Gastroenteritis and ulcerative colitis

Common Questions and Answers about Gastroenteritis and ulcerative colitis

gastroenteritis

Avatar n tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The diarrhea is unlikely to be due to liver failure. The diarrhea could be due to gastroenteritis, malabsorption syndromes, diverticulitis, Chron's disease, ulcerative colitis and parasitic infections. For proper evaluation, you will need to consult your primary care physician, who will do a stool analysis to determine the cause.
Avatar n tn I have an update! I have sever Pan-Ulcerative Colitis, diagnosed after 200+ on a calprotectin test and ileocolonoscopy. I've been better for a month or so, been taking Pentasa and more recently started on Prednisolone 40mg. Due for a review soon, but I feel it's not quite right as I'm still having a fair amount of pain, cramps, urgency (although finally no d&v), mucus and body aches.
483733 tn?1326798446 I just find it frustrating. There is a big difference between someone with Crohn's or Colitis and GERD. Thanks for the info on the Crohn's community but I am an ulcerative colitis survivor and my son is now having active disease and really need support in that area. It would be helpful if we could even divide the forum between intestinal issues and non-instestinal.
Avatar n tn Blood and mucus with diarrhea can be due to gastroenteritis or stomach flu, IBS, ulcerative colitis or due to malabsorption syndrome. Parasitic infections like amoebiasis and giardiasis too could be a cause. The best thing would be to consult a general practitioner or PCP and try and assess what is the cause of your problem. Take care!

Avatar n tn I would NOT recommend you start smoking again as there are many other diseases and cancers caused by smoking. I also had ulcerative colitis, and I never smoked. You can read more about it in my blog.

535089 tn?1400673519 Hi to all. I was recently Hospitalized with Gastroenteritis/Colitis and was wondering if anyone could give me some options for a good food regiment (liquid diet) that would help calm the intestines. I have had a recent infection including Colitis, Gastroenteritis (sp). I would also like to know what the best OTC antacid might be to calm the tummy. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Inflammatory diseases of the colon which can present as UC include Crohn’s disease, ischemic colitis, radiation colitis, eosinophilic colitis, colorectal cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, and allergic reactions to medications such as mesalamine products, NSAIDs, and antibiotics.
709277 tn?1229116708 Sister has the ulcerative colitis, and ankylosing spondylitis. I have HLAB27 but other stuff going on with muscles sore, rash, fever, swelling of them various places. Bone aches No Sjrogens, no lupus, no lyme.
1806721 tn?1554333407 Viral gastroenteritis can cause diarrhea and fever. Ulcerative colitis often has a fever associated with it at the time of onset. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4967693/ This article talks about ulcerative colitis presenting initially including a fever of unknown origin which is said to happen in about 40% of those diagnosed. Let us know how you are doing.
Avatar f tn Hi, the white spots in stools could be due to gastroenteritis, malabsorption syndromes, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and parasitic infections. It could also be due to fungal infections or indigestion. Due to improper digestion, white specks may appear in stools. Some people have severe lactose intolerance. They are not able to digest any dairy product that includes milk, cheese, butter etc. These products may appear as white specs in the stool.
Avatar f tn I suffer from ulcerative colitis and now diagnosed with superficial bladder cancer (Ta, low grade). My bladder was perforated during tumor removal (TURBT) resulting in colitis flare up and bowels shutting down after exposure to leakage. Now offered biological therapy (BCG) treatment and worried that the expected stimulated immune response will trigger another colitis "attack". Thank you.
Avatar m tn I have been suffering from chronic ulcerative colitis (UC) over the last twenty years. I’m in control of it and lead almost a normal life. I’m currently on 3 grams of Rafassal (Mesalazine) and 200 mg of Imuran (Azathioprine). My last colonoscopy revealed multiple areas suspicious of low grade dysplasia (LGD) in sigmoid colon and recotoanal junction. There is also doubt they might be high grade dysplasia (HGD). My doctor advised that these LGDs be removed.
Avatar m tn s no known cure for ulcerative colitis, but therapies are available that may dramatically reduce the signs and symptoms of ulcerative colitis and even bring about a long-term remission. Organizations such as the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America have chapters across the country to provide information and access to support groups. You can check with your doctor and join these groups. Regards.
Avatar f tn So, ulcerative colitis can cause that. It's most likely pus if it is yellow. To me this sounds like complications of your IBS or ulcerative colitis. Have you started the medication yet? Is it helping?
Avatar f tn If this is normal then inflammatory bowel conditions such as IBS, Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis will need to be ruled out. Since you do not find any relation ship to food except butter, it is unlikely to be celiac disease. Get stool tested for parasitic infections like amoebiasis and giardiasis. You may need to consult a GI specialist. Take care!
Avatar m tn Also, irritable bowel conditions like IBS, Crohn’s ulcerative colitis and celiac disease, which can cause similar symptoms can cause bleeding into the gut which is not visible to naked eye. So, an occult stool test should be done apart from stool routine and microscopic for ova and cysts of parasites. If these tests are not conclusive, then you may need a colonoscopy to rule out a colon condition like colitis, ulcerative colitis etc.
Avatar n tn I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.

Every morning around 6.30 am or so i have a contracting pain in my lower left ribs. It's very stabbing and also I have lower back pain.

Avatar f tn I have GERT and a weak valve in my esophagus, so I am not well informed with knowledge on ulcerative colitis, however, I can give to you a government website that provides information on all digestive disorders /diseases from A to Z. Go to http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov. On the upcoming webpage, look for link on Digestion, and click. The next page lists the digestive disorders/diseases. Scroll down the list until you find UC.
