does chantix work

have wanted to for a long time. Does Chantix work, how well, how long did ya smoke, how many packs. How long does it take to work. I could use and would really appreciate any info on the matter. I've gone cold turkey befor but this 49 year old Bird aint as tough as she used to be. I did defer the Subloxone for hydro w/d tho after research. Any success stories would be most graciusly received.

We are not medical doctors so if you want to know about the side effects then you should call them (chantix) directly at 1-877-CHANTIX. Also, there is something that comes with the prescription that tells you about the risks. You had better read up on it. Sorry to hear that you are having seizures. I took chantix with very little side effects. Good luck with everything and if you need support with your quit, then we are here for you.

does anyone know if chantix is hard on the liver? im taking it to stop smoking before TX? anyone knows of anyone who took it does it work?

Hi I am on Chantix to quit smoking and quit a few days ago. I am very tired so tierd that I cant even turn on the TV.. Is this a normal side effect from going off nicotine? This is the third day that has been like this. I was a heavy smoker before at 1 1/2 packs a day for 30 plus years.

Hey My dad had like a month and half of chantix left it didnt work for him well he didnt really try that hard though! But i was wondering if anyone else had tryd that? He said i can have his month and half worth but i dont think a month and half is long enough to take it. So i was going to get it prescribed to me. But before I do i was wondering if there are any rating of it from you all?

He was even wearing his own clothes. Chantix does what it says for me with no side effects to date (unless you consider GREAT vivid dreams bad). It has really curbed my urges and cravings. Down to a few cigs from 2 1/2 packs. And the taste is so bad I only take one or two hits before I have to dispose of them.

First thing...stop the Chantix. Yes, in many people even those with no history of major depression Chantix is proven to have the potential to cause depression. There are better ways to stop smoking than to alter your brain chemistry.

Well my problem is that I can NOT take anti depressants because they make it 100 times worse for me....I learned that 16 years ago and 3 hospital stays later. My depression was getting worse day by day taking the Chantix but when I got off of it it seemed to lift and I felt a little better yesterday and today BUT it's still here....I quit the day before. I just wondered if Chantix stayed in your system for a while or not.

I will tell myself if i clean the kitchen then i can have a smoke, or if i got to get up and make dinner then i can reward myself with a smoke. my DR, is putting me on chantix does it work or am i waisting my money?

OH! I almost forgot to ask, ALSO- how long does it take for Chantix to get into your system and start rejecting the nicotine?? I swear, it's only been two days, and it's already working! but, I could be wrong.. When do the withdrawal symptoms from the nicotine actually go away?

Read the post by Joanna564 dated 3/11 titled "Is itching a symptom of nicotine withdrawl." It's hard to say what is or isn't normal but I'm quite sure that it does have to do with with your cutting back or the Chantix even though it isn't listed as a side effect. I had itching also but mainly my nose and scalp. I had finished taking Chantix by then so I didn't think to blame it on that. You said that you were having headaches a few days ago. Have those subsided?

I, too, smoked for over 40 years. Between that and severe acid reflux, I had built up excess tissue on my vocal cords, to the point that I could hardly talk. I'd gotten to the point that it was so painful to even make sound that I tried not to talk as much as possible. I was sent to an ENT, who said he could remove that tissue (it wasn't cancer, but he was sure it would be soon), but he wouldn't touch me until I had quit smoking for 2 months.

I took chantix for 1 1/2 months and experienced a little gas but that was all. I quit taking chantix 3 days after my last cigarette and that was 9 months 1 week and 4 days ago. I think I should consider myself one of the lucky ones as all I hear on this board is how bad chantix was for them! Outside of this board, I knew a dozen or so people who took it, and none of them had anything more serious then gas and bad dreams! I hope you start feeling better real soon and I hope that you have quit.

I hope dropping the mgs will do the trick and you can continue with the Chantix without being so physically miserable. Since you already work there, at least you were at a hospital when you had your attack! How convenient is that? I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not. ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. You may want to get that checked. Does anybody know if it's OK to use chantex & the gum at the same time? or has anyone tried it this way, I'm going for my big quit on Monday.

The one other medication is acamprosate, or 'Campral'. I think GA Guy is right about the Chantix-- seems I read something about a study showing it reducing alcohol cravings as well. All of the meds above work differently. Naltrexone blocks opiate receptors, and it is thought that alcohol causes release of endorphins and that is one reason for the addictive nature of alcohol. Curiously, naltrexone reduces cravings for alcohol, but does NOT reduce cravings for opiates!

I have taken Chantix in the past, and tolerated it well with the exception of constipation. Pfizer does not list anything like this as a previously observed Chantix side effect.

to get a drug called Chantix to quit smoking. Was taking it the week I was taking the Norcos...that second week (this week) I'm out of Norco and quit smoking.....and I FEEL GREAT!!!! I mean seriously, minimal withdrawls, felt foggy this morning but otherwise feel just fine....no chills...NOTHING!!!! AND...I'm not smoking either!! Ok so I'm on my 3rd day of no Norco and no smokes....feeling perfect and I'm excited!! Could the Chantix be helping me with the Norco addiction?

Ok well it may be the Chantix... but I dont know... most symptoms I know of with Chantix are stomach related. Just in case I would try stopping... if you still get you know thats not it... However, i actually think you may have a sinus infection... Very common when you first quit. Usually appears as though you get a cold or something within the first 3 weeks... it's actually like all the crap is coming up from your system.

You smoke for the first 7 days on Chantix, cutting back. Then 8th day quit. It really does work, but be prepared for some horrible dreams.I have been visited by my deceased monther, my ex-husband, lost my work car, wrecked my work car....if you can thiink it up, I've probably dreamed it in the past 7 weeks! I was taking Chantix for about a week and a half when I had to quit it because I was experiencing depression which was getting worse by the day. This is going on the 2nd full day of no Chantix but I am still feeling depressed. I want to know how long does it stay in your system for. I woke up today and felt close to normal and then it came back again.

So the fact that playing with your brain neurotransmitters, something that Chantix does as well, makes you feel better than you did doesn't mean you were depressed, it means you felt a bit better because nicotine causes an increase in dopamine release and Chantix mimics this effect as it blocks nicotine from attaching to nicotine receptors.
