Hello,Im a male taking Avodart for hair loss but im worried,by what the information is regarding pregnancy. My question is can i still try to conceive while im taking avodart. How will this medication effect my sperm count and also will my sperm have this medicine in them. Will it cause a birth defect if I should get my girlfriend pregnant. Also if we try for a child how long will it take for the tablets to be out of my stysem Any help would be very much appriecated..

The Flomax was not working very well, initially and my MD switched me to Jalyn, mostly because of the CombaT Study which looked at combination regimens for BPH. The Jalyn (Flomax & Avodart) does a GREAT job and I am pretty much symptom free. My thought was that switching to Avodart alone would leave me with one less drug going into my system, keep my good results, and, hopefully reduce the IFIS risk.

When I developed gynecomastia (which is minor and I ignore) I lowered the dose of AVODART to one twice a week which is 8/month (from 15/month). AVODART has a long half life. Will 8/month still work? I wrote to GLaxo who make Avodart and they said what you said "ask your physician". My physician is very busy and I don't want to waste his time. My next appointment is in June and I will ask at that time if I don't have an answer by then.

Now I am 10 months post tx. What I have noticed is all your hair does not start to grow at the same time. Much of it does, but I have many 3, 4, 5 inch strands all over the top of my head. Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow. Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production. AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it. This does not sound like hsv. Flu like symptoms come at the same time. Usually the sores come first. Not the other way around. This sounds like folicus more than anything. Also initial outbreaks usually happen 3-5 days. Rarely up to twenty days. Not over three months. Hsv sores take 10-14 days to heal. They start as small red bumps then evolve into a fluid filled blisters in a day or two. Then they pop, scab and then heal. This takes atleasr ten days to two weeks. Never a few days.

You could go to a better laser place and have it drawn on what shape you want. Obviously they can only remove more hair, not put any back, but they could shape it how you want it. In the world of problems, this one is not too bad because not many people will ever see it, right? And probably the object was to avoid cleaning it up for swim wear anyway. If only they could put hair back, then nobody would be hairless who didn't want to be.

What is normal time to stay Avodart ? The doc give enough for 3 weeks but I would think I would need to stay on for longer than that. I have had no side effects as I know of and I believe it has helped. How long has others stayed on this ? Thanks for any help.

I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?

Is this normal for you to lose hair when starting thyroid meds, then get the hair back, and then lose the hair again? I'm so confused. My TSH on 70 Synthroid was 1.26 Free T4 was 1.3 (Range: 0.8-1.8) All I did was up the Synthroid to 75, not too big of a jump. As weird as it sounds my body hair grew faster but my head hair only got thicker. It didn't grow long just thick. But my leg and arm pit hair grew long faster lol.

I treated for 48 weeks and lost a LOT of hair. It started growing back a little near the end but then started falling out again. I think I lost about 70 or 80% of my hair. Would test to make sure the thyroid levels are stable (TSH 0.5-2.5). The hair does not always grow back the same way after chemo. There are hair/nail vitamins that can be taken -- they are available over-the-counter -- it sometimes helps. The thyroid medication itself would not cause the hair problems -- but thyroid imbalance can contribute (ie if the levels aren't on target).
