Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications.
I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
When I developed gynecomastia (which is minor and I ignore) I lowered the dose of AVODART to one twice a week which is 8/month (from 15/month). AVODART has a long half life. Will 8/month still work? I wrote to GLaxo who make Avodart and they said what you said "ask your physician". My physician is very busy and I don't want to waste his time. My next appointment is in June and I will ask at that time if I don't have an answer by then.

s the downside. We have to have our prostate shrunk and medication that does it can also affect our penis. Have you had much shrinkage? Shrinkage can happen for different reasons. Even getting older an cause it, smoking, taking various medications (not just avodart), gaining weight, etc. Do you find you also have erectile dysfunction? Avodart, unfortunately, is associated with these side effects. It's unclear though how long they will last. What does your doctor say?
The first one has disappeared on its own, leaving only a small red mark. I picked at another one and it bled a little bit and scabbed slightly. The other two, I picked at and could get to pop or open up or anything.
I had shaved this area about a week before with a probably too old razor, but while some of these may be folliculitis, I don't think they all are at hair follicles. Can an infection at one follicle site spread?

I asked my urologist to consider putting me on the standard dosage of Depo Testosterone, strictly as an exogenous source of free testosterone, due to malaise, fatigue, etc.

I am suffering from BPH for the last 4 years and I am taking DUTASTERIDE (AVODART) and Alfuzosin .
Unfortunately , these meds do not help much since few months ago.
I also about a new procedure named: gat-goren (GG), that sounds as non-pervasive.
Did anyone hear about the GG procedure and can share experience or knowledge about that ?
Hi HSV i falls into the false positive range as any number 3.5 or below needs retesting and if you took the test at least 3 month post any exposure its almost certainly a false positive.
Your negative for hsv2. Any number below .99 is negative.
I say this because there are certain medications meant for men, like Avodart for enlarged prostate, that women are told not to even handle. They say so on the commercials for this medication. If women are told not to even handle Avodart, which would mean that it can be absorbed through the skin, I would think you may be right about the possibility of you absorbing the hormones from the IUD. But, I suspect some doctor may refute this, although I don't know why.
Is this normal for you to lose hair when starting thyroid meds, then get the hair back, and then lose the hair again? I'm so confused.
My TSH on 70 Synthroid was 1.26
Free T4 was 1.3 (Range: 0.8-1.8)
All I did was up the Synthroid to 75, not too big of a jump. My hair was actually starting to look great, but now it's thinning out again. What gives?

I had a sexual encounter with 2 months ago and I took a igg blood test after 6 weeks. The test came back negative for type 1 and 2. Would I need to do another test at a later date to make sure my results are accurate? I spoke to the people that done my test and they said my results are accurate. Would I need to do another one?
I am mastrubating for 20 years and used to use my hand to mastrubate and when the Penis does not stand I still mastrubate and ejaculate and I get the white semen, sometiems I do it 5 times a day and I have just plain liquid instead of sperm when I done this.

I was then diagnosed with Chronic Prostatitis and put on Avodart (still taking) with no effect. I am now on Levaquin in addition to the Avodart and there is no change to the symptoms (which now includes major pain/pressure in my perinium, scrotum and extreme pressure in my anus). My last appointment was five days ago at UCLA medical center and they are once again focusing on prostatitis.
Age 75, health quite good. Gleason 6 (3+3) 2 out of 12 cores positive (3% and 22%) PSA (08/08) 4.7 PSADT 3.34 yrs. Do you agree with general guidance for invoking active treatment vs. observation if another biopsy done in 04/09 shows increase in positive cores to 3 or more or if any one core shows 50%+ positive for cancer? Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode?
I have had an ultrasound of the prostate which checked out fine and have been tested for chlamydia and gonorhea, which both came back negative. I am currently taking uroxatral and avodart daily, and am curious as to why I am still having symptoms. Is it possible of being overmedicated? Or is there something that has been missed? If so what other possibilities are there?
s father passed away from prostate cancer that spread to the back bone and blood. My dad is on Avodart and his PSA is 1.5 which the doctor is very happy with. His doctor, who is a specialist, said that if the PSA does not go up in 6 months and continues to decrease, then he may not need another biopsy after the 6 months unless the PSA goes back up. My dad is in a study and is being evaluated every 4 to 6 months.
Ok, here goes. This initially started 9 months ago w/ ejaculating blood. Went to internist and he said, "prostitus"... Went on cirpo for 2 weeks. Gone.. 3 weeks later and I felt like I was carrying a gallon of water in me. Turns out I was. I went to a urologist and he did a ultrasound on my stomach.. 311 cc's of liquid... After 4 months of carrying a gallon of water. 3 different antibiotics constant pelvic pain, always bloated, shooting penile pain...
