Reliability of the elisa test for lyme

Common Questions and Answers about Reliability of the elisa test for lyme

elisa-test

Avatar f tn Five of the ten bands considered in the IgG portion of the test are not Lyme specific. It is possible to have the right combination of other antibodies to other bugs to make those five bands positive. But if any of the five Lyme specific bands are positive, then there's really no question. Unfortunately, lab results don't tell you which bands matter more than others, so even most doctors don't know.
Avatar m tn is it elisa, combo(p24 antigen), pcr DNA ,pcr RNA, western blot..............please tell me the full name of the test which i will be telling the pathologist.........cost is not the concern....
Avatar n tn Thank you, Teak, but how do you know that? According to what I read on the Internet, ELFA method is similar to ELISA screening. But do all ELISA tests search for antibodies and antigens?
Avatar m tn method of testing is as on blood report - ELISA Tri-Dot test. Now i would like to know the further proceedings and the reliability of the above mentioned test. waiting for your reply.........
Avatar f tn The doc should know what to order, and if they don't, then they may not understand the results either. :( There is much misunderstanding among docs about which tests to use and which ones to believe. here is some of the explanation from California Lyme Disease Assn (aka CALDA) on this point: ---------------------------------------------------- Antibody tests The most common tests measure the patient’s antibody response to infection.
255738 tn?1230233362 I asked my PCP to test me for Lyme Disease. He has ordered an Elisa test for lyme disease? Is this test better for diagnosing Lyme Disease than the Immunoblot aka Western Blot? Thanks for any information.
Avatar n tn The vast majority of people will still test positive for hsv2 within the 4 month time frame, but since there is a small possibility of delayed seroconversion, you might want to test again at 6 months. Again, though, this doesn't sound like herpes to me.
Avatar n tn You want to know about Lyme disease then I suggest you go to a forum that discusses it.
Avatar m tn You do not have HIV and do not need further testing. At six weeks the ELISA test would detect over 95% of infections contracted six weeks earlier. The added information from the DNA and antigen tests add further to the evidence that you don't have HIV and, when considered in the context of your low risk to start with (single exposure), you have nothing to worry about. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Hi Goldie23 You are asking good questions -- I'm guessing FMS means fibromyalgia? MPS and DDD I don't know. Lyme patients are sometimes told they have fibromyalgia, a disease syndrome with no known cause or cure. We do know however that Lyme is caused by a specific bacterium and is treatable.
Avatar n tn Are this home test really reliable or does she need to go to the laboratory for duo elisa confirming negative result?
Avatar f tn a test for Lyme disease. The test came back positive, but this doc, who was very nice and highly educated and experienced, told me gently that I 'could not possibly have Lyme' because, she said: 'I have patients with Lyme, and they are all near death.
Avatar m tn My interpretation is #1 is the standard screening test (ELISA). If the test is positive then the western blot is done automatically. This is the standard testing for lyme that most non-lyme specialists order. I just wonder how much it costs if the test is negative and no further testing is done. It should be a lot less. The ELISA is not very reliable and misses a large percentage of lyme cases. #2 is the western blot in itself. I think this is what it means but I'm not sure.
4618178 tn?1359357285 I was wondering about reliability of express ELISA blood test. The results are given in 15-20 minutes after the blood taken. It sounds like way too quick for such a serious test. Please give me your opinions. I would appreciate if anyone who is specialized on this area answered my question. Sorry for my English, I'm not a native speaker.
280418 tn?1306325910 Also, the ELISA is meant as a screening test, with the back up of the WB. I found values all over the map for how often the ELISA gives a false positive. It varied from less than 5% to almost 30%. However, in the face of someone who has had classic neuroLyme symptoms, it has to be taken seriously. I hope your road to diagnosis is coming to a rapid end! Thanks for letting us know!
Avatar n tn I certainly have read about the reliability of ELISA test at 3 month; however, is there anjy data regarding the reliability after 5 weeks? second question, the ELISA test is confirmewd through WB test, only or by subsequent ELISA test with the SAME SAMPLE, that is, for the confirmation is always necesarry a second sample?
Avatar n tn PS -- I should also have added: There is a newer, different test for Lyme, called a polymerase chain reaction [PCR] test that Lyme specialists often use in addition to the Western blot and ELISA tests. The Wblot/ELISA tests rely on your immune system reaction to determine whether you have a positive (+) test or a negative (-) test for Lyme.
Avatar n tn What is/are the urine test(s) definitive for the diagnosis of untreated Lyme Disease?
Avatar m tn Quick question. Is the HIV test (combo or elisa) user friendly? I live In a remote country and doubt that the technicians know how to use it? Or it's just automatic?
Avatar f tn ELISA is one of the earlier tests, but I think it's still used. The standard tests (ELISA and Western blot) used to diagnose Lyme rely entirely on measuring your immune system's reaction to the presence of Lyme in your body ... which would be fine, except that many of the docs in the Lyme field *still* don't know that the Lyme bacteria can and do suppress the action of your immune system.
Avatar f tn This may apply only to ELISA/Western blot tests, which rely on the immune system reaction to Lyme to confirm Lyme, while the IGeneX PCR test may not be affected -- ? I can't now find that post, and ask that if you remember it, please repost it, or if you have information on this topic, please post that as well. One of our current posters here is going to get tested and may be on abx already.
5871250 tn?1377708161 the standard elisa test for lyme is worthless you nee to get tested thru Igenex Lab google it and call them for a test kit its 200 bucks for western blot igm igg that's what u need to do the other tests are a waste of time and not accurate for lyme
