Common Questions and Answers about Enbrel injection

enbrel

Avatar f tn Hi - has anyone who has ever been on Enbrel noticed a rust-colored staining on the hands? I'm not sure if it is directly related to enbrel, but I thought I would ask. My daughter was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis several months ago, and has tried Remicade unsuccessfully. Now, she has had 2 injections of Enbrel, and just today has noticed the staining on her hands. I don't know what to think, so I'd appreciate hearing from any of you.
Avatar f tn Just started taking Enbrel self injection, haven't had RA meds since August. Feeling lighted a bit and very anxious. Is this normal and will it fade as time goes on?
Avatar f tn Enbrel was introduced in 1998 and by the time my insurance agreed to pay for it it was Spring 1999 when I took my first injection. I started Enbrel along with an injectible dose of.09 Mtx weekly. For me Enbrel was a light-switch medication and within 2 weeks I was a normal functioning adult again with no pain at all. My only real complaint is that my hair has become substantially thinner and I am considering stopping the Mtx to see if there is an improvement.
Avatar f tn Hi, recently my mother was switched to enbrel, now she can get the medication at home. I will be injecting the medication weekly. I read on the instructions that you are supposed to aspirate and then supply the medication, this is to ensure that a vein or artery has not been hit. We are going to be using pre-filled syringes. Now, I am a bit worried because what if when aspirating I get blood in the syringe? Do I have to discard the medicine?
Avatar m tn Sunday is my injection day too! Thanks for the kind words, Enbrel was my last hope. Dr's are interesting to say the least, I had only been on the Enbrel 4 weeks when he said he wanted to take me off of it and try Remicade or Humira. I work in the medical field and researched the heck out of the Enbrel before I started taking it, risk outweighing the benefits etc, it also said it could take up to 3 months to work so I insisted he allow me to give it the full amount of time to work.
Avatar n tn Hello there, I am 24 years old male I was recently diagnosed with Reiter's Syndrome (Reactive Arthritis). I am positive for HLA-B27 antigen. It's been almost one month since the first swelling and before that I had Chlamydia. My symptoms so far are swelling in knees, elbow, ankles, toes, wrist, fingers, and I think in my spine too, and of course, pain and stiffness. I didn't have any other problem from the list of problems that come with Reiter's.
Avatar m tn does anyone know if it is ok to take the redipen injection and humira injections at the same time.
Avatar n tn I am 42 and have been on Enbrel for 8 years now. The Sureclick was no good for me because I can't stand not knowing if it is all in me or not. Also, the two most feared things in the world to me are needles and knives. I waited a full month before building the courage to give myself my first injection and it literally stared working overnight. I have very mild AS and have a fairly large dose of Reactive Arthritis (Reiters' syndrome). Both knees, one toe, neck and both wrists.
370181 tn?1595629445 I have now been through prednisone, methotrexate, Enbrel, Humara(Humira? sp) then back to Enbrel.......then nothing. The Enbrel worked very well, but I have massive anxiety about the biologics. I just don't trust them and and it's very frustrating. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard spot. On one hand they really do make me feel better, pain and ROM vastly improved.
Avatar f tn you should always position injections at least 1 inch from recently used injection sites and avoid injection into tender, bruised, red, or hard areas. When you administer the injection you may pinch the area up when giving the injection (I hope that makes sense) Also you may want to apply a cool compress afterwards. This may help decrease injection site discomfort." That said, if this does not work out for you, I hear that enbrel stings but is not painful.
422104 tn?1209763904 s like RA, just not quite as deforming) and used Enbrel for four years 3X a week plus one injection of metho. For me it was a miracle drug! I felt like a spring chicken again! I could go up and down stairs, I could squat, I could get in and out of chairs or off the toilet without help.............I felt normal for the first time in years. I stopped taking it last August, almost a year ago, and it's been a nightmare.
5625068 tn?1371156181 PS - if the sting (or injection site rash) of Enbrel is what's causing your Mom to want to switch, definitely have her ask to be switched to the self-mixed form. There are a few steps to mixing it, but like I said before, once she gets the hang of it, she'll be done in under 5 minutes.
Avatar f tn I am having the exact issue you describe, except I'm on Enbrel. Just started seeing an ENT specialist to try to get to the bottom of it. The Enbrel works for my RA when I can stay on it, but then I get sinus infection and have to go back off... it's a constant cycle. Constant headache behind my eyes and sinus congestion. I take Allegra D for sinus and Bultalbital (prescribed) for the headaches, but it barely takes the edge off. Been dealing with this for years...
Avatar f tn I have been in so much pain 11 months straight now and it is crazy, lower back and down the right leg and ankle I can only stand or do things for 15 minutes or less, also have swelling feeling in neck and throat area to that bother me everyday, been through thyroid surgery and it was not the thyroid causing the neck problem. Also since I done the enbrel injection I now have like a sore throat, is that normal?
Avatar f tn Tried everything out there, coal tar creams, Steroid creams, uv lights, psoralens, vitamin b6 injection...what have you. Then I tried Enbrel which gave me hope, because almost half of my body was cleared and after 2 years, I couldn't go beyond any further than a few stubborn patches. Finally I moved to Humira and Oh my my I have a new lease on social interaction. I can now wear my short sleeves in summer.
Avatar n tn weird, never thought that enbrel would be a cause of hpv. I have developed hpv before starting on enbrel. what connection is there between the two?
422104 tn?1209763904 Doctor, I would like information related to Enbrel and MS. I used Enbrel for less than one year. I now have demylination of the cervical spinal cord, both optic nerves, plaques in my brain, numbness in leg and balance problems. I am now fifty eight. Symtoms started at age fifty six with numbness in leg and balance problems. I have been told it looks "MSish." Questions: now that the new symptom of, the optic nerves being demlinated, is it MS?
Avatar f tn I have been told to get off Enbrel for needed gallbladder surgery. My problem is that when I get off Enbrel, every joint in my body swells, turns red, hurts unbearably and locks up. I become completely bedridden and cannot get dressed or go to the bathroom without help. My blood tests show that, even with the Enbrel, my c reactives and other immune response numbers are very high. They tell me that they will give me prednisone to help with the reaction.
1544019 tn?1318504526 I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis since I was 19 years old. I'm now 32 and pregnant. I've been giving myself shots of Enbrel to control it since 2001. When we started doing IVF treatments to get pregnant, I went off of the Enbrel. For the first two trimesters, my RA seemed to go into remission and I didn't need any treatments - which was a MIRACLE! Now I'm starting my third trimester (I'm 27 weeks) and I am starting to have ALL SORTS of complications with my joints.
Avatar m tn you should ask if Enbrel is covered. how old is your son? i've had it since i was 7, i am 37 now and i can tell you that my worst of times was being a child and teen. child because children can be so mean and as a teen because it was humiliating. as an adult i have learned to love myself for who i am but it tool many many years. there's lots of advances on medicine. if you are close or in San Francisco, try Dr. John Koo he specialized only in psoriasis and eczema.
463897 tn?1468013750 m in menopause!); my two main RA drugs are methotrexate and Enbrel, both by sub-q injection. Also Mobic (meloxicam), an NSAID. I also take meds for GERD, hypertension, glaucoma. Um, I think that's it...must consult my list. I have a husband, two kids, two dogs. I work from home as a writer, writing technical documentation, marketing copy, web content, and fiction. At this point in my life, there isn't any part of me that hasn't been poked, prodded, and analyzed to death.

Avatar f tn ) I took it orally for a long time but now take it by a simple, sub-cutaneous injection. A couple years ago I added the biologic, Enbrel. The combo has worked pretty well for me. I also take the NSAID, Mobic (generic, meloxicam).
