write as I'm also a Breast Cancer survivor. 15 years. Did the sentinel node which spares the removal of most Nodes, and helps from getting lymphademia in the future. What I did want tho to convey on this forum is that there is a procedure called Mammosite Therapy where its only 10 days or so for Tx, and not time consuming when going thru radiation. I believe they insert a balloon into the lumpectomy cavity and direct the radiation.
Avatar m tn I was trying to learn more about if there was dangerous effects of eating to much dairy. Mainly butter and how much hormones like estrogen were in say a pound of butter. I only ask because I did something stupid last week and I ate a pound of butter in one sitting after seeing others do it on youtube.
Avatar n tn Toprol (beta blockers) Inhibit healthy levels of the catecholamine hormones (epinephrine and nor-epinephrine) Adrenalin. Thus they inhibit good estrogen, allowing the bad estrogen to possibly promote cancer. The following is from www.vrp.com read the whole artical under (DIM). If you have a-fib and on a beta blocker I would hesitate to supplement with (dim). Any increase in Adrenalin could cause a-fib.
394052 tn?1203100849 this recommendation is based on the finding that tamoxifen can significantly reduce the risk of invasive estrogen receptor positive breast cancer. less evidence was found for raloxifene. the USPSTF found good evidence that both tamoxifen and raloxifene increase the risk of thromboembolitic events (stroke, DVT, PE). they found that tamoxifen increases the risk of endometrial CA. the USPSTF recommends screening for colon CA starting at age 50 in men and women.
698356 tn?1240150727 Okay, I haven't been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. But this month I read in Women's Health magazine that constant bloating, frequent urge to pee, and frequent gas are all early symptoms of ovarian cancer that can be mistaken for ( or simply) gastrointestinal symptoms. I've been told by doctor's that it's just stress affecting me.
1616953 tn?1443835511 He caught his prostate cancer in time that chemical castration and hormone therapy is keeping him around for a while. He doesn't much care for the estrogen side effects. I'm not sure how he deals with not having testosterone. Anyway my PSA went from 1.5s then suddenly it went to 4.5 I'm to have a biopsy done but I've talked to my doctor who says its quite possible the test won't find it. *Some percentage of discovery.
Avatar m tn Having higher than normal levels of estrogen though are linked to prostate cancer and heart disease. And they are probably going to want to make sure there is nothing like a tumor in your testes. There's also all those other things like enlarged breast tissue, loss of muscle mass and erectile dysfunction that can happen too if estrogen gets too out of control for a dude. None of this is to scare you, but just that you want to follow up on this.
Avatar n tn Hi, The issue with soy is that it contains chemicals that are very similar to estrogens. If the breast cancer is estrogen receptor positive, some of the treatments(Tamoxifen and others)) that are given work by blocking estrogen production. By ingesting other estrogens, there is a theoretical concern that a person could be interfering with the therapeutic effect of reducing estrogen and, in fact, give the tumor the food it needs to grow.
Avatar f tn What you may notice is symptoms of estrogen deficiency. I had quite a few estrogen deficiency symptoms for the next four months after surgery due to my left ovary being removed. The other ovary eventually takes over the duties of the ovary that was removed....thankfully! To help with estrogen deficiency symptoms, there are phytoestrogen supplements that mimic estrogen such as Soy, Black Cohosh, Ginseng, Red Clover or **** Quai.
Avatar f tn Your estrogen levels are way too high. Total estrogen normal reference range: Day 1 - 10: 61 - 394pg/mL, Day 11–20: 122–437 pg/mL; Day 21–30: 156–350 pg/mL. High estrogen leads to excessive production of thyroid binding globulin (TBG). Although there are enough thyroid hormones in the blood, they are not taken up by the body's cells as they are inactivated by TBG. In other words, thyroid labs are in range but you have signs of low thyroid function.
Avatar n tn This type of treatment is one of the appropriate hormone (anti-estrogen) treatments of estrogen receptive breast cancer in post-menopausal women.
Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/prostate-cancer/ejaculation-prostate-cancer-risk#1 There's still a lot we don't know. It doesn't prevent some of the deadlier, more aggressive forms of prostate cancer, for example, but may help prevent some others. We don't know why.
587083 tn?1327120262 Maybe the natural things I ate, containing estrogen is the cause that I might have cancer? Avatar n tn However since I had a Turp 10 years ago my urologist is also concerned that any hormone replacement thera[y can ncrease the chance of prostate cancer. I am confused because the risks of various diseases seems to be greater then the risk of prostate cancer. I am 67 years old.
Avatar m tn I’m not surprised - I’ve seen studies on recurrent prostate cancer (rising PSA after prostate cancer surgery or radiation) that used Finasteride along w/
Avatar n tn m not waiting for the results. It cuts estrogen production by 95%. All three of my cancers were estrogen-dependent. Gimme that Aromasin!
Avatar m tn After a year of being in remission, I too had such a tough time with hot flashes and mood swings, so I took estadil and soon my marker went up, Come to find out my cancer was not tested for estrogen sensitivity. So please make sure.
233616 tn?1312787196 although if they already were on it, say for prostate problems, at least it might be nice to know some benefit would be involved. I've been following this debate for some years since losing an ovary. The tide shifted a few years ago when is became apparent the progesterone/estrogen combo carried more risks than the estrogen alone. Obviously this is still a highly debated subject, but the newer research has my OBY/GYN and many others going back to prescribing low doses.
Avatar n tn - Prostate cancer. Prostate cancer cells in remaining prostate tissue or in other parts of your body can release PSA. Checking for signs of prostate cancer is the main reason men have PSA tests. - Recurrent benign prostate growth. Some prostate tissue remains even if your entire prostate is removed. This tissue may continue to grow, leading to increased PSA levels. - Inflammation of prostate tissue (prostatitis).
