Avatar f tn s reaction to the Lyme bacteria, the PCR test looks for DNA of the Lyme bacteria in your blood -- that is, a direct test, rather than an indirect test like W.blot/ELISA. Docs who are not particularly up to date on Lyme do not 'believe' in the PCR test but do believe that W.blot/ELISA is fully accurate. If you need help finding a Lyme specialist who understands all this, let us know.
Avatar m tn (If this is a duplicate message from me, just ignore ... I thought I had responded.) I'm not medically trained, but I had Lyme several years ago, and your symptoms are quite similar to what mine were ... but Lyme is tricky, so not everyone has the same list of indicators.
Avatar m tn I was tested for lyme disease over a year ago by my family physician. Test results came back negative. I was reading an article in a magazine concerning symptoms of lyme disease and everything listed as symptoms I seem to have. I am trying to find a specialist in my area who is knowledgable in this area. Should I have another blood test done to see if things have changed?
Avatar m tn Borreliosis can be extremely threatening if it is not diagnosed and treated in early stages. Kidneys are not typically involved in the disease. However, in infected dogs, Lyme nephritis is present in 5–10% of cases. It is associated with rapidly progressing renal failure. Histopathological examination shows mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis with diffuse tubular necrosis, (Dambach et al. (1997)).
Avatar n tn The IDSA guidelines use a 2-tier blood testing scheme for detecting Lyme. In the 1st step, the ELISA test is used. This is like a screening test. If (and only if) the ELISA is positive, the 2nd step is to do a Western blot test, which looks for certain antibodies in the blood that are (mostly) specific to Lyme disease. There are criteria for how many "bands" (each band is like a different antibody) must appear on the Western blot to fit the CDC definition of positive.
Avatar f tn the ELISA and the Western blot. Doctors commonly order an ELISA first to screen for the disease and then confirm the disease with a Western blot. However, current ELISA tests are not sensitive enough for screening and may miss over half the true cases. Because of this, the best antibody test to use for diagnosis is the Western blot. ... "Western Blot Test "The read-out from the Western blot looks like a bar code.
1498017 tn?1289003772 I had a rash with a bullseye a few years ago and have been going downhill ever since. All my symptoms match Lyme Disease but my test was negative. After some testing my doc thinks I have myasthenia gravis, but I have more symptoms that do not go with that disease. I did not go to the doc when I noticed the bite because it didn't hurt. I just thought it was a spider bite.
1640442 tn?1302449164 my western blot test and two other test came back positive however the pcr test for lyme came back neg the pcr test give a faulse neg?
Avatar f tn Thats a difficult question. Elisa lyme test a is common test doctors use to diagnose Lyme. It test for the antibodies in your blood. As well as the Western blot test which is usually used after Elisa to confirm. Western blot is more accurate, but the accuracy rate among these types of test is about 40-60% depending on when you contracted the disease. The best way to rule out Lyme's is to see a LLMD doctor who specializes in Lyme and can run a specialized panel.
Avatar n tn The dr gave me 14 days of doxy and will refill it if the test is positive. Our neighbor has lyme, as well as several dogs in the neighborhood. Thanks in advance for any info.
Avatar n tn HAD A TICK BITE IN DEC, HAD A LYMES TEST 1 MONTH LATER.CAME BACK NEGATIVE LEFT EYE TWITCHES.STILL .IS THERE ANY CONNECTION.
394017 tn?1255014532 We were not testing for Lyme disease at the vet school when I left in 1980. Its been a learning curve to try to put together all of the pieces of information I am gaining from reading the posts because of the use of so many abbreviations. I saw some reference to what I think was a fluorescent antibody technique. That was used in the lab next to mine, to test for rabies. I used a dark field microscope for the micro-titer agglutination test that I did for Leptospirosis.
5871250 tn?1377708161 I never had an ELISA but from what I understand, in a mainstream lab as opposed to IgeneX which the Lyme Docs use here in the US, ELISA are not very sensitive but if you are positive for the ELISA ( in my non medical opinion), you have Lyme disease. So they must be double checking in their own way.
280418 tn?1306325910 region, but ask ANY veterenarian how many cases of Lyme in dogs have they had in any state and they will answer that it has happened. Ticks do not know what state lines are! These dogs weren't shipped into the state either, so there is your answer. I have one lesion on the corpus callosum, non-enhancing, been there for about 6yrs, at least. Had my last MRI Tuesday w/ and w/o contrast to see if anything new and fun pops up. Given all that info.
Avatar n tn What is/are the urine test(s) definitive for the diagnosis of untreated Lyme Disease?
Avatar m tn Hi I am interested in your essential oil therapy that you did for the Lyme Disease. My sister is suffering with all the symptoms for all three stages and barely able to do anything anymore. We are having a difficult time finding MDs or DO's that treat Lyme so insurance will help pay for treatment.
1718647 tn?1437510739 Has anyone had a test negative with lab corb but had lyme disease.
255738 tn?1230233362 I asked my PCP to test me for Lyme Disease. He has ordered an Elisa test for lyme disease? Is this test better for diagnosing Lyme Disease than the Immunoblot aka Western Blot? Thanks for any information.
Avatar n tn You want to know about Lyme disease then I suggest you go to a forum that discusses it.
Avatar m tn It is the CDC ELISA test which is used for surveillance of emerging Lyme disease in the United States, yet the test was correct only about two out every three tests. Too often, a single negative ELISA test can prevent a sick patient from getting treatment, even despite having serious symptoms! " https://sites.google.
Avatar f tn Hi Goldie23 You are asking good questions -- I'm guessing FMS means fibromyalgia? MPS and DDD I don't know. Lyme patients are sometimes told they have fibromyalgia, a disease syndrome with no known cause or cure. We do know however that Lyme is caused by a specific bacterium and is treatable.
Avatar m tn you can have Lyme, but the test can show negative, since the ELISA/Wblot test can be fooled into not detecting the immune reaction. By contrast, the newer and differently structured IGeneX test doesn't play hide-and-seek like ELISA/Wblot does: instead, IGeneX looks for Lyme genetic material (DNA) in your blood, which is a direct test and no fooling around playing hide-and-seek.
Avatar f tn In the ILADS conference (2011 I think) they presented their test methods to some labs in the US which found that European strains of Lyme are remarkably common in America, to teh extent they shoujld be called "various strains" of lyme as they cannot be considered specifically European variants.
