Avatar f tn I have horrible acne and was prescribed doxycycline. I take orthrotricyclen, does anyone know if they interfere?
Avatar n tn I was on Doxy 100mg for about a month for antimalarial reasons, saw a slight improvement in my skin, and was then prescribed Doxy 50mg for acne indefinitely. I’ve been on this for about 3 weeks. I have definitely noticed fewer pimples, but I still have the odd one here and there. I’ve also been using 10% Benzoyl Peroxide gel which I think has worked wonders. I would like to go off Doxy 50mg to see if it is the Doxy or the Benzoyl which has helped my skin.
Avatar f tn I have been taking doxycycline for 4 days. 2 tabs ( 100mg ) daily for 4 weeks. I'm dealing with all possible side effects this drug could cause. Is it going to get worse? Could anyone tell me their experience with this antibiotic?
Avatar m tn I am a 6'1 85 kg male who has been on accutane for 120 days (4 months). I started on 20 mg a day month 1, 40 mg month 2, and 60 mg months 3 and 4. 3 weeks ago I had my 1st eye infection of my entire life in my right eye so I went to an opthamalogist and he told me to stop taking the accutane for a week (which is what he says caused the infection) and put me on doxyclince hyclate 100mg twice a day and eurithromyocin gel to put on my eyelid that knocked the infection out.
Avatar n tn The treatment that you have been prescribed is correct. If you are having any side effects then get the antibiotics changed and even oral antibiotics can be added. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn I took roaccutane in my late teens and it cleared up my acne wonderfully for a few years, but then it came back, and worse. My skin is much more sensitive now than it ever was before - rashes all the time.. Also, there have been big 'hoo haas' about whether or not it causes depression. I have also suffered a number of clinical depressions since. The best thing I've found for acne is Brevoxyl (4% benzoyl peroxide). It's a cream, available over the counter.
Avatar n tn However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks. Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne. The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So your son should take between 30mg and 60mg per day because he weighs about 60kg.
Avatar n tn Second, hand peeling and hand products have nothing to with acne. Third, the side-effects of Accutane are, in my experience, rarely of ever bad enough to stop the medication, especially after three months. Having said all that, I would add that you seem to be doing pretty well, but I can't tell from your description whether the forehead symptoms are a different rash (like eczema r seborrhea) or a side-effect of acne medication.
Avatar n tn Those sound like normal side effects of prednisone. Nasty drug but can save a dog's life. My golden has been taking 50mg daily for 2 months and the side effects are horrible.
Avatar f tn I was on it for a while because of acne but I wanted to know what STDs it could be used for because I have some discharge. And tomorrow I am done with it so I wanted to know what it could have cleared if I indeed did have anything.
Avatar f tn Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5. I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.
1517845 tn?1311553534 Perioral dermatitis like acne is a chronic papulopustular and eczematous facial dermatitis. It mostly effects women and appear around the nose, mouth and eyes. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. A mild soap or soap substitute, such as Dove or Cetaphil should be used for washing. Scrubbing should be avoided. Doxycycline is the preferred antibiotic for perioral dermatitis but minocycline can also be used.
Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Doxycycline for anti-malaria reasons. I was wondering if it's unsafe to take for 5 consecutive months?
Avatar f tn I've had the same clutter of acne on my check for about 2 years now. It looks like acne but I've taken everything you can think of, doxycycline, accuzone and now I've started facials but it still doesn't go away. There are days where it is less appearant but has never gone away in this 2 year period. My dermatologist thinks it's acne but my Estetitian thinks it might be dermatitis(which I've had in my arms when I was little). What should I do??
Avatar n tn I am a 16 year old male in my family their is no hair loss at all my 88 year old grand father still has all of his hair. Anyways took doxycycline for 3 months for acne problems about 1 month after ending my treatment started seeing my hair thin to the point i could see my scalp. I even receded from the temples as if i had male pattern baldness. Will the hair grow back and if yes how long can it take???
Avatar n tn Dr. Rockoff, Thank you for your timely response. I appreciate your feedback and will certainly follow up with my dermatologist when an appointment becomes available. In the mean time, I would like to ask a few follow up questions. As a dermatological practitioner, what is the general perception of a skin reaction (such as a mild skin rash on the forehead) that occurs immediately after taking a month's worth of antibiotics?
Avatar n tn But the insomnia was miserable so I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do for the side effects, so he switched me to 3 wks of doxycycline, which I started taking immediately. Now I sleep OK but after two days the symptoms are back in full force. I'm wondering if I made a mistake in switching. Have others had similar experiences? Is doxy just slower to take effect?
