I know that Metoprolol overdose feeling; dragging, dull, heavy chest pain. At one point, I was up to 200mg. for a month, so I can relate to what you're feeling. I think you have to weigh the significant risks involving ablation and the location of your accessory pathway vs. drug therapy and living with your condition. How often do your events occur? Are you able to convert them yourself by some means; Valsalva, etc.? At 30 years old, time is on your side.
I can tell you that from my experience here on the forum, Diltiazem is seldom mentioned here as treatment for SVT. I think you hear the majority of people are on Metoprolol, followed by Atenolol, Propanolol, then Sotalol all beta blockers. Then comes Verapamil, which is a calcium channel blocker like Diltiazem. Perhaps is has something to do with the nature of how a Class IV anti-arrhythmic affects the cardiovascular system.
I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
I have been prescribed and current taking Diltiazem. I have seen a cardiologist had EKG and all he did was tell me to continue the med. When I asked him if I will have future attacks he said because of my age it is likely.
Is there a treatment that will prevent these attacks from happening again because everything I read indicates strokes follow these attacks? I am not on any blood thinners unless the Diltiazem is one.
Two weeks ago my Cardio doctor changed my medication from Cardizem LA to Diltiazem CD. I know it's the generic brand of Cardizem. Anyway he raised my dosage from 240 mg. to 300 mg. For a whole week I had some terrible side effects. I blacked out once while sitting at my computer and then I came close to blacking out on a daily basis. I also felt off balance. I ended up going to my primary doctor, not for this, but for something else. I guess it was a follow up appointment.
Hi. I've been on these boards a long time. My last failed treatment had to fail because about 9 weeks into the treatment, I developed retinal hemmorhaging. My husband (we've divorced now, but not because of this). He had to do my shot that night into the back of the forearm because I felt so awful. First time, adenosine failed twice to bring down 180+ pulse. Diltiazem given, and worked. Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap.
I have been diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome. I was on diltiazem xt 120mg. I stopped taking the medicine 12 days ago could it still be in my system and be causing slow heart rate 40-45 during th day.
Hi, I'm a 33 year old male, not overweight, not diabetic, I've been dealing with tachycardia for some time now. It comes and goes. I found that 50mg of Metoprolol twice a day would mostly control it, but as a 33 year old man, I began to notice major erection issues since being on it. Talked to my doctor, they want me to start 120mg a day of Diltiazem. I'm a little nervous about it, but they assured me it's no more potent a medication.
I did that with my Diltiazem, changed from bedtime to morning. Most meds have directions for "if you miss taking your medication. . . " So that's what I did; I deliberately missed my bedtime pill and took it in the morning. Mine is only once a day. That means I was late by 12 hours but I had no side effects.
I've never taken Toprol, don't know how often you take yours but most meds stay in the system for "X" number of hours.
