abilify

918275 tn?1254068752 I am on Abilify 20mg and I have absolutely no energy. I am in bed for 3 and 4 days at a time. I am getting really discouraged. I am better mentally than I was, but I am zombie like, unable to participate in my own life. Is the Abilify causing this? Or perhaps I need another medication added? I don't know what to think.
Avatar m tn YES YES YES...give it time. I take mine at night because after taking for awhile, it gave me a sedative effect. GLADLY, my insomnia is better. When I first tried it, I didn't like it all - made me feel just a little odd (Stoned to be exact)...but have adjusted and love it now. I was rapid cycling back and forth and it helps level me out. I still have issues, but not as bad.
Avatar m tn I have been on Abilify for 2 months or so, give or take. I am not schizophrenic, Bi-Polar, or Autistic. I just suffer from Panic Attacks. My Doctor prescribed me Abilify as an enhancer for my Paxil/Xanax cocktail. Long story short, I was taking 2mg of abilify once a day. Recently My Insurance decided they were going to be the Doctor and my funding for the Abilify ran out. I am not going to pay $543.00 for meds can't afford it and think that price is ludicrous.
712802 tn?1274645485 What you experience may be quite different from what everyone has posted. You might take Abilify and find that you have no side effects and it helps you and you will continue to take it. You might find that you get side effects that you can't tolerate and then you will quit it. The only way to find out is by trying it.
202665 tn?1248806733 You could go to the medication website but from my experience and general knowledge its activating rather than sedation so if it keeps you up at night you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning. Otherwise it has the same side effect profile as the other atypical antipsychotics though its the least likely to cause weight gain.
918275 tn?1254068752 Depression is a killer, it takes your life away cause your are in bed for days and nights without the energy to get up, and then when you finally do get out of bed you know that it is only for a short time and you dread it cause you know without a doubt you will be back in the same boat once again. Over and over and over. My mood has stabilized. I am stable in the lowest lows. Isn't there some kind of meds to help pull you up and out of this deep dark place?
Avatar f tn Pllease don't drink!! There are so many medications out there, you just didn't get started off on the right one. I suggest you see your psychiatrist, not a family doctor, and see about a new medication. They don't all make you groggy and foggy. I take 2mg of Abilify and it's been a godsend. I have my energy, finally and I was like you, on the couch unable to do anything for months. I was diagnosed with depression but come to find out it was bipolar.
574118 tn?1305135284 s due to the antidepressant usually i suppose. abilify does replace the AD, although an AP but abilify is good for depression. so i would recommend to take it in the morning only. have you tried taking abilify only with xanax?
Avatar f tn Hi. I am withdrawing cold turkey from Abilify 15mgs. My psych provider refuses to change my medication to something else and won’t see me for another 3 weeks. I’m gaining weight on the abilify and I cannot take anymore. I am recovering from anorexia nervosa and have been at a healthy weight for a few months now so the added weight is unbearable. My question is if excessive sweating is a withdrawal side effect that anyone here has experienced and if so how long does this last?
1696867 tn?1312609591 I take Effexor and he did too at one time but his Pyschiatrist told him she does not like the effects of Effexor and Abilify together. His life is much better these days. I hoper you are doing better as well. Life with these mental issues we have can be the pits. I empathsize with you. Have a good day!
574118 tn?1305135284 Abilify is supposed to be activating...might give you a little lift. I'm taking it now, but might end up on concerta anyway due to cognitive issues.
526311 tn?1229286330 There is no 'high' with abilify so I think you are safe. I take it for bipolar disorder. If you were to take more than you needed you would make yourself sick but not high because each dosage increase often causes side effects like nausea and constipation. Your brain will get used to the drug and discontinuing it will cause certain symptoms. But it isn't addiction. It is just your brain complaining because you are altaring its chemistry. So I think you are okay.
Avatar m tn Welbutrin, Cymbalta, and Effexor are all SNRIs - serotonin norepinepherine reuptake inhibitors. How were you doing on Cymbalta and Abilify? Could the depression be caused by going off the Abilify by any chance? I don't know much about Abilify; it's just a tought to consider. I'd definitely give Effexor more time to work. You are on a pretty small dose, compared to what most people need. Many individuals I know are on more, but DON'T play with that by yourself, please!
Avatar f tn I am on zoloft which does not help with my anxiety, does adding abilify help with the anxiety and the depression?
526901 tn?1216334227 This is provided Abilify helps you, if not, I would see about switching too. Geodon is in the family with Abilify and it works fast too, like within a couple weeks. Just a suggestion. Good Luck, I know how frustrating it is finding the right medication. I've been on over 47 kinds of meds over the last 10 years. Cymbalta was another one that helped my panic attacks, I went on that after being on Prozac for 8 or 9 years. It works faster than Prozac but slower than celexa & lexapro.
1240654 tn?1268317515 I was on abilify for a bit. I hated it. It stopped all my thoughts. It basically turned me into a zombie. I went off of it and switched to seroquel, which I prefered. Seroquel causes weight gain and drowsiness, though. I gained about 20 lbs on it. I would take the dose at night but it was so drowsy that I would be hung over in the morning so I started splitting the dose and taking it 3 times a day which meant that I was drowsy all the time but functioning.
Avatar f tn So, right now I am working with my Psychiatrist to address the agitation part (the lack of energy/concentration is for the most part taken care of). I am currently taking Abilify, which I find really helps me with agitation, but I had to drop to a lower dosage, and I am not finding it's not as effective. I have also noticed when I take the Abilify along with my Adderall it helps increase my energy and productivity.
603543 tn?1255294450 Did you ask your pharmacist if abilify and ambien and any other meds you might be taking, including OTC meds, might be interacting to cause you to feel like this? Sometimes pharmacists know more about adverse drug interactions than dr's. Just a thought.
Avatar f tn It works for a lot of people and may work for you also. Give the Abilify a good 6 weeks to work at full effect. Keep in touch and if you need me you can always PM me.
Avatar m tn I did find them helpful (I have schizoaffective and have made a full recovery, read through my posts) and unlike anti-depressents their effect does usually last long term as long as you keep the dose stable. Glad to hear things have improved and I would say you can expect it to last. Sometimes it does take a while to find the correct medication and dose but its a good feeling when it happens.
Avatar m tn To check you sugar levels and cholesterol, because if you are suspectible Abilify could cause a spike in those levels.
Avatar n tn When I looked up weight gain and bipolar medications, Abilify was at the bottom of the list for weight gain, Geodon people gained the least then Abilify. I'm on 2mg. of Abilify and in the begining you tend to feel sleepy, that's why they start you on it at bedtime. I would be surprised if Abilify caused a racing heart but you definately have to tell your doc about that. I was also on Wellbutrin and had to come off because it caused to much anxiety.
Avatar f tn I know what you mean about the energy, they do give you energy. I can tell you though, that honestly does not last--When i quit takin them after close to 3 years I was so far behind in everything--house cleaning, car a mess, yard work, school work, bills---everything. Something happens after a short time that causes that "energy" not to be as productive.
Avatar f tn Abilify is like a wonder drug. It has helped me so much with hallucinations/dillusions/ I dont have a diagnosis yet, just symptoms. It could be aggitated depression. Abilify makes me feel like ME again. Hope that helped.
918275 tn?1254068752 I was glad to hear that Abilify gives you more energy and certainly hope that it will eventually do the same for me. I really need something to help me with the depressed side but I do not want more weight gain issues. Why do we have to trade off being thin and unhappy to being overweight if there is to be any chance of happiness. Ahh if we only could answer that question.
