I have 20 years and I have HIV positive person. I drink medicines already 4 months. I use drugs Truvada and Efavirenz Teva. Please tell me how to code your disease treated? Whether you are at injection instead of pills?

I started 300mg of Rifampin on 3/6 before supper. the next day(3/7) I had troubled breathing, felt sick all over, felt I was drowning. I thought it was normal because that day I went out and did little bit of jogging as the climate was good. On 3/7 also I took the medicine felt the same the next day. Also I was working with the adjustment to the thyroid medication, so I thought its normal. On 3/8 did not take Rifampin, the next day also felt shortness of breath.

I am supposed to start taking rifampin once a day and bacterium 2x a day. I'm just wondering how to space it out. The bactrim I will take every 12 hours but wanted to know if I can take the rifampin at any time? Together with bacterium?

I just saw a new LLMD yesterday who has a ton of experience, and wanted to get his take since I'm less than convinced that the doxy is doing it for me. For me, my Babesia symptoms came out after starting rifampin. Rifampin also caused a major herx which is a worsening of the symptoms. I would look up side effects from rifampin and see if shortness of breath is on the list. As for our immune system, a good way to know if it is in good shape or not is by your body temp. I use to run low grade fevers, now 20 years after my tick bite, my body temp is always around 97. Keep an eye out for your night sweats to see if they increase.

Yes, they have me on Rifampin along with my Lyme meds now for awhile, and I have been told to stay on it, yet I am still afraid for when the next one will hit, its like having babies all over again! And with this herxing from the Lyme meds to top it all off, I just cant seem to get ahead here....I have cut down my protein consumption, I've read that it helps keep the cysts from growing too fast.

Please be very careful if your pet is ever put on rifampin. It is a very powerful antibiotic and made my kitten worse than what he was before he went on the antibiotic. He was so lovable and precious to me. I wish I never would have put him on this antibiotic for cat scratch disease. I loved him very much and will miss him. I have two older cats to help me get through, but this is just like losing one of your children. I have to go, starting to cry again.

Someone asked me about Atripla today. I figure I put my comments here. Atripla is a drug used to treat HIV. It actually consists of 3 drugs, emtricitabine and tenofovir (which also works against HBV) and efavirenz (doesn't work against HBV). Combination treatment is common practice for HIV so they combine multiple drugs into 1 pill. Of course Atripla is NOT an FDA approved therapy for HBV.
