enbrel and liver problems

Doctor, I would like information related to Enbrel and MS. I used Enbrel for less than one year. I now have demylination of the cervical spinal cord, both optic nerves, plaques in my brain, numbness in leg and balance problems. I am now fifty eight. Symtoms started at age fifty six with numbness in leg and balance problems. I have been told it looks "MSish." Questions: now that the new symptom of, the optic nerves being demlinated, is it MS?

Several ground glass opacities in my right lung showed up on a CT scan in July 2011. Enbrel was discontinued and coincidentally I took a regime of prednisone for an allergy problem - 60 mg for one week, then with a weekly taper. A repeat CT scan was performed in December 2011 and one ground glass opacity remained (15 mm), with a small focus of sold component within the ground glass density. A percutaneous biopsy was performed to rule out bronchogenic carcinoma.

m convinced that there is a correlation between these things and the Enbrel. Have any other Enbrel users been diagnosed with any of these inflammatory diseases? My gut feeling is that the Enbrel truly is the cause, but it has worked so well on my joints, I'm hesitant to try anything else. My Rheumatologist is going to argue with me about my hypothesis, but I know my body. Can anyone give some insight?

I'm in the same vote. On enbrel and have developed hpv. Very tiny bumps if even noticeable at all, but its been spreading. Aldara only made my psoriasis and psa flare up. I guess the next thing is to stop enbrel till my hpv clears up? I am 29, male, non smoker. Enbrel is the only med I take.

I'M A MALE 59 YEARS OLD BUT WITH A VERY ACTIVE LIFE STYLE. I;VE HAD RA FOR 25 YEARS, STARTING TAKING METHOTREXATE ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO WITH PREDIZONE FROM TIME TO TIME. AROUND THREE YEARS AGO I WAS HAVING FLARE UPS AND MY DOCTOR ALSO ME ON ENBREL, WORKED VERY GOOD FOR THE RA BUT MY NOW MY THROAT IS ALWAYS SORE AND CONGESTED WITH PHELM. THIS YEAR I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS DOCTORS ENT, GENERAL ALERGIST AND EVEN HAD SINUS SURGERY FOR 30 GRAND, NOTHING FIXED THE THROAT PROBLEMS.

Just noticed you tried Remicade with (another biologic) but had a bad reaction. Don't know the nature of your reaction but Remicade, I believe is given IV, while Enbrel and Humira I think are Sub q. Given the mix you're on, I"m sure your doctors are aware of Enbrel but curious why they didn't put you on it.

I was in between jobs and had no insurance and had to stop the Enbrel for 3 weeks, within 2 weeks the pain and stiffness was back worse than ever. The price of Enbrel is $1500.00 monthly so it doesn't surprise me that the insurance company won't give you the 2 a week you need. Talk to your doc about the other 2 drugs and see if they will better help control your pain and stiffness. Keep me posted!

one year of Enbrel injections. Although the Enbrel may have lessened the pain and progression. other side effects and basically an unwell feeling. dizziness. sinusitis. Pain in eyes. If this is as good as it gets. there must be something better. anyone else been here and found something better?

ll be getting married this October and am curious to know if any woman out there have gotten pregnant and given birth while on Enbrel.

I've been on Enbrel for almost 9 years. I've recently been developing tremors in my hands, cheeks (when I smile), and tongue. Talked to my rheumy. He doesn't think it's the Enbrel, but I am growing more concerned. They're not bad, but they do seem to be progressing.

Just like at the Dead Sea spa in Israel I called and asked what there treatment was and then just did it myself at home. Sun, mud, sea salt bath and message. Also, I would think about what foods your eating. Your okay. I healed it- it's your nervous system. Don't be angry, or upset --relaxation.

m thinking (and feeling) that one shot would be okay. In fact, I would rather give myself an Enbrel shot than take prednisone (which is normally what they give pregnant women with RA if they need medication. But I LOATHE prednisone and it's side effects. However - they say it's "safe.") Enbrel has always been good to me and I think it would be okay to take right now.

I no longer have to worry about dying from liver disease and thats a peaceful feeling, as you well know. Those 2 years were so stressful and I no longer have to deal with that. No more biopsies, no more tx, no more worrying, no more constantly researching Hep C, etc. Its a huge relief. With all that being said these sides are awful and almost got the best of me. I had to let it go and accept them as they come and deal with them accordingly.

So just an update about this. Just when we finally got cleared for me to take the Enbrel while pregnant, we find out it's not going to be into the pharmacy until Friday AND it's going to cost $900!!! BUT it turns out it will actually probably be safer for me TO take the Enbrel. I have to control my arthritis because if I don't control it, (according to the lady at the pregnancy risk hotline we talked to today) Rheumatoid ARthritis puts me at risk for still birth and preterm labor.

I have also been through the ringer with test for a yr and 4 months now, I finally found a Doctor that tells me ankylosing spondylitas, I just started Enbrel Friday and hope it works.

Thanks smittygirl. I was on the fence with this decision but leaning in the same direction as your perspective. Sunday, today, is my injection day. I've had the p.i. for a week, and it seems to be clearing up despite the Enbrel. So like you, I agree; I'd rather itch a little, then have the chest-wall pain (my main symtom). BTW... good luck with AS. Prior to joining this forum, I read some of the past posts, and yours came forward as a real success story.

Wow did my home work on Enbrel and found out on my own about Enbrel, as you suggested....copied this below from a long list of concerns.... But I believe we all react differently to meds...but as a newbie this sounds to risky for me and I will stick with the old and true for now. I am so glad you have had a positive experience with this. Apparently from what I read there are a myriad of lawyers waiting in the wings for someone to sue....as they are want to do!!!

Right sided numbness and weakness after the 3nd dose of enbrel. Unchanged in 9 weeks?

I am trying to get her to have her lithium levels checked but she thinks she is fine (part of the disease), she is not sleeping well and not resting, physically pushing herself which makes swelling and pain from RA worse (had to stop Enbrel, Arava and Methotrexate to begin chemo). Still using patch and morphine tabs for pain, ambien for sleep and there are more meds.

I have had two shots of Humira, I constantly have sinus issues, pain pressure, teeth hurt and hedaches. I got them on enbrel and after 9 years it quit working, so tired remicade but after 4 infusions I had such a bad insus probelm I quit it also raised my blood pressrue a lot. I don't seem to be able to handle hard core antibidoics so I can take zpack, and it helps, but I always seem to be back on it alteast every two months.

Hi there, when I was first dx with AS 4 years ago I was put on MTX and Folic Acid, was told you cannot take MTX w/o the folic. Long story short I had to stop the MTX as it made me severely depressed to the point I was having suicidal thoughts. My doc at the time acted like I was crazy but 2 rheumy's one from the Mayo Clinic said it can be a side effect for some people. After I stopped it I was back to my old self, and just an fyi while I was on it, it did nothing to help me.

My husband has ankylosingspondilitis and takes enbrel injections and has considered taking methotrexate before. Best of luck. Could be a real blessing from God :) and a healthy baby!

s comforting to hear that other took enbrel and started feeling better instead of getting other problems. Yes, txsilver, I realized that I'm taking one NSAID and one DMARD, and also a third drug to protect my stomach. I don't think those are working. Smittygirl, thank you. I've read your responses to other posts and they were helpful too. Did either of you suffer from any serious infection while taking the enbrel? If so, how bad was it? Did you have to stop enbrel for a while?
