Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications.
I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
When I developed gynecomastia (which is minor and I ignore) I lowered the dose of AVODART to one twice a week which is 8/month (from 15/month). AVODART has a long half life. Will 8/month still work? I wrote to GLaxo who make Avodart and they said what you said "ask your physician". My physician is very busy and I don't want to waste his time. My next appointment is in June and I will ask at that time if I don't have an answer by then.

s the downside. We have to have our prostate shrunk and medication that does it can also affect our penis. Have you had much shrinkage? Shrinkage can happen for different reasons. Even getting older an cause it, smoking, taking various medications (not just avodart), gaining weight, etc. Do you find you also have erectile dysfunction? Avodart, unfortunately, is associated with these side effects. It's unclear though how long they will last. What does your doctor say?
The first one has disappeared on its own, leaving only a small red mark. I picked at another one and it bled a little bit and scabbed slightly. The other two, I picked at and could get to pop or open up or anything.
I had shaved this area about a week before with a probably too old razor, but while some of these may be folliculitis, I don't think they all are at hair follicles. Can an infection at one follicle site spread?

I take my vitamins everyday and my hair doesn't grow its dry and awhful actually. And I don't even colour my hair. It's been over a year since I've coloured it. I too am bummed about this because I was looking forward to my hair finally growing. I chopped it all off a while ago.
I lost a probably about 45% but luckily it thinned all over. the only part I had to hide was a receding hair line in the front (Like my dad has) So I didn't put my hair up and just combed long hair over for a while.
I have been done with treatment for a couple months now..and my hair, (while still thinned out) is a completely different texture then it was on treatment. I noticed within a few weeks after tx the shine was back and it did not look so dead anymore.
What i do to make my hair healthier is that i make a hair pack that contains egg glycerin castor oil and vinegar..
I am in my 50's, and this past year I have started to grow hair where it should NOT be, facial like a man and my stomach, is there any help for this problem? And what makes this happen ?
Yes! I just chopped off my long hair, and it's already starting to grow a lot. Plus, I find myself needing to shave my legs/underarms more... Often I'm too lazy to do it, though.
My arm hair and leg hair seems to grow back super fast it's annoying. Anyone feel me on this ?
It all depends on the person.
It most likely is a beard hair but is growing on your wrest.
