535089 tn?1400673519 Hi to all. I was recently Hospitalized with Gastroenteritis/Colitis and was wondering if anyone could give me some options for a good food regiment (liquid diet) that would help calm the intestines. I have had a recent infection including Colitis, Gastroenteritis (sp). I would also like to know what the best OTC antacid might be to calm the tummy. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn My 18 month old son was recently diagnosed with Eosinophilic colitis and is currently taking sodium chromoglicate and citirizine. We have eliminated dairy and eggs from his diet. It has helped slightly but if his symtoms continue we will need to tak out soya and wheat aswell.
Avatar m tn Has there ever been a link between eosinophilic colitis and HIV? I know eosinophilic colitis is rare in itself but since it involves white blood cells I thought I would ask. This is more of a personal type question; I know the only way to really get the answer im looking for is to get tested but how do you get over the anxiety of it all?
Avatar f tn My daughter has eosinophilic gastroenteritis and eosinophilic proctocolitis.
Avatar f tn s syndrome, the hypereosinophil syndrome, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, chronic eosinophilic pneumonia, and eosinophilic leukemia. The two phenomena of leukotriene antagonist use and the occurrence of Churg-Strauss syndrome are probably related more to the reduction in corticosteroid dose afforded by leukotriene antagonists (and the resultant unmasking of latent Churg-Strauss syndrome) than to any truly causal relationship. Patients with mild disease may be treated with prednisone.
Avatar f tn Inflammatory diseases of the colon which can present as UC include Crohn’s disease, ischemic colitis, radiation colitis, eosinophilic colitis, colorectal cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and allergic reactions to medications such as mesalamine products, NSAIDs, and antibiotics.

Avatar n tn The prime one which needs to be ruled out is gastroenteritis. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis. Other possibilities are diabetes, cyclic vomiting syndrome, liver pathologies,ETEC infection and mesenteric adenitis. In my opinion, consulting a physician will be the best because without examination,I cannot confirm a diagnosis. Hope it helps.
Avatar m tn That diagnosis can frequently be correlated with food intolerance issues. You may want to look at: http://www.medscape.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis 2 years ago. I spent 17 days in the hospital and received high dose oral steroid treatment to treat it. It went away; however, the problem has resurfaced. My doctor has recommended I start a six food elimination diet. My question is: is there anybody doing this diet and how are you avoiding these foods? They seem to be in everything at the store. MY SFED consists of egg, milk, seafood/shellfish, tree nuts/peanuts, soy, and wheat.
Avatar f tn Eosinophilic Colitis is an allergic type colitis usually from an infection such as C. Diff. It usually resolves after a year or two. If he has Ulceritive Colitis; UC is a serious illness and so is its cousin, Crohn's Disease. Both are considered Autoimmune Diseases.
Avatar m tn There is a wide range of eosinophilia with both parasitic disease and with eosinophilic colitis. The following web-site is authoritative and provides a lot of information about the latter. The first step should involve examination of your stools for parasites and eosinophils. For each of these categories of disease, the longer the condition goes untreated the more difficult it becomes to eradicate it. That you have had a blood count suggests that you have seen a medical care provider.
Avatar n tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The diarrhea is unlikely to be due to liver failure. The diarrhea could be due to gastroenteritis, malabsorption syndromes, diverticulitis, Chron's disease, ulcerative colitis and parasitic infections. For proper evaluation, you will need to consult your primary care physician, who will do a stool analysis to determine the cause.
Avatar m tn I felt fine within a few hours, then went to the doctor and had everything checked and she said she thought it was Gastroenteritis. My vitals were all good. Since Tuesday I still hear groaning, creeky and bubbly sounds especially in the morning. Today for my cheat day I bought some cookies, but 20 minutes after eating them I ran to the bathroom. I also feel more anxious, worried these days with job issues...so overall I'm not sure if this is an IBS flare up, or colitis or what.
Avatar f tn How can you tell the differnce between Eosinophilic pustular folliculitis and acne ? And would Eosinophilic pustular folliculitis be an early sign of HIV?
Avatar n tn Blood and mucus with diarrhea can be due to gastroenteritis or stomach flu, IBS, ulcerative colitis or due to malabsorption syndrome. Parasitic infections like amoebiasis and giardiasis too could be a cause. The best thing would be to consult a general practitioner or PCP and try and assess what is the cause of your problem. Take care!
Avatar n tn After deworming if the problem continues, you may want to ask your vet about eosinophilic colitis, which Boxers are predisposed to as a breed. A biopsy would be required for diagnosis. If diagnosed, this can be controlled with various antibiotics and steroids.
693811 tn?1245871706 The hospital I work in has had a very slow moving gastroenteritis going through patients and staff. I thought I had that already and it was just gut pain and was relieved with much yogurt. This virus seems to have a long incubation period. It's nothing like Norwalk.
Avatar m tn and had a colonoscopy done, he ended up taking a biopsy and said that I have eosinophilic colitis. I had a CBC blood test done before my colonoscopy and my counts came out normal but apparently my body is releasing eosinophil cells to fight off something in my colon. I am nervous it may be HIV and here is my reason (please tell me I'm way off) -eosinophils are indeed white blood cells and if these cells cannot seem to fight off whatever is giving me diarrhea isnt that a bad sign?
Avatar f tn Ive spent the last week in hospital as i couldnt stop throwing up and got too dehydrated, they put it down to gastroenteritis and IBS etc but they have referred me back to the hospital as an outpatient as ive been in there for sickness and diarrhea so many times before. I have to go back to work tomorrow now and really not looking forward to it... Please let me know how you got on and if there is anything that has worked for you or helping you.
Avatar f tn This is not a question so much as info to be added to the ongoing discussion. I too have experienced hives followed by painful daily/nightly bouts of acid reflux and belching. I've lost 8 pounds in a week due to nausea. I was tested for H. pylori(negative), lipase and cbc both normal. As a precaustion my doctor gave me a 10 day round of meds for systemic yeast. I also had a cat scan and that was normal.
Avatar f tn Hi all, For the past 2 weeks I have had numerous problems starting with my stomach. First I was feeling nauseas, gassy and tender stomach. Went to my Dr and she said it was Gastritis and put me on Kapidex 2x a day for 3 days and then once a day thereafter. The next day my lower back has starting hurting. I went in on Tuesday for pain in the back and she prescribed naxoprene and a muscle relaxer. The pain went away once from the pain medicine and now does nothing.
Avatar n tn All stool samples negative but they did do a 2nd deeper biopsy in the endoscope and found eosinophils within several areas of his GI tract. Have your doctor look into eosinophilic gastroenteritis also....or eosinophilic esophagitis. This is where they are going with us but 2 1/2 weeks of Prednisone isn't cutting it. They think it's caused by food allergies. Have your daughter tested by an allergist to be sure. I hope we can all find some answers!
