Avatar n tn My 18 year daughter had developed motor tics after taking Wellbutrin for about a month. She's now taking the Wellbutrin 3 times per day at for at total of 300 mgs per day. I have read that Wellbutrin stimulates that same receptors in the brain that Ritalin does. Please write back soon as I have taken her off the Wellbutrin immediately.
Avatar n tn I recently had a chest CT scan regarding a vocal problem. Well it turns out that the findings say "moderate to severe emphysema." I'm a little perplexed because I'm windering what is mentioned in the findings that would lead to that impression? It seems like they jumped over a lot to get there. Here is what it says: TECHNIQUE: Multidetector CT of the chest was performed after the administration of 100 cc of Ultravist 300. 5mm axial reconstructions were acquired.
Avatar n tn Part 2 of 2 On the matter of the vocal tick, I would start by looking for other opinions on the nature of this problem. It is possible that this behavior is not a tick as much as it is a vocal form of stereotypy. On the other hand, there may be post-nasal drip that your son is responding to and the throat-clearing/scratching might be an appropriate response.
Avatar n tn TD involves both vocal and motor tics, so that does not sound like what is going on. He is on the young side to evaluate ADHD, simply because development has not yet had a chance to run its course. Your description indicates that he tends to become overstimulated in some situations and then has a hard time settling himself. Is this simply immaturity or indicative of something else? It's hard to say. You might consider going ahead with an evaluation and see what you make of the feedback.
Avatar f tn I believe it is called stimming..we have an autism forum on Med Help other parents with similar may have input for you on there ..
Avatar f tn Other structural abnormalities like vocal nodules, vocal polyp and sometimes contact ulcers on the vocal cords need to be ruled out with further investigations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I would suggest an ENT evaluation. Singers are prone to vocal fold pathologies. She would want to rule out vocal fold nodules or other problems. She would need a doctor referral to a speech pathologist who provides voice therapy, which offers treatment. There are some articles on good vocal hygiene to try in the meantime.
Avatar m tn This can lead to disorders like laryngitis, vocal nodules, vocal polyp and sometimes contact ulcers on the vocal cords. But these changes are reversible if the causative factors are dealt with. And sometimes voice therapy is helpful. You will need to consult your primary care physician for further evaluation, who may then refer you to an ENT specialist. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I was told by my surgeon that my vocal cord was bruised from pulling during surgery and that the nerve was not cut and when the swelling gones down my cord should start back working it have been 11 months and i still have problems eating and drinking. My voice is weak, hoarse. My ENT doctor performed 2 injections so far this help with choking on food but not my voice. What else can be done?
Avatar m tn In April 2011, I had a total thyroidectomy because of papillary thyroid present on my thyroid and in a few lymph nodes. As of today, the cancer hasn't tried to come back so I should count my blessings for that, but during the surgery, my vocal nerve was severed. The doctor realized his error and attempted to fix the nerve before sewing me back up, but unfortunately the nerve never healed. So I believe it is my left vocal cord that is near 100% paralyzed while my other one works perfectly.
Avatar n tn My allergist is suggesting I have a rhinoscopy for Vocal Cord dysfunction. If I have the surgery, will the vocal cord dysfunction go away or do I still need to get checked and treated for Vocal Cord dysfunction? Not sure if I should consult an ENT and pursue Vocal Cord issues before seeking surgery options.
Avatar m tn Mine is from acid reflux and starts on the rear left vocal cord and extends to between the vocal cords remaining on the left vocal cord. In your practice have many of these turned up cancerous? I am a nonsmoker. I am scheduled for a bispsy and endoscopy on July 21 if it doesnt improve. I am very upset about this ulcer.
Avatar n tn however my doctor also does not feel this is the cause of my vocal cord paralysis. Anyone with similar symptoms?? If so, did your vocal cord return to normal function after surgery. Any input appreciated.
Avatar n tn I also lost my voice for 6 weeks after TT because my vocal cord was paralyzed. It came back without any intervention. Your doctor (ENT) can do an examination to see if the vocal cord is moving. My ENT took a wait and see approach, and it worked itself out.
Avatar m tn Can this also be a symptom of Vocal Cord Dysfunction? My throat usually gets tight just before, and suddenly my throat (vocal cords) close up for a short moment. I can there after breath normally. It isn't something that scares me, but it's very irritating and frustrating not knowing what it is and what causes it. Thank you! God bless!
Avatar f tn I'd love to hear from others regarding their experience with gel foam injections to bring paralyzed vocal cord midline. I had a thyroidectomy about a month ago and can't speak above a whisper. Do the risks outweigh the temporary restoration of voice? Is it harmful to whisper? Has anyone tried vocal therapy? What did you do? So many questions, I know, but I'm desperately looking for answers and hope.
Avatar m tn I have now severe problems with breathing and my vocal chords are so inflammed I have difficulty even walking upstairs. Two specialists have suggested that due to the surgery ( 6 hours) my vocal chords may be paralised but it is too early to tell at the moment. If I stop breathing due to the closing of the chords I can be in serious trouble.. Has anybody been there and come through this??? Very worried, and scared at times.
Avatar f tn I am right there with you....I had a TT in July and after two months, my supposed "temporary" voice disruption never went away..neither did my swallowing and breathing difficulty. I knocked on every medical door and no one would tell me anthing but, "it is nothing, it will go away" so 5 months now later, I still struggle to talk, swallow and breathe at times. I have gone to two ENTs who have both diagnosed me with "vocal paralysis/ paresis...
Avatar f tn Your vocal cords could resume as well. I had a paralyzed vocal cord for 6 weeks. I would go for injection of the vocal cord just to avoid further surgery. Good luck, it sounds like you are having a rough time.
Avatar n tn If a doctor saw your vocal chords and saw a bening mass that means is a vocal granuloma, check it out. According to research Ive done that mass is very hard to heal and might take many months. I think in your case since you use your vocal chords as you have children like I do, it is almost impossible to heal. I think thats what I have too. I have episodes of vocal tension where one side becomes heavy and sometimes it hurts to speak.
Avatar f tn I had a total thyroidectomy 2-1/2 weeks ago and my voice is still a whisper. At my one week follow-up appointment, a laryngoscopy revealed the right side of my vocal cords wasn't functioning. My dr said the nerves weren't cut during the surgery. Parathyroid glands are functioning well according to blood work. I do have some slight numbness in my chin to neck area. I would love to hear from others who have been through this.
Avatar f tn HAD THYROID SURGERY 2-18-08 TO REMOVE RIGHT SIDE,HAVE HAD CHRONIC HOARSENESS SINCE SURGERY.ENT TOLD ME LAST WEEK THE RIGHT VOCAL CORD IS NOT MOVING,HE SAID THE NERVE HAD NOT BEEN CUT.ONLY TIME WILL TELL IF IT WILL START WORKING.ALSO HAVE ALOT OF SCAR TISSUE AROUND INCISION.ENT TOLD ME TO MESSAGE IT ALOT TO HELP BREAK IT UP.
