Does chantix really work

Common Questions and Answers about Does chantix really work

chantix

Avatar n tn have wanted to for a long time. Does Chantix work, how well, how long did ya smoke, how many packs. How long does it take to work. I could use and would really appreciate any info on the matter. I've gone cold turkey befor but this 49 year old Bird aint as tough as she used to be. I did defer the Subloxone for hydro w/d tho after research. Any success stories would be most graciusly received.
Avatar n tn We are not medical doctors so if you want to know about the side effects then you should call them (chantix) directly at 1-877-CHANTIX. Also, there is something that comes with the prescription that tells you about the risks. You had better read up on it. Sorry to hear that you are having seizures. I took chantix with very little side effects. Good luck with everything and if you need support with your quit, then we are here for you.
984138 tn?1359813073 Hey My dad had like a month and half of chantix left it didnt work for him well he didnt really try that hard though! But i was wondering if anyone else had tryd that? He said i can have his month and half worth but i dont think a month and half is long enough to take it. So i was going to get it prescribed to me. But before I do i was wondering if there are any rating of it from you all?
950277 tn?1247274551 She has been on Chantix for 3months. She actually lights her smoke but does not smoke it. She does this twice daily. She really has quit. It is amazing!
596605 tn?1369946627 Ohh, I see, well, the weaning will do that. Good job committing to both quits, wow! I'm happy to read you're working closely with your doctor. I just read your profile and omg, I hope the smoking quit will help with your chronic headache. It's not going to HURT, I can guarantee you that!
407029 tn?1253992623 does anyone know if chantix is hard on the liver? im taking it to stop smoking before TX? anyone knows of anyone who took it does it work?
380558 tn?1309042387 Quiting the smokes is something I really want to attempt one of these days. I was curious about that Chantix too. Guess I'll deal with one addiction at a time. Good luck with this Alli. And congrats on the new job, pay increase etc. Sounds like things are really going great for you.
Avatar f tn I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
444932 tn?1273980797 Read the post by Joanna564 dated 3/11 titled "Is itching a symptom of nicotine withdrawl." It's hard to say what is or isn't normal but I'm quite sure that it does have to do with with your cutting back or the Chantix even though it isn't listed as a side effect. I had itching also but mainly my nose and scalp. I had finished taking Chantix by then so I didn't think to blame it on that. You said that you were having headaches a few days ago. Have those subsided?
444932 tn?1273980797 Thank you both for your replies..........I had a really horrid day at the hospital. Drove to work in a freaking blizzard, had the "weird" feelings zapping me from the Chantix, then I got a migraine and then I made the mistake of taking my BP which sent me into a panic attack. I told my charge nurse I was going to the ER cuz I was feeling REALLY weird, but she just had me lay down with some oxygen and relax.........I took one of my Xanax and actually fell asleep for about an hour.
1096641 tn?1271707225 and I really don't think of smoking all that much. I am taking Chantix and for me its awesome...takes away my desire for a puff. Not 100% but so much that i no longer obsess over smoking. I've changed some smoking habits...when i take the dog outside in the morning, i have my coffee instead of a cig, on the way to work I drink out of my bottle of water, instead of lighting up...at work, I eat an apple, take a walk, or brush my teeth when my 'smoke time' comes...
Avatar m tn First thing...stop the Chantix. Yes, in many people even those with no history of major depression Chantix is proven to have the potential to cause depression. There are better ways to stop smoking than to alter your brain chemistry.
Avatar n tn Does anybody know if it's OK to use chantex & the gum at the same time? or has anyone tried it this way, I'm going for my big quit on Monday.
Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I took chantix for 1 1/2 months and experienced a little gas but that was all. I quit taking chantix 3 days after my last cigarette and that was 9 months 1 week and 4 days ago. I think I should consider myself one of the lucky ones as all I hear on this board is how bad chantix was for them! Outside of this board, I knew a dozen or so people who took it, and none of them had anything more serious then gas and bad dreams! I hope you start feeling better real soon and I hope that you have quit.
334876 tn?1229979296 You smoke for the first 7 days on Chantix, cutting back. Then 8th day quit. It really does work, but be prepared for some horrible dreams.I have been visited by my deceased monther, my ex-husband, lost my work car, wrecked my work car....if you can thiink it up, I've probably dreamed it in the past 7 weeks! But it's worth it! Keep us posted!.And I'll take that last beer please!.
Avatar f tn I will tell myself if i clean the kitchen then i can have a smoke, or if i got to get up and make dinner then i can reward myself with a smoke. my DR, is putting me on chantix does it work or am i waisting my money?
Avatar f tn I, too, smoked for over 40 years. Between that and severe acid reflux, I had built up excess tissue on my vocal cords, to the point that I could hardly talk. I'd gotten to the point that it was so painful to even make sound that I tried not to talk as much as possible. I was sent to an ENT, who said he could remove that tissue (it wasn't cancer, but he was sure it would be soon), but he wouldn't touch me until I had quit smoking for 2 months.
1134609 tn?1269272200 Also there is that drug Chantix. At my office we have had patients on it and it really does work. It blocks the receptors in the brain or something so your body doesn't want the cigarettes. But, it is a prescription and you should ask your doctor about it. (It does cause crazy dreams and stuff so best to talk to your doctor.) I would say cold turkey for you is not a good idea. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I am feeling better but really guys...Does anyone else have chest pain that lasts up to 3 hours? I do. last time I dealt with this for 2 months before going back to smoking. Smoking also brought my anxiety level down quick and even tho I have increased the anxiety meds I'm on, I still get that anxiety tingle and painful muscle cramps when I crave. Is there anyone out there that knows what I mean and have any advice for me? Please dont tell me to go to whyquit.com.
Avatar m tn So the fact that playing with your brain neurotransmitters, something that Chantix does as well, makes you feel better than you did doesn't mean you were depressed, it means you felt a bit better because nicotine causes an increase in dopamine release and Chantix mimics this effect as it blocks nicotine from attaching to nicotine receptors.
540521 tn?1221699706 I am 35 years old and i have been smoking since i was 15, I tried the patch and i did not get results. I really need to quit for my kids and for my health, Does anyone have any recommendations for quitting and what really works besides the patch? Any help is Greatly appreciated. Thanks so much..
595141 tn?1239971814 My doctor was trying to give me scripts for antidepressants to quit drinking lol, no way would that have helped i had to do that one on my own. Good luck, try chantix IT REALLY WORKS. I smoked for 40 years and quit in less than 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn Ok well it may be the Chantix... but I dont know... most symptoms I know of with Chantix are stomach related. Just in case I would try stopping... if you still get you know thats not it... However, i actually think you may have a sinus infection... Very common when you first quit. Usually appears as though you get a cold or something within the first 3 weeks... it's actually like all the crap is coming up from your system.
