Avatar f tn Another study showed that children who grow up in 3rd world conditions are less likely to have autoimmune problems then children growing up in a sterile environment. I don't remember where exactly these studies were published but I'm sure you'd be able to find them if you search around peer review scientific articles. Unfortunately for the most part immunology is still a growing field, muddled with uncertainty. Right now all you can do is deal with what you have.
1731952 tn?1310179875 Hello, In most cases of eczema no one treatment will be effective. Medical research shows that the most effective treatment plan for eczema involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes(prevention of triggers and application of lots of moisturizers) to control flare-ups. Doing so tends to increase effectiveness and reduce side effects from medications.
Avatar n tn The reason why one might, over time, develop more and/or more severe allergies. The same can be said of Eczema although medical experts now have a much greater understanding of the mechanism of this disease and its treatment. That you have been patch tested suggests that you are under the care of an allergist or dermatologist. The first step should be to speak with your physician to determine if he/she has exhausted all diagnosis/treatment efforts and if Eczema is the correct diagnosis.

Avatar f tn In eczema patients respond to food triggers. Eczema can make allergy testing difficult. In people with eczema and food allergies, strictly avoiding food allergens may help reduce or, occasionally, eliminate symptoms. The most common food triggers for eczema are eggs, milk, peanuts, soy, and wheat. Among these, eggs are probably associated the most strongly with eczema.
Avatar m tn Hello, This itchy rash can be allergic reaction , eczema which is often precipitated by allergies or some chronic skin disease. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used, whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid. But they are available under prescription and should be taken only after consulting a dermatologist. Symptoms can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin.
Avatar f tn The doctors ruled out ring worm, and say it is a form of eczema. But the cream and ointment they gave me for this eczema has never worked for her. It also seems when these bumps appear, she gets tiny red bumps near her eyes and gets a runny nose too. I've attached some photos of her legs when her outbreaks occur. Please help! I'm sick of hearing the same old song and dance from the doctor we use.
Avatar f tn I guess what bothers me is that an estimated 60% of the population now has allergies and there are more and more cases of food allergies diagnosed in children now. I think the number of autoimmune cases and these syndromes (like I have)... are also rising. Why do you think this is and from your experiences... are physicians concerned about this ??

1656931 tn?1302617825 Hello and hope you are doing well. The symptoms described by you could also be due a skin disorder called eczema. People who suffer from this disorder should avoid contact with triggering factors like soaps, cosmetics, jewelry, clothing, and detergents. Sometimes sweat, changes in temperature and psychological stress are known to trigger these episodes. So, the best way to prevent attacks is to identify those substances which you are allergic to and avoid them.
171768 tn?1324230099 Hi all! I am very happy to see this forum, not because I have food allergies, but because as a Pre-K teacher, I often have students with food allergies. I am often amazed by the ignorance of people regarding the seriousness of food allergies, and it can make my job very nerve wracking. It is generally a problem when parents of other children send in foods that a child reacts to. We are not a nut-free school, and I am very surprised that we have not seen any serious reactions yet.

Avatar m tn Hello, Eczema is characterised by red, dry patches which are itchy. If the rash is non itchy then it can be pityriasis alba. Pityriasis alba is a common skin condition mostly occurring in children and usually seen as dry, fine-scaled, pale patches on the face. No treatment is required and the patches in time will settle in due course of time. The redness, scale and itch if present may be managed with simple emollients and sometimes hydrocortisone, a weak steroid, is also used.
Avatar m tn It is usually seen in uncircumcised men due to poor hygiene. Other causes are dermatitis, allergies, infection such as candida, gonorrhea etc, eczema. It is always better to see your doctor who can diagnose and prescribe appropriate treatment for you.
