Common Questions and Answers about Diltiazem overdose a role for high-dose insulin

tiazac

Avatar n tn An overdose of diltiazem can be fatal, so if you are not sure if you missed a dose, to be safe, don't take any that day. I used to get a marker and put M T W T F S S above each pill in line (they were in the foil strips). That way I could see if I had taken that days medication.
Avatar f tn In studying the insulin resistance of 29 people with Hepatitis C, Australian researchers have confirmed that they have high insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes. However, almost all insulin resistance was in muscle, with little or none in the liver, a very surprising finding given that Hepatitis C is a liver disease. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps the body use glucose for energy. The two most important organs that respond to insulin are the liver and muscle.
Avatar f tn Food, Exercise, Meds, Life Style the same, yet one or two months b/g is the same, then suddenly the b/g drops drastically with a need to cut insulin dose in half, but when the dose is cut a great need to urinate and drink a lot and weight loss indicating the need for more insulin, yet b/g stays very low for some days or so. What's happening to this type 1 brittle diabetic for over 20 years?! Months later b/g goes up and stays up, need for more insulin to level things out.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 33 year old male, not overweight, not diabetic, I've been dealing with tachycardia for some time now. It comes and goes. I found that 50mg of Metoprolol twice a day would mostly control it, but as a 33 year old man, I began to notice major erection issues since being on it. Talked to my doctor, they want me to start 120mg a day of Diltiazem. I'm a little nervous about it, but they assured me it's no more potent a medication.
Avatar n tn just found out my son has type 1, he was in the hospital for a week with out of control bs levels of over 500. he works on a sliding scale and carb count for his insulin and gets 15 mg of lantus everynight. i am still having alot of trouble with his high bs at night. i have that stupid fear of giving him to much insulin and then he gets lantus. i guess the ?

1689583 tn?1387752394 t have high blood pressure. I had to reduce the dose while in a study for a similar medication (PI). PIs can increase the amount of blood pressure medication in you if you take a calcium channel blocker like diltiazem.
Avatar m tn I was on tiazac 360mg for a couple of years for high blood pressure.I started having palpitations, skipped beats. The longer I was on it the worse it got. It finally got to where I was having some beats so strong and violent.I told my cardiologist and asked to change medication or a lower dose.He told me to go back to my family doctor who prescribed it originally. As it was 6 weeks to see him, I decided to stop the tiazac. After a few days the symptoms went away.
Avatar m tn I am on 1g twice a day of Metformin, which I understand is already a pretty high dose. I try to avoid high carb/high fat foods entirely, and rarely ever snack. What I understand from my pain management doctor and confirmed by my endocrinologist, is since some of my injuries were not addressed by my surgeries, I remain with chronic pain due to 2 herniated cervical discs.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a thyroid / lymph node dissection for thyroid cancer and continued to be able to loose enough weight to compete in fitness / body-building competitions. Despite a high protein-low carb - low fat diet and appropriate exercise I am now unable to get the leannes I need. I have tried a 6week course of thermogenics which worked (however this is not recommended) for people with thyroid condition and my t4 elevated to above 19 and my TSH no longer remained suppressed.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have been on a high dose Calcium Channel Blocker (245mg a day) for about two months. I was very pleased with the CCB in terms of lowering my high HR driven by permanent AFib. The CCB also seemed to reduce some of the fatigue I was experiencing from a high dose BB (was at 100 mg Metoprolol, now at 50 mg). Then about a week to ten days ago I noticed my left ankle, and on inspection my right ankle and both feet were swollen.
4658567 tn?1364142123 After I started testing blood- 6 times a day, they were still kinda high. Doctor put me on insulin at morning and night.. They were doing really good for a while but the doctor upped my dose Wednesday because they had gotten worse.. From what I can see the last couple days they are still high.. Doctor wants my numbers tomorrow.. My question--- do you think the doctor will induce or try upping my dose again for another week?? I have an induction date for Aug 9..
Avatar f tn Well, it is am opiate which is a systemic vasodilator, opening up blood vessels and increasing oxygenation. A high dose can cause respiratory depression, which can reduce oxygen to the heart and increase the chances for fibrillation (hypoxia being the cause). Thus the answer is probably not in any dose normally prescribed by a physician. In the case of abuse and an overdose, possible.
177337 tn?1310059899 That was too much for me. I was a cranky person. LOL Mostly I use the Diltiazem for multiple PSVT times in a day and chest pain. That slows me down too much. Hope the med helps you. I think it's great.
Avatar f tn I can't speak for the diltiazem, but the dose of Metoprolol is on the low end of the scale. I'm currently on 75mg, and had been as high as 200mg per day. The high end dosages are 400mg. This is not to that you could be adversely affected by your dose level. The best way to take care of your SVT is to eliminate rather than try to supress it. An electrophysiologist can eliminate for good with a cardiac ablation procedure. Have you considered this?
672586 tn?1280933658 Good Day, I would like to ask how long have u taken both the Metoprolol & Norvasc? I was prescribed by my Internist recently Norvasc 2.5 mg with Metoprolol 25 mg. I used to take Metoprolol with Diltiazem CD 120mg 2X /day for almost 2 months but noticed a "burning chest pain" with Diltiazem that's why I stopped using it. But now I'm afraid to take Norvasc, too.
Avatar m tn I'm not sure how long you've been on the Verapamil. I was given Diltiazem, also a CCB, for my heart because I couldn't take Verapamil. When I started the Diltiazem I had a non-stop pounding headache for 2 weeks. It gradually eased off and my body adapted to the med. It probably has something to do with the way the medication works to relax the blood vessels a bit.
Avatar n tn By the above formula, taking one unit of Humalog would drop my bloodsugar by 60 mg/dl. This is way too high. 10 units would put me at a drop of 600. I've take as much as 10 units of humalog with a bloodsugar drop of maybe 40-50 mg/dl. Am I reading this correctly?
Avatar m tn But I feel terrible like sometimes brain fog, cannot sleep except for 3-4 hours a day. I am urinating a lot more which could be my A1c number of 6.4. I am going tomorrow to talk to Nurse practitioner not my doctor cause he's busy. I also had a ultra sound on my bladder cause of increase urination last Friday but Docor has been too busy to give me results..imagine that!
Avatar f tn There is no correct dose of insulin or typical for any person. The correct dose for you is the dose that controls your blood sugar well. Eating a lower carb diet / exercise may also help in reducing how much insulin you need to take. If you are on such a high dose, you may also be dealing with insulin resistance. You may ask your Dr whether you can try an insulin sensitising drug such as metformin.
Avatar f tn I just lost my dog to insulin overdose Sept22. Took my dog to VET for a curve stay. Bg was 584 when admitted, and she was prescribed 35 cc 2times a day.hindsight the records show no facts to base these doses on nothing that says 35 cc 1 time a day would benefit her kkk st alone 70.
Avatar n tn That's a wide range of MG's. I was on Wellbutrin for about 2 years, 150mg and went off about a month ago. The doc said that it was an easy drug to stop.....somewhat, so I guess it's the first time he's been right. I was going back and forth between 75 and 150, and like you, even at that low dose I couldn't tell much appreciable difference. Being it's not a drug to get a high on, obviously it wasn't intentional on your part since there is no benefits that way....
Avatar n tn can you look up in an old log book to see how much you used to take?
1327415 tn?1294057889 paracetamol usually drop your temperature, why did you take such a high dose? are you ill or in extreme pain? the normal dose is 1000mg?
