Diflucan for yeast overgrowth

Common Questions and Answers about Diflucan for yeast overgrowth

diflucan

Avatar m tn What is the usual dosage for treatment of toenail fungus with Diflucan? My doctor prescribed it to me and it just seems to be different than normal. He said to take 100 mg/daily for the first 10 days of each month until it's gone. Is that a normal regimen?
1070570 tn?1283436213 ve been feeling really badly for the past 3 months and my doctor has just decided to treat me for possible yeast overgrowth based on the recurring sinusitis, vaginal infections, white tongue, etc that I have. His treatment is10 weeks long beginning with a yeast free diet then starting Nistatin Powder, and starting Diflucan on the 4th week, so that I'll be on the Diflucan for 6 weeks total and the Nistatin 10 wks. Has anyone had any success with this type of treatment?
Avatar f tn No pain with these symptoms, but all things that go into having some sort of yeast overgrowth. It’s just upsetting because it feels like something is happening from the inside out but I don’t know what it would be. I was just curious on what all I could do, given that the prescription didn’t work and it may be more than just on my skin. I feel at a loss and don’t know if it is possibly something with my gut or hormones.
Avatar f tn The ob/gyn can swab you for yeast and tell you if you have an overgrowth during an appointment. They go look under a microscope. Diflucan is my preferred treatment, but they also make creams and suppositories to use. Antibiotics often cause rebound yeast infections, because they kill off bacteria in the vagina, allowing the natural yeast to overgrow. And sex with a yeast infection can cause abrasions and a bit of bleeding.
Avatar m tn I saw a doctor who deals with yeast overgrowth who has given me nystatin and diflucan to try. I am giving it a go, but i am a little skeptical seems there is so much controversy over whether yeast overgrowth really exists. I am losing hope and i don't know where to turn next. I feel spaced out all the time, and it is really ruining my life. Anyone have a similar experience?
Avatar m tn Hello, Last October i had really bad digestive issues. Bloating/constipation and gas. I tried every single over the counter remedy, and nothing worked. Fast forward to December, and i found out i was pregnant. I started to feel a bit spaced out, it felt like i was extremely high. It would come and go, along with some headaches every couple of days, which with a little tylenol would be gone. This went away after a few weeks, and then a week later i miscarried.
Avatar f tn dude i have the same thing wrong with me lol it ***** it feels nasty and looks ewww it is a yeast infection i no that much but i dont no how to get rid of it that is what im trying to find out to
Avatar f tn It is very common to get thrush after antibiotics as they kill off all the good bacteria and allow there to be an overgrowth of Candida (the yeast that causes thrush).

Avatar f tn The type of discharge you are describing can be physiologic (normal) OR could be a sign of an overgrowth of yeast. If it is yeast--it is easy to treat with Diflucan. Ask your doctor to check it out for you. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I would recommend that you google candida, it is basically an overgrowth of yeast. A "yeast infection" is typically experienced by women in their vagina, however yeast can also be present and cause problems all over the body (male or female) and this is more typically called candida. It can and does cause fatigue and very pronounced symptoms. Many of the symptoms are the same as many of the CFS/Fibro symptoms. It is definitely worth looking into.
Avatar f tn I always get a yeast infection when taking the antibiotics that I have to get a RX for DIFLUCAN to help combat it. The imbalance can also cause reflux. Ask ur Dr about a probiotic and if it may help u.
Avatar m tn yes, we have good bacteria in our body. The good bacteria is responsible for keeping the overgrowth of yeast from growing. When you kill it off, you get a yeast infection. So, it's hard. You need the bad bacteria of the BV gone but then develop yeast. So, I'd talk to your doctor about treating in succession. Go with the heavy med to rid yourself of the BV and as you complete treatment, begin difulucan for the yeast. One after the other.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the forum. Thank you so much for your question, it's a good one. There is a correlation between yeast infections and diabetes that is documented. If you have too much sugar circulating which is part of type 2 diabetes, sugars link to yeast overgrowth would then come into play. https://www.webmd.
Avatar f tn Some women (a lot of us) will get yeast infections because antibiotics will kill our normal vaginal flora. So if your doctor knows you he will often prescribe a medication for yeast infection at the same time. If you are discovering this now, you may want to keep it in mind if you have to use antibiotics again. As specialmom said, "Diflucan" is a good one for me, but your doctor will be the best one to give you a good treatment for the yeast infection.
Avatar f tn I would always use a condom. But you likely got another yeast overgrowth situation after taking the antibiotic for the bv.
Avatar f tn Have you explored the possibility of yeast overgrowth (candidiasis) in your body? Given your symptoms, sounds like that could be what you're dealing with right now. Antibiotics would make it worse. A low-carb diet and anti-fungals should take care of the problem... Conventional doctors are really bad at diagnosing it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Our ph can become unbalanced in our vagina and yeast overgrowth results. Good times. Itching, little bit thicker (sometimes) discharge (but not always as I had thin discharge and a yeast infection before), some irritation, are hallmark signs. That it doesn't smell fits as well. When it smells, it is normally bacterial and that requires antibiotics. This just requires yeast treatment. You have two options.
2118271 tn?1337463104 I have been on antibiotics about 5 times in a year, and also recently recovered from C. Diff. Has any one experienced candida overgrowth or yeast overgrowth? I am more than sure that I am dealing with this and I am taking a supplement, which is helping. The thing is, I read about it all over the internet but would really like to connect with someone who has actually had or been through it. I feel very alone with my struggle against it. Thanks!
Avatar f tn There is an oral pill called Diflucan that you could take - one dose or two is all they give you, but it can be hard on your liver so take steps to get rid of the yeast overgrowth once and for all. Wash towels, underwear and socks in hot water and detergent with about 1/2 cup of baking soda each load. Dry thoroughly. You can look into using probiotics, tea tree oil topically, cranberries (but not sugar) Coconut oil, nigella sativa, garlic ...
Avatar m tn Have you been checked for a hiatal hernia? How about candida overgrowth? (This is a yeast, not a bacteria). When your stomach can tolerate it, you can try drinking a yogurt drink called kefir. It has lots of probiotics that are beneficial for digestion. If you do have candida overgrowth, you may initially feel worse after drinking it, because it could cause the yeast to die off and make you feel nauseated. But read up on this condition and see if it sounds possible.
Avatar f tn she put me on Augmentin for ten days then start a yeast cream after 3 days and a diflucan pill also ..we will see what this does..
Avatar f tn I have a yeast infection on my,I have taken meds for,but can't seen to get rid of it. I had 3 atacks of pain upper right side. I waited 9weeks to go to Dr. I didn't have INSURENCE. They said I had mild gastritis. Never mind the pain. I seem to be having a lot of little infection.Whent to the dentist 5days ago and got an abcess were I got the shot. These things have got to be related!
6402846 tn?1391063748 I'm beginning to wonder if maybe I have a yeast infection going on. For the past 2 weeks, I've had some pretty bad days with my main symptom, which is pain in my legs. It hasn't been this bad ever, or at least since I got sick 4 months ago. I'm trying to figure out what the heck is going on, since this symptom usually doesn't get too out of control, and I've read yeast overgrowth can make lyme symptoms worse. I'm also consistently getting weak poops...
Avatar f tn I took 3 day Monistat and the symptoms went from urgency/frequency of urination to just urethral burning. I then became convinced I had an overgrowth of candida in my system (I have had yeast infections countless times since my teens, not to mention BV, my tongue is always white and furry, I cough up small white chunks sometimes and often have a bad taste in my mouth) so I convinced the clinic doc to give me Diflucan. She gave me one pill which helped, but it wasn't enough.
Avatar n tn I am currently being treated with Diflucan and Cipro for an existing yeast problem. I am taking Diflucan for 30 days and Cipro for 10 days. This will give me some relief for about three or four months and then I will need to treat the problem again. Questions: Should I change the Diflucan/Cipro time schedule or try different drugs? Any other suggestion would be very much appreciated. I should note that I take enzymes with each meal (Digest Gold and Fenol) Thanks for any help, Sam.
Avatar f tn Sounds like he was trying to make you better. The flagyl would be for bacterial vaginosis. The diflucan for a yeast infection. Zithromax is commonly given chlamydia among other things (which you had symptoms of from your description). YOU wanted him to diagnose you but that includes swabbing you and sending it to be looked at to get a direct determination. this is not medical malpractice in any way hon.
Avatar f tn I have had this same problem for years also and recently figured something that makes it heal and something that is causes it to come back. Diflucan will heal the split. I take three 200mg pills one a day for 3 days. Depending on how large the split is, or how long you've had it, you may need more but, you'll see it helping by the third day for sure! ( you'll have to ask your doc for the script) Don't put neopsorin on it! Put a little Lotrimin or Lamisil dabbed on a q-tip.
