535089 tn?1400673519 Hi to all. I was recently Hospitalized with Gastroenteritis/Colitis and was wondering if anyone could give me some options for a good food regiment (liquid diet) that would help calm the intestines. I have had a recent infection including Colitis, Gastroenteritis (sp). I would also like to know what the best OTC antacid might be to calm the tummy. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Avatar n tn The prime one which needs to be ruled out is gastroenteritis. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis. Other possibilities are diabetes, cyclic vomiting syndrome, liver pathologies,ETEC infection and mesenteric adenitis. In my opinion, consulting a physician will be the best because without examination,I cannot confirm a diagnosis. Hope it helps.
Avatar n tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The diarrhea is unlikely to be due to liver failure. The diarrhea could be due to gastroenteritis, malabsorption syndromes, diverticulitis, Chron's disease, ulcerative colitis and parasitic infections. For proper evaluation, you will need to consult your primary care physician, who will do a stool analysis to determine the cause.
Avatar m tn I felt fine within a few hours, then went to the doctor and had everything checked and she said she thought it was Gastroenteritis. My vitals were all good. Since Tuesday I still hear groaning, creeky and bubbly sounds especially in the morning. Today for my cheat day I bought some cookies, but 20 minutes after eating them I ran to the bathroom. I also feel more anxious, worried these days with job issues...so overall I'm not sure if this is an IBS flare up, or colitis or what.
693811 tn?1245871706 My husband recently had a bout of gastroenteritis and he had the same pain, but he also had N/V which I have not had. I did have chills, which are relieved by vitamin C (several grams per day). The hospital I work in has had a very slow moving gastroenteritis going through patients and staff. I thought I had that already and it was just gut pain and was relieved with much yogurt. This virus seems to have a long incubation period. It's nothing like Norwalk.
1392168 tn?1280074408 Welcome to the gastroenterology community! By "gastroentheitus" do you mean gastroenteritis? It is unlikely that this is an obstruction. Have you seen a gastroenterologist about this? Have you had any testing done?
Avatar n tn Does an inflamed colon mean you have colitis? i had the stomach flu 2 weeks ago.. havnt felt normal since.. weird dull aches in my stomach and sometimes sharp pains.. ct scan said i had an inflamed colon? wtf could this be.. it is primarily on rite side.. radiating to lower rite back and currently as of this moment under neath the rite shoulder blade a couple ribs down..
Avatar f tn Hi, the white spots in stools could be due to gastroenteritis, malabsorption syndromes, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and parasitic infections. It could also be due to fungal infections or indigestion. Due to improper digestion, white specks may appear in stools. Some people have severe lactose intolerance. They are not able to digest any dairy product that includes milk, cheese, butter etc. These products may appear as white specs in the stool.
Avatar f tn t heard any feedback about that yet but I know of 2 dogs so far that were suffering with terrible bouts of gastroenteritis and colitis and they have been using this product and the diarrhea has stopped. They continue to use all their other IBD meds for the time being in addition to this powder. Just passing the info along. I have an IBD dog myself and plan to try it when the next flare up occurs.
Avatar n tn Blood and mucus with diarrhea can be due to gastroenteritis or stomach flu, IBS, ulcerative colitis or due to malabsorption syndrome. Parasitic infections like amoebiasis and giardiasis too could be a cause. The best thing would be to consult a general practitioner or PCP and try and assess what is the cause of your problem. Take care!
Avatar n tn They told me to stop taking the antibiotics because they suspected viral gastroenteritis, and told me to have actimel and probiotics. A few days later I was no longer vomiting, but diarrhea continued for another 2 weeks and I developed a blinding pain in my left side around my rib cage, I assume torn and pulled muscles from vomiting so much. I returned to work on September 9th. I wasn't 100% and I was very exhausted still.
Avatar f tn r n they did blood work n a ultrasound which came back normal. I was think gallbladder stones idk.. So doctor diagnose me with gastroenteritis prescribe me pain killers. N next morning with the dull pain that comes n goes. Ouch! Is it normal???? Im scared im praying to god to please let it not be nothing else..
Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
1806721 tn?1554333407 Fevers typically are a sign of an infection. That could be unrelated to the diarrhea or it could all be the same. Viral gastroenteritis can cause diarrhea and fever. Ulcerative colitis often has a fever associated with it at the time of onset. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4967693/ This article talks about ulcerative colitis presenting initially including a fever of unknown origin which is said to happen in about 40% of those diagnosed. Let us know how you are doing.

Avatar f tn If not, then it could be the opposite, too much bad bacteria that needs an antibiotic to eliminate it. (gastroenteritis, for example). It could be something like ulcerative colitis. It could be something like irritable bowel syndrome (which can be constipation, diarrhea or a combination of both). Lots of possibilities so important to see your doctor for discussion. Let us know if it is possible to see a doctor soon.
Avatar f tn Here is a list of side effects from the medication your doctor prescribed. Gastrointestinal side effects have included diarrhea (4.7% to 5.1%), abdominal pain (3.5% to 4%), nausea (2.8% to 3.3%), vomiting (1.4% to 2.2%), and flatulence (1.4% to 2.6%).
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Usually ultrasounds and CT scans will help detect any abnormalities in the structure of the gall bladder. To study the functioning tests like HIDA scan need to be done. Gall bladder dysfunction can cause intolerance to fatty food. But you seem to neither have structural or functional problems with the gall bladder.
Avatar f tn Let me preface this by giving some facts: I am a 35 year old male. I have no history of GI problems. Two years ago, I passed a minor kidney stone. I am a hypochondriac, and tend to obsess over cancer. Nonetheless, back in December, I had a weeklong GI-type of infection. It actually started with a four day person of constipation. Then, I had diarrhea for a week, as well as two days of the "stomach bug," or gastroenteritis.
Avatar f tn I'm 31years old.. I was told 2 weeks ago it was gastroenteritis with no testing or anything. But I felt like that was an easy answer for the doctor at the time. I've made myself anxious over it. At first the tummy discomfort made me take a few pregnancy tests (even though I had no other symptom and my periods were/are normal) all were negative. At the moment I'm struggling with food. Instantly feeling full/sick from the slightest bit of food. Weighed 14.
Avatar f tn On day 7 of a severe case of gastroenteritis. Everything seems to have calmed down, but once I try and eat anything stomach cramps start, which are unbearable. Sometimes followed by diarrhoea. Is this normal after a severe case of gastroenteritis or do I need to see my G.P again?
Avatar f tn Ive spent the last week in hospital as i couldnt stop throwing up and got too dehydrated, they put it down to gastroenteritis and IBS etc but they have referred me back to the hospital as an outpatient as ive been in there for sickness and diarrhea so many times before. I have to go back to work tomorrow now and really not looking forward to it... Please let me know how you got on and if there is anything that has worked for you or helping you.
Avatar f tn I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you? I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.
