Chantix does it work

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix does it work

chantix

Avatar n tn have wanted to for a long time. Does Chantix work, how well, how long did ya smoke, how many packs. How long does it take to work. I could use and would really appreciate any info on the matter. I've gone cold turkey befor but this 49 year old Bird aint as tough as she used to be. I did defer the Subloxone for hydro w/d tho after research. Any success stories would be most graciusly received.
Avatar n tn i have just started taking it and since i have been on it ii have been having seizures.
407029 tn?1253992623 I've heard of a lot of people that it has helped, I hope it works for you. I think that chantix is processed by the kidneys more than the liver, you need to ask your dr. or pharmacist to be sure. Good luck!
286124 tn?1214938528 CHANTIX contains no nicotine, but it targets the same receptors that nicotine does. CHANTIX is believed to block nicotine from these receptors. It is the only prescription treatment of its kind. Studies show: At the end of 12 weeks of CHANTIX, 44% were able to quit smoking. It also helped reduce the urge to smoke. CHANTIX has been proven to be more effective in helping smokers quit than Zyban®. The average person in these studies had been a smoker for more than 24 years.
596605 tn?1369946627 She recommended that I cut my Chantix dose in half, if it continues. So yes i am working very closely with my doc. Thanks for the kudos, the Chantix has really helped me , knock on wood.
984138 tn?1359813073 It does work for many many ppl, my hubby it didn't he went off them at ten weeks with bad side effects, but not everyone has side effects. I used the gum, now 12 months smoke free:) go for it..
950277 tn?1247274551 He was even wearing his own clothes. Chantix does what it says for me with no side effects to date (unless you consider GREAT vivid dreams bad). It has really curbed my urges and cravings. Down to a few cigs from 2 1/2 packs. And the taste is so bad I only take one or two hits before I have to dispose of them.
Avatar m tn First thing...stop the Chantix. Yes, in many people even those with no history of major depression Chantix is proven to have the potential to cause depression. There are better ways to stop smoking than to alter your brain chemistry.
Avatar f tn Smoking provides immediate relief and over the counter meds or diet/exercise changes do not seem to work. Does it just take many months for the Nicotine to leave the system and for gas symptoms to stop? Do I just need to stick it out longer?

380558 tn?1309042387 OH! I almost forgot to ask, ALSO- how long does it take for Chantix to get into your system and start rejecting the nicotine?? I swear, it's only been two days, and it's already working! but, I could be wrong.. When do the withdrawal symptoms from the nicotine actually go away?
Avatar f tn I will tell myself if i clean the kitchen then i can have a smoke, or if i got to get up and make dinner then i can reward myself with a smoke. my DR, is putting me on chantix does it work or am i waisting my money?
444932 tn?1273980797 Read the post by Joanna564 dated 3/11 titled "Is itching a symptom of nicotine withdrawl." It's hard to say what is or isn't normal but I'm quite sure that it does have to do with with your cutting back or the Chantix even though it isn't listed as a side effect. I had itching also but mainly my nose and scalp. I had finished taking Chantix by then so I didn't think to blame it on that. You said that you were having headaches a few days ago. Have those subsided?
Avatar f tn I, too, smoked for over 40 years. Between that and severe acid reflux, I had built up excess tissue on my vocal cords, to the point that I could hardly talk. I'd gotten to the point that it was so painful to even make sound that I tried not to talk as much as possible. I was sent to an ENT, who said he could remove that tissue (it wasn't cancer, but he was sure it would be soon), but he wouldn't touch me until I had quit smoking for 2 months.
427279 tn?1210919821 Unfortunatly I got so sleepy not sure if it was the chantix heard others said it was I had to go off it and yeap right back at smoking. When you stop the pills you really need to have a plan to not go back to it as the pill really cut the craving to nothing but it comes back so work on finding things to do with your hands well on the chantix so when the course is done maybe you will have better success staying off the smack then I did!
444932 tn?1273980797 So I did, and I will try, and maybe it will work, but I like what you did and can only hope that that is the way it will finally work for me too. That just little by little, over time, those urges WILL begin to fade and I can see that I'm smoking less and less and will just one day, like you say, "that's it!" I know we still need to go through the physical w/d, but if your down to just a few a day (from my normal 45+) then it would have to be a great deal easier.
Avatar n tn I am a respiratory therapist and have been watching the wonders of Chantix since it was developed. I have seen wonderful results in many patients. However, my husband could not take it. He became very mean and I took him off. Shortly there after, even though I was told this was not a side effect of Chantix, reports started coming out about this very issue related to Chantix. My point is, who knows? I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different.
Avatar n tn No, it isn't okay. One or the other, never both.
Avatar f tn The one other medication is acamprosate, or 'Campral'. I think GA Guy is right about the Chantix-- seems I read something about a study showing it reducing alcohol cravings as well. All of the meds above work differently. Naltrexone blocks opiate receptors, and it is thought that alcohol causes release of endorphins and that is one reason for the addictive nature of alcohol. Curiously, naltrexone reduces cravings for alcohol, but does NOT reduce cravings for opiates!
Avatar f tn Also, I started Chantix for smoking cessation 2 days prior. I have taken Chantix in the past, and tolerated it well with the exception of constipation. Pfizer does not list anything like this as a previously observed Chantix side effect.
Avatar m tn So, I have heard horrible stories about the side effects of Chantix, how was it for everyone that has used it?? Despite what people say about the side effects, everyone I know that has used it has successfully quit smoking, but I'm nervous about about what they say it does. I have had several people tell me that they have horrible nightmares, have SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, and feel like they are just down right going crazy???
Avatar m tn Ok well it may be the Chantix... but I dont know... most symptoms I know of with Chantix are stomach related. Just in case I would try stopping... if you still get you know thats not it... However, i actually think you may have a sinus infection... Very common when you first quit. Usually appears as though you get a cold or something within the first 3 weeks... it's actually like all the crap is coming up from your system.
334876 tn?1229979296 You smoke for the first 7 days on Chantix, cutting back. Then 8th day quit. It really does work, but be prepared for some horrible dreams.I have been visited by my deceased monther, my ex-husband, lost my work car, wrecked my work car....if you can thiink it up, I've probably dreamed it in the past 7 weeks! But it's worth it! Keep us posted!.And I'll take that last beer please!.
Avatar f tn I was taking Chantix for about a week and a half when I had to quit it because I was experiencing depression which was getting worse by the day. This is going on the 2nd full day of no Chantix but I am still feeling depressed. I want to know how long does it stay in your system for. I woke up today and felt close to normal and then it came back again.
