effexor

12714324 tn?1426851987 He didn't want me on 40mg of lexapro for the concern of my liver but he prescribes effexor and xanax. Don't he know that I could get liver damage with over the counter med. I have been on effexor for two days now I can't sleep. I'm up at 330am est trying to figure out what is going on. I want to get back on my lexapro because for six years on 40mg I was happy go lucky.
Avatar f tn My doctor put me all the way up to 150 mg of effexor and it made me worse. I've only tried xanax once recreationally so I don't really know the side effects. But my doctor reduced me to 37.5 mg of effexor and 20 mg of celexa (citalopram) plus 5 mg twice a day of clonazepam. I have found that the clonazepam has helped a lot, although I have been feeling extremely tired. But at least I don't have a constant knot in my stomach or get panic attacks.
1796524 tn?1315590087 They differ in that Klonpin stays in your system much longer then Xanax and Xanax may be faster acting, among other things. It sounds like you may be building a tolerence to your current dose. Discus this with your doctor. If depression is your problem you may find better relief from an antidepressant which will also help with any anxiety you have as well. Discuss this with your doc as well.
Avatar m tn I have taken in the past Zoloft, Paxil, Effexor XR, BuSpar, Ativan, Xanax, Wellbutrin. I hate SSRI and SSNRI's they make you lose yourself and lose emotion. Like a robot. I won't take them, no matter how much a doctor tries to downplay the side effects. i'm 23 years old, and have had drug problems in the past.
Avatar n tn Hi Ryan, Why did you write to Ellen that Klonopin could worsen her depression? I have been on Klonopin for about a month and a half and I have noticed an increase in depression (I am NOT on any anti depressants). Overall I just roll with it and try and stay positive and I started to get acupuncture along with talk therapy. This week I will see my p-doc and I'm sure all of this will come up in my visit. Do you think Klonopin causes weight gain as well?
Avatar n tn I've been taking Effexor for about 2 years and am weaning off the medication right now. Actually I should just say I am stoping the medication cold turkey, since I am just not taking any pills at all each day. Yes, there are side effects. Are the side effects so severe that a person cannot tolerate them? Absolutely not. You need to tough it out, get this drug out of your system, and start exercising 5 times a week, especially cardiovascular exercise.
689327 tn?1240232764 Yes the xanax ruined my life, but not now, I am xanax free. I don't know why the people here delete a web site that is non profit - no advertisements (unlike other forums) and happens to be the best site in the world concerning benzodiazepine withdrawal, people need to know the correct way to w/d off benzo's. I'm sure the "experts" here would agree. And guess what Dr. Ashton at benzo.org.uk doesn't try to sell her diet book!!!
Avatar n tn I took Effexor for 2 years with little relief from anxiety. After reading up on it, I found that it was a dangerous medication that had wicked withdrawal symptoms. I was switched to Cymbalta, but had the same outcome. I found myself EXTREMELY irritable, lashing out for the smallest thing. Today I went to my doctor because I've been having extreme anxiety and anger the past week.
Avatar n tn My husband will be going on antidepessants and I would like comments on Lexapro and Lexapro vs Effexor Xr. All comments are heplful. Thank you!
Avatar n tn Has anyone else experienced weight gain AFTER reducing their Effexor dosage? I stared taking Xanax about a year ago, as well. And I'm diabetic. My sugar levels stay in the mid- 300's( not good). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn 1st episode was treated with Prozac, Xanax and brief therapy. 2nd episode was treated without drugs, but I was in therapy for almost 3 yrs. For this 3rd episode, I went to the ob/gyn first, who put me on small dose of Prozac and sent me to therapy. After going back to him several times (still in therapy), but without improvement, he sent me to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist and I did not get along, but he did put me on Effexor, which helped tremendously.
Avatar f tn There are a lot more factors that go into generics vs. brands (like its pharmacokinetic profile and bioequivalence (BE) and bioavailability (BA).....but it's a tad more complicated than is appropriate for this forum) There has been a VERY long lived debate about the efficacy of generic vs brand name meds. For most people, they seem to be able to use either interchangeably with little or no difference in the effectiveness.
Avatar m tn -) I already take a HIGH dose of Klonopin daily (8 mg), who is not effective anymore and we add 1 mg of Xanax, who work for3 weeks and stop working... so I don't see how my PDoc would be able to add more benzo meds to calm the initial anxiety when I will start the SSRI... For the SSRI, i'm used to all of them... They was like candy for me in the past, no side-effects like increase anxiety but MAJOR weight gain...
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been somewhat in the situation that you are in. My doctor had me on 1 mg. Xanax 4 times a day. After a year or so, I sat down with my doctor, and explained that the xanax was not working as well as it once did. He kept me on the same dose of xanax and added Vistaril. It only took a couple of days before I was back in his office being taken off of the Vistaril. I had severe headaches not to mention that I flipped and totaled my brand new pathfinder.
Avatar n tn Sure it numbs me but also has allowed me to be relatively successful with my personal and professional life. The key word here is relatively. If you use a small amount of Xanax to sleep, you may be doing the same responsible thing. When I take hydrodcodone (also prescribed) 8 times a day when all I need is a dose twice a day, I am usually doing it because I like the high, not because of the pain.
Avatar f tn I know you're fearful after your experience with Xanax but it's worth a try. Ativan tends to be a little less intense, so you could try that. Again, mention it to your doctor. Whatever you do...don't make any changes...stay on your current dose of the Zoloft until you get in to see him. Again, remain open mided. Do NOT go into the doctor's office with a mind full of what you will or won't take. Let the doctor make some recommendations, then have a discussion from there.
Avatar n tn Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for your metabolism to recalibrate after stopping Effexor and/or Lexapro? I've gained significant weight while on these drugs (despite an intense exercise program and careful diet). My nutritionist and MD told me that the drugs likely altered my metabolism, but no one can tell me how long it will take to correct that. Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated.
Avatar m tn I have been on Xanax for anxiety for 15 years and diffrent anti depressants for about the same. I found Xanax and Effexor XR work really well with balancing out depression and anxiety. Xanax have extreme withdrawl symptoms though, so you might want to look at taking them or any Benzo VS Trying Buspar or another anti anxiety medication for longterm health purposes first. Recently I stopped taking My Effexor XR for about a week and I fell into a deep, deep, depression.
Avatar f tn My doctor initially put me on Effexor treating as an anxiety issue and she also said it would help with menopausal symptoms. The side effect of tachycardia was unbearable and was told I should have gone to the emergency room. Since then I have changed doctors and who has given me the option to start Prozac or try armour thyroid (I asked about it). My last TSH was .22 and I had previously been okay with that level so I chose the Prozac.
Avatar n tn The doc also gave me Zoloft and then changed to Effexor a few years back. I stopped Effexor, cold turkey, 2 months ago. Really weird withdrawl about 2 weeks, but i stuck to it. Life hasn't been easy, and i guess i did get depressed, so that is the reason for the pills. But the last few months, i didn't feel that bad for depression. Even been seeing a phsycologist and it helps...a bit.
Avatar f tn Another antidepressant good for anxiety is Effexor. This is an SNRI which is slightly different from Paxil, Lexapro, Prozac, etc. It is both a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor which acts as a dual combatant for anxiety.
746058 tn?1248348265 Im still up in the air about whether or not this is the method I agree with or if I should go with Effexor (which my other doc suggested) or take the Effexor and the Xanax as needed. I was idner the impression Xanax was a "rescue" drug only but he assured me that it can be used daily. I did get the impression that it would be used daily for the immediate future to get me through my days and couple it with talk therapy.
Avatar m tn I'm sure sorry to read this! Don't lose hope!! Xanax is not a great choice for long term anxiety treatment. It's also addictive which is I'm sure a concern you have now that you have taken them for so many years. And they aren't helping you with the anxiety anymore. Talk to your doctor about this even though that is a hard conversation. You say that ssri's are not options . . . but there are snri's and other classes of medications that help with anxiety other than the benzos.
Avatar n tn Now I only take my pain pills and benzos as prescribed and needed, and my Dr alraedy told me he dosent see a point in my life where I wont be taking my Xanax,My anti-depressant(Effexor),my heartburn medicine(Protonix) and the med they put me on to sleep(Mirtazapine) I was on Ambien, read about it and said nope i want something that wont ruin my brain so they gave me something that can be taken daily without worries like that.
225570 tn?1191290673 5mg, baby asprin, nexium 40mg, Feel ok this morning woke up alittle anxious but just a tiny bit...so far klonopin vs xanax.......klonopin makes me feel more tierd, fuzzy headed, and makes me feel like i have a really bad case of ADD.......Im not sure but will all this pass? i think my body is just getting used to it..i remember this feeling when i first took xanax....kinda just want to lay around all day and do nothing....thank god i dont work..Well im a home maker i guess thats a job...
Avatar f tn I do get some constipation from the Tri-cyclic, but I find that easier to combat than the Diarrhea I got from Zoloft and Effexor. About the Xanax your taking for anxiety.... Yes that stuff will make you very sleepy. I really think if you can find an antidepressant that works for you then you will be able to knock that Xanax dosage way down. Nortriptilyne does a pretty good job of controling anxiety too.
