Effexor vs xanax

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor vs xanax

effexor

Avatar f tn My doctor put me all the way up to 150 mg of effexor and it made me worse. I've only tried xanax once recreationally so I don't really know the side effects. But my doctor reduced me to 37.5 mg of effexor and 20 mg of celexa (citalopram) plus 5 mg twice a day of clonazepam. I have found that the clonazepam has helped a lot, although I have been feeling extremely tired. But at least I don't have a constant knot in my stomach or get panic attacks.
12714324 tn?1426848387 My dr is trying me on all sorts of meds for my depression/anxiety. He didn't want me on 40mg of lexapro for the concern of my liver but he prescribes effexor and xanax. Don't he know that I could get liver damage with over the counter med. I have been on effexor for two days now I can't sleep. I'm up at 330am est trying to figure out what is going on. I want to get back on my lexapro because for six years on 40mg I was happy go lucky.
Avatar m tn I have been on Xanax for anxiety for 15 years and diffrent anti depressants for about the same. I found Xanax and Effexor XR work really well with balancing out depression and anxiety. Xanax have extreme withdrawl symptoms though, so you might want to look at taking them or any Benzo VS Trying Buspar or another anti anxiety medication for longterm health purposes first. Recently I stopped taking My Effexor XR for about a week and I fell into a deep, deep, depression.
Avatar f tn Effexor works for anxiety too. I was on it myself for several years. But, it can take weeks for it to start working.
Avatar n tn 25) 3 times a day for about a week and continued taking one every night for a month while taking Effexor Xr. I stopped taking xanax the day I stopped taking Effexor. I gradually stopped taking Effexor by winning off of it but I didn't with xanax. Is that a problem? In other words, shoud I have taken xanax every other day just like I had with Effexor? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I take 325 mg. of effexor daily and some xanax as needed. All for PTSD. My MD oroginally prescribed the effexor, but the psychiatrist doubled it and gave me more xanax.
Avatar n tn i just need to know if there is anything else anyone can recommend to help with the anxiety and it anyone has had this experience how long will these symptoms last befoer i start feeling better on the effexor? will the xanax start working or should i ask for something stronger. it is so hard having to work when i can barely function. i am in a really bad state any any help would be so extremelly appreciate!!
Avatar f tn yes it could be from the xanax and it's not a good idea to take it much. Effexor can help with depression but also made me feel detached and impotenet so I no longer take it and take welbutrin instead. I'm not sure if it's helping but at least I won't have that problem.
Avatar n tn Effexor is one of the more difficult antidepressants to come off of because of the withdrawal symptoms. Maybe you can speak to your doctor about coming off of it more slowly? Zoloft can take 4-6 weeks to take effect, but don't be afraid to use the xanax in the meantime. Xanax is meant for short-term use, so at smaller doses and for shorter periods of time.. there is little risk of addiction. You can also speak to your doctor about using klonopin instead of xanax.
596143 tn?1226648054 I take Effexor and xanax. Should I take the xanax as needed or by the directions 1 tab 3 times a day. My doc said whatever works best for me. What do you do?
Avatar m tn I have taken in the past Zoloft, Paxil, Effexor XR, BuSpar, Ativan, Xanax, Wellbutrin. I hate SSRI and SSNRI's they make you lose yourself and lose emotion. Like a robot. I won't take them, no matter how much a doctor tries to downplay the side effects. i'm 23 years old, and have had drug problems in the past.
Avatar f tn Have you been prescribed Xanax? If you find yourself overstimulated a lot, did this always happen, or only since you've been on Effexor? I ask because Effexor is a very stimulating antidepressant, as it targets adrenaline as well as serotonin.
Avatar n tn Does anyone out there take effexor xr for aniexty and depression? I am on paxil right now but I am thinking of going on effexor xr. Any insight will help.
Avatar m tn i have never taken wellbutrin but my daughter does, i have taken effexor. for me the effexor was terrible, but some people on this site do very well with it. it made me extremly tired, heart palpitations, raised my blood pressure, jaw pain and many other problems. my daughter says the wellbutrin helps her depression but makes her anxiety worse so if you have anxiety you may have to take something for that on top of the wellbutrin. in my opinion, effexor is horrible, i hated it.
Avatar f tn This is my case and it is difficult to understand what I am suffering from most now as the effects of being on effexor are much like a thyroid gone bad. And since I stopped effexor and all antideppresson drugs almost 7 months ago. However now I feel effexor withdrawls are worse. I am aware of this happening and am trying to deal with both problems. Has anyone else felt this same thing and if so how do you deal with it, how do you tell which is which, thyroid or effexor?
Avatar f tn No, there is a "discontinuation syndrome" with Effexor unless you taper off very gradually, and if you have been on Xanax at more than a low dose, and for very long, there is a risk of seizure activity if you stop it abruptly. You need to get in touch with your doctor to obtain refills and/or instructions for discontinuing these meds. Best wishes...
Avatar n tn Hello all. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Any support / insight you an offer would be greatly appreciated. Long story short.. after a nervous breakdown, I've been diagnosed with PTSD, Major Depression, and Panic Disorder. I was on Lexapro for a year or so, and prozac for 2-3 years before that. I've was off of antidepressants for about 6 months now, but continued with .5mg on xanax 3 times a day. On Saturday I collapsed back into a breakdown.
Avatar n tn My Dr. is prescribing the Buspar, in addition to my Lexapro, and Xanax. Cause I told her I can't take the Xanax all day long cause it knocks me out, and right after I come off Xanax I go right back into a constant panic attack. We are going to try to give the Lexapro a little longer to build up (it's only been 15 days) and if it doesn't work or gets worse by next week, we're going to talk about weaning over to Effexor. I HATE ANXIETY!!!!! Anyone taking Buspar.
Avatar f tn the klonopin builds up n u cantake that as a anxiety med to prevent the pancik attacks n the xanax as absolutely needed. n if u were on xanax for a long period of time and on a high dose make sure ur dr knows u changed so he can give u the right dose of klonopin so u dont experience any withdrawl.
Avatar m tn I take Celexa (citalopram) and I have taken Effexor XR in the past. The Effexor was best for my GAD, but I still needed Klonopin (.5 mg 2x a day) to keep the panick attacks away. BTW I quit the Effexor xr because I switched to insurance that only covers generics. I had no problem tapering off it unlike some horror stories I've heard from others. I now take the Celexa and klonopin and seem to be fine for now.
Avatar f tn If you are taking both Effexor and Xanax, alcohol, especially when consumed in a 9 day binge style, is the same as playing Russian Roulette. When you say you've heard that it can take several weeks to return to normal, are you referring to the mixing of high potency psychotropic meds and drinking? I would think, as did rls, that if it's been 6 weeks since you've had a drink, you should not be feeling this way. How long have you been on the Effexor? Bottom line?
Avatar f tn The cause of no sleep is my anxiety so one of my doctors put me on Effexor to start getting my anxiety in check but in the meen time gave me .25 mg of Xanax to sleep until the Effexor started working. It never did... they just kept upping my dose of Xanax and before I knew it I was and still am having to take 4-5mg every night to get any sleep at all.
Avatar n tn Not true that people find Effexor more effective. They all affect each individual differently. Effexor tends to have far more side effects than Zoloft, and is known to be much more difficult to quit. On the other hand, are you sure Zoloft is any safer during pregnancy? Whatever the case, you'll have to taper very carefully off Effexor before you start Zoloft so you can tell which is a side effect of Zoloft and which is a withdrawal effect of Effexor.
Avatar n tn If you do decide to temporaraly utilize Xanax to help with withdrawls then it is VERY important that you stop the Xanax after the Effexor withdrawl is passed. Usually about 2 or 3 months. Xanax is a very safe drug, but not one that you want to be taking over the long term. Reason being is that most people tend to build up resistance to Benzos like Xanax relitivly fast. Thus if you take it too long then more and more is required with each passing month just to get the same effect.
Avatar m tn I mentioned about switching from Effexor Xr 225mg (which on my own I lowered to 150mg) He said that Effexor XR affects two different areas of the body whereas Zoloft only affects one area. Now he mentioned NOTHING about keep taking the Effexor Xr in lower does while I make hte switch to Zoloft. Am I supposed to just switch right over to Zoloft and discontinue the Effexor Xr??
Avatar n tn s safe to take Effexor and alprazolam, which is generic for Xanax, yes, you can take the two together. The Effexor should help with your anxiety though so you may want to talk to your Dr about stopping the Xanax. Depending on how you've been on it you may need to taper.
Avatar m tn there are a lot of people who go through this. it could be a variety of different things, and only time can tell for sure. first, it could be w/d from the xanax. second is that it could be side-effects of your new medication...third is that it could be a combo of the 2....and it could even be from discontinuation of your lexapro, though this wouldn't be likely. why exactly did your doctor change you from lexapro to effexor? was it no longer working?
