Avatar f tn People came pouring in, with their condolences, with food, and with advice that was definately not wanted at that point and time. You have to eat, you have to get some rest, or my personal favorite, you have to stop grieving and take care of your mom. To this day I struggle with my feelings for person who had the gall to say that to me. It was five days before we would have the funeral, and people were everywhere. I wanted so bad just to scream at them go home and leave us alone.
884235 tn?1284981868 I felt sure that she was on the verge of low blood sugar, so fed her. She didn't eat much, then went to lay down. A little while later she came back and ate almost all of her food, then I gave her her insulin shot. She still wasn't herself, but better than she had been. About a half hour later she came out to the living room and was back to her normal self.

Avatar n tn No it will not. Diabetes IS un-controlled BG . You have to control your BG. Carbohydrates raise BG...ALL carbs raise BG. exercise lowers BG drugs lower BG (I mean diabetic drugs not the ones fun to take) eat less carbs have less BG rise.
885961 tn?1249583403 It was very hard but I am finding that I dont miss the carbohydrates as much. I never thought I could eat a meal without having bread. I also never thought I could stop eating Pasta at least 1-2 times a week but I have really got this under control. I just need to keep it up. My last visit at the doctor was great, she was very impressed with my number for my A1C. She said the number was better than someone without diabetes. So I feel great.
Avatar n tn Is anyone reading this a Type 1 living alone? How do you deal with this risk? Have you found resources where, for example, a network of Type 1s living alone call each other to check on welfare? Or are there medical support services that do this? Or ????
Avatar f tn You'd be surprised at the variety of foods you can eat while being a diabetic. Only thing...you just can't have too much of it. So, start smiling and start living! This can be the beginning of newer, healthier you! Good luck!
Avatar f tn Being pre-diabetic is the perfect time to prevent yourself from developing diabetes thru diet and exercise. Your doctor should have suggested this first before putting you on medication. Even once you become diabetic...diet and exercise is very important. If your numbers are high on medication, I doubt they will improve when off the medication.
Avatar n tn I've been smoking reefer since 1969 and have had no ill effects from it. I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and continue to smoke. over th e years I've learned to dicipline my self well enough that now that i am diabetic and have to watch what I eat when I get the "munchies" i'm still careful about what and how much I eat. As to the legality well I just use discretion. I don't sell it, I don't give it to minors and basically just keep it to my self.
1666434 tn?1325265950 I thought it might be helpful if we made a thread that shared some of your favorite diabetic safe recipes. This can just be something you make yourself all the time or a recipe you converted to be safe.
Avatar n tn Hi, It's really great to hear of all these long living diabetic people. I'm 50 and was diagnosed type 1 when I was 17. So far I have nearly always worked full time - earlier as a nurse and more recently as a primary teacher. I have one beautiful daughter now 19 and I suppose that's why I asked the question of life expectancy. She is at uni and plans to be a Lawyer so lots more years before grand children.
Avatar f tn Hello. Just a question, what can I feed my diabetic min-pin that is home cooked? She will not eat any kind of dog food, this is how she got the pancreatitis that caused the diabetes. My vet is of no help, she said that if she won't eat the RX dog foods then just give her white meat chicken, boiled only and brocolli or green beans. That's it and I know that my dog is not getting enough nutrients from this diet. She was diagnosed in May of 2006 at the age of 5.
Avatar f tn Now he has just discovered that he's also diabetic, so he started taking metformin. Can anymore offer a little help, perhaps someone with similar experience. Do you think medication is the really he is now diabetic? he was not diabetic even 8 months ago, so what just happened.

Avatar n tn what is the BG level at which the brain struggles to function properly and at which point I may just fall down without getting a chance to test my blood and eat some lollies? I live on my own and am scared that my brain is becoming conditioned to the occasional low BG reading and one day I will have another epileptic fit (due to severe hypoglycemia; I am not epileptic) and possibly fall into a coma. Q2.
Avatar n tn I find myself getting really tired sometimes when I eat, I just feel horribly drained and can barely keep my eyes open, most times I can't fight it and end up taking a nap. It's getting to the point where some days I'm in bed more than I'm awake, which I know is obviously not good for me. I find it usually happens when I eat pasta or soup with crackers, so I'm guessing it's sugar/carbs related.
Avatar f tn I've not eaten properly in months if much at all, then this past month the most I'll eat in a day is a couple of aero chocolate bars. I've developed a massive fear of eating for the obvious reasons. I get pains under my left rib, short sharp spasms throughout my stomach, in my chest, and even in my throat. I've also been getting a nauseated feeling in my central upper abdomen, as well as rumblings and gurglings, or even growlings at times.
Avatar n tn I am looking for some serious help. I am a diabetic I have had this since I was 4 years old I will be 25 on the 24th of May. Avatar m tn My mom laughed when I told her I should eat oatmeal - I haven't eaten that since I moved out 25 years ago. I will eat it this week for breakfast. I find that rhubarb is an excellent fruit for me. I use a diabetic aid - glucose tablets - when I think I am getting too much fructose but it doesn't seem to touch onions or garlic. My dad has celiac disease and I am lactose intolerant.
Avatar n tn I gave up and have been living with this ever since. It has progressed to the point where my family physician suggested I try a local neurologist. He performed a EMG and some other sensory tests. He told me I have axonal nerve damage and have lost the jerk response in my ankles. He said there was no cure but suggested I get a nerve punch biopsy at the CC. I have three basic questions: 1. Is it possible that I have latent diabetes that does not show up in a blood test. 2.
242516 tn?1368227505 http://www.livescience.com/health/081128-ap-oldest-person.html The oldest person in the world has passed away, at 115, and she had few points of wisdom to share. When asked she said her secret was "more education" although her own education finished with teaching school. Instead, she taught us by her own example: - she stayed active. She was seen pushing others around in her wheelchair in her nursing home. - she stayed with her family.
