Avatar n tn My daughter has been batteling UTI's for 2 years now. I am at my wits end with the doctors but it is hard to switch because there are no other pediatric nephrologists/urologists unless we drive almost 2 hours. We are already traveling 1 hour. It all started 2 years ago, She had about 8-9 Uti's within a 15 month period. She was given every type of antibiotic- bactrum, macrobid, macrodantin ect, ect. Always the same result, the infection would return within a month or so.

Avatar f tn I have very similar symptoms, unexplainable by medical profession and have been looking into the link between the effect of antibiotics and long term medication on the central nervous system and also levels of mercury in the body. In my case i feel there is a definate link.
Avatar n tn The antibiotics in the penicillin family can cause vaginal yeast infections and diarrhea in women by affecting the normal vaginal and colon bacteria. The better drug would be macrodantin 100mg at night if your cultures are sensitive to it. Long term cipro is also not good because it will cause antibiotic resistent bacteria to eventually grow. Since you are structurally normal and there is no obvious focus of infection long term antibiotic suppression may be your only answer.
Avatar f tn Hi.. has anyone else taken macrobid for uti?? Is it normal to feel horribly sick with it? How did you all deal with the nausea? My doc gave me reglan but it doesn't seem to be helping and I'm hardly half way with macrobid.. I've been non functional while taking it and it's getting worse every day. Any advise on dealing with it will be appreciated..
Avatar f tn Thanks! That has definitely given a little more insight to the condition. So far I have been having more good days than had days and it's now been about 10 days since the completion of the macrodantin and while pain is little to none I do still notice some occasionally. More so if I have consumed any liquids that aren't water or juice. I was able to get an approval for a specialist and am eagerly awaiting October 7th.
Avatar f tn I am 16 wks. pregnant and my OB prescribed Macrobid for UTI, i had urinalysis and small amount of blood was noted. I told my OB that my urologist said that im always will have blood in my urine beacuse of hx. of cyst in my kidney so I requested to have urine culture prior to taking Macrobid, my OB is insistant to start the med. since it is going to take awhile for culture results to come back. so im already in my 4rt day of the meds.
Avatar f tn I woke up on thursday morning with a sore throat and a cough, on Friday morning i noticed a rash on my face and it is still there. Has any one had a reaction like this?
1916845 tn?1322424822 When I was 21 I had a UTI and was prescribed Macrodantin and it was discovered 1 week later that I had G6PD Deficiency. I was hospitalized in very serious condition. I was anemic and it was getting worse, my bilirubin was way high, I was jaundiced, I had weight loss, fever, and I eventually had a couple of seizures. Two years ago I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis after having a chest cold that just would not go away.
Avatar f tn Importantly, differences between subtype 1a and 1b (by far the most frequently encountered genotype 1 subtypes in clinical practice) include different efficacies of antiviral drugs and different resistance profiles to such drugs. Indeed, several HCV inhibitors appear to have selective activity against different HCV genotype 1 subtypes, both in vitro and in vivo....

Avatar n tn One medication may have been developed first and others later that are somewhat similar chemically and in the same chemical family but they may be completely different medications. I take Methocarb and that is prescribed for me to control dystonic spasms. It is an anti spasmodic. Meprobamate is an anti anxiety medication. Any of these medications can be prescribed for other purposes as determined by a doctor or psychiatrist or other treating professional.
Avatar f tn I tried similac and it didnt sit well with them. I know a lot of moms who used similac and were good with it.

1279758 tn?1282813393 brand names; Macrobid, Furadantin, Macrodantin, Nitro Macro and Urantoin. A full course is seven days. Otherwise you will have to take a combination of antibiotics of lower sensitivity as prescribed. Nitrofurantoin is contraindicated if you have kidney problems. First please ask the doctor who is treating you and then start this. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar f tn In a case of yeast in the genitals, over the counter products like Monistat and canesten work well and you will begin to notice a difference after about one week. For the bowel, you need to eat a lot of yhogurt, as well as acidohilis. You might even need to get prescription from a doctor. In the case of oral trush a prescription is needed as I'm not aware of over the counter products. One product used if I have it correct is Diflucan (not sure about the spelling.
