1453990 tn?1329231426 hi again, i am certainly no expert in the field, but from reading the posts on the lyme board here on medhelp, i have learned that the ELISA test is notoriously inaccurate. if that remains a concern for you, in order to get a better idea of whether lyme is an issue for you, it is best to get more accurate testing through Igenex labs in california. i hope you get some answers and relief very soon.
Avatar f tn ELISA is one of the Lyme's tests. There are Titers, Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), Western Blot and B. burgdorferi sensu stricto DNA Component analysis. Titers are negative in early disease and positive in late disease. DNA is poitve in early disease and may be negative in late disease. You need to see a Lyme's specialist if there is any concern. Lyme's, like MS is diagnosed by exclusion, not lab tests.
611964 tn?1223767720 Has anyone heard of LabCor in Dublin Ohio for the Western Blot test and are they good??
Avatar f tn Hi, has anyone tried Cat's Claw (Samento) for Lyme disease? I have not been diagnosed yet, but I have been hospitalized 5 times in the past 9 months and the doctors have done everything from an MS workup to testing me for autoimmune diseases, etc, with no confirmed diagnosis. I am starting to believe I have Lyme Disease and I went ahead and had blood drawn today for a Western Blot and ELISA tests, but from everything I've heard, it's not reliable.
Avatar f tn Thats a difficult question. Elisa lyme test a is common test doctors use to diagnose Lyme. It test for the antibodies in your blood. As well as the Western blot test which is usually used after Elisa to confirm. Western blot is more accurate, but the accuracy rate among these types of test is about 40-60% depending on when you contracted the disease. The best way to rule out Lyme's is to see a LLMD doctor who specializes in Lyme and can run a specialized panel.
428506 tn?1296557399 Mornin'! Hope all had a great wkend! Like a good daugher, I called my father yesterday for a long catch up. We talked about if my "stuff" could be Lyme's. While I was tested for it in Feb, I've heard lots about false negatives and different tests, etc. I've looked some online but figure lots of ya'll probably know a lot about mimics, and I was wondering if anyone knows if Lyme's can affect your eyes?
Avatar n tn A good possibility of Lyme's Disease which is one of the diseases that can be transmitted in Thailand. Treatment of Lyme disease usually consists of a minimum one month course of antibiotics, preferably doxycycline in the early stages. With the chronic late stage form of the disease, it may be necessary to continue antibiotic treatment for months or years. Lyme's Disease is very misdiagnosed due to false negatives. Avatar f tn 15 years ago, I was in tall grass and got a bug bite which was the classic bull's eye bite. At the time, I was in my early 20's and just thought it was an interesting and large bug bite since not much was publicized about Lyme's Disease back then. Now, in searching for a reason for some symptoms I have, I've found that Lyme's Disease keeps popping up. Could I have had Lyme's Disease for all of these years and not have known it?
519035 tn?1348275773 Hi. I have recently been reading about adrenal fatigue and Addison's disease because I am still having weird symptoms even though my doc says my thyroid is under control. Have you been tested for arthritis or Lyme's Disease? Lyme's Disease can cause joint pain. The salt situation does sound like an Addison's symptom. I will say though, if you have thyroid issues, your symptoms could be from that as well. I would have them rule out the two I mentioned.
Avatar m tn s little tricks is to suppress the immune system, so that when the usual tests are given for Lyme, the test often comes back negative *because the test looks for your immune system's reaction to a Lyme infection*. It's like the police showing up at your house when the burglar alarm goes off, and the burglar meets them at the door and says 'No problem here, officers! Goodbye!' and slams the door. In other words, the test is looking for evidence that the infection hides.
410821 tn?1202914556 What my neuro wrote for was a western blot reflex test which means that they do a screening test first (ELISA, EIA, etc.--which are pretty much worthless) and if it comes back negative, they NEVER do the western blot-which is much more accurate. PLEASE make sure that if you were tested that it was actually a WESTERN BLOT and like Rebeccah said, find out if any bands were positive. For anyone interested, here is an explanation about different testing for lyme: http://www.drcharlescrist.
Avatar n tn Is their Md's in South Africa who specialise in tick bites and specially in Lyme's disease?
Avatar m tn I'm sorry your wife has had such terrible problems and will keep a good thought for her that the cancer is gone is will stay away; l'm sure you have a good oncologist who will keep her on his/her radar. To the question about Lyme and testing. You asked: " Her main doctor is trying to figure out where to refer her to at MAYO. What are some questions to ask when we get there. How can it be confirmed that she doesn't have lyme?
Avatar m tn I ask them if he could have Lyme disease because he had been hunting. Finally they did a blood test they said was for Lyme disease but we have heard nothing in three days. ..
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear about your friend. Has she been tested for Lyme's Disease? If not please have her ask her doctor to test her for it. There are several lyme's test that they can be done some more advanced then the others so have her ask to have all the tests run. My cousin has Lyme's and some of what you are describing with your friend is what he experienced. I don't know if there is a cure for Lyme's but there are treatments.
5792451 tn?1390934690 For some reason, I actually reread your post and now it sunk in. To answer your question, sllowe answered it correct. A positive lyme test has nothing to do with MS. This is a dangerous thing when you're researching the internet. You dont always get the correct answers or possibly misinterpret them. However, you can have false positive Lyme's test (as well as false negative -- however false negatives are not as common as false positives). Not all Lyme's tests are reliable.
Avatar n tn Dry eyes are extremely common and relatively speaking lyme's disease is rare. It would be a huge waste of money and time to test everyone with dry eyes for Lyme's disease IF THEY HAD NO OTHER SYMPTOMS OF LYME'S DISEASE.
Avatar n tn Hi I am selva, I am also having the same symptoms as u have, i also have PN fro last 2 months and even sore throat.
Avatar m tn Could someone please advise.
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar n tn Various autoimmune issues come to mind: Epstein Barré Virus, Lyme's Disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. There are others, of course you may wish to investigate. FYI: I know two people who have Lymes who were never bitten by ticks, so it can come about without ever getting bit by ticks. So, I wouldn't be quick to dismiss Lyme's Disease.
1094370 tn?1317134825 One of the experts on Lyme's disease is the doctor who identified it in Connecticut. His Name is Dr. Allen Steere. He is an opponent of the view that Lyme's is a chronic disease process. There are several documented cases for the disease fully resolving and people being reinfected with Borrelia burgdorferi. I'm pretty familiar with Dr. Steere and Lyme's Disease since I was one of the first group of kids diagnosed with Lyme's in 1975/76.
