Avatar n tn Insulin doesn't make people gain weight, though sometimes people lose weight when initially diagnosed with very high numbers and when their blood sugar gets under control they continue eating the same way and gain weight. Another cause of weight gain in Type 1's is insulin resistance. This is normally a characteristic of Type 2 diabetes, but type 1's who are in the "eat whatever you want and bolus for it" school of diet will both gain weight and develop IR.
Avatar n tn Hi...I am not a doctor, but I pretty much know everything about Type 1 Diabetes. I am a Type 1 Diabetic and am now 34 years old. I have two little ones as well (4 year old girl and 21 month old boy). My biggest fear is for one of them to get my Disease. I have had extensive conversations with my Endocronologist (She is one of my closest friends), so I know she tells me stuff “off the record”.
Avatar f tn Hello Everyone, I just had a quick question concerning weight loss for a Type 1 Diabetic. I have been on Adkins for a month now eating 20 carbs total a day. As a result I am taking a significantly lower dose of Novolog than I use too (I am also on Lantus). I am very close monitoring my levels when taking in such a low amount of carbs, but even with this close diet I have lost no weight. I have been a diabetic for 8 years and as a result I have gained roughly 30 pounds.
Avatar n tn The genetic factor (family history) is higher the type 1, especially occur in obese patient, Insulin does not need in the beginning but eventually may need if sugar is not controled.
Avatar f tn I'm 40 with Type 1 since I was 1. I love my Nintendo Wii Fit. I'm in the house in case I go low or I'm high and need to monitor. I can stop and no one stares at me.They have yoga and the basic sports packet that comes with the Ninteno system can get your heart pumping. Since you have to stay in front of the TV there isn't a ton of leg work. Swimming or even kicking in a jacuzzi is good but a hassle but it also gets the pressure off the legs.
Avatar f tn She might need Atkins. But I wouldn't do that diet unless the doctor ok's it because of her type 1 diabetes. Gluten, which is in wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats, might be something for her to eliminate. It helped my daughter lose weight - and she never overate to begin with. Hang in there!
Avatar f tn you cant lose weight if you aren't on an insulin pump 5. weight loss for people with type 1 diabetes takes WAY longer than for people without it. If anybody could clear up these rumors or give me any advice that would be fantastic! Thanks so much for your time!
Avatar f tn It was tested evening time.whats the risk and what diet he need to follow? is it type 1 or type 2.what fruits can he able to eat?can he eat brown rice or wild rice?
Avatar m tn Many people talk about their success with weight loss, diabetes, pain, etc. I have personally lost fat, controlled my blood sugar and feel better by following the suggestions there.
Avatar f tn sorry but i feel you have missed what i was trying to get across, perhaps i didnt write clearly enough, this child is anorexic and certainly does not need further diet and weight loss tips! this is an illness as much as her diabetes is, she is frequently told by docs that she wiil not survive, let alone also being told of the complications she faces, she cannot take it on board.this is so disheartening and makes me feel even more isolated than i did previously,no one understands.
Avatar m tn I AM A 74 YR OLD RETIRED MALE (6'2"- 200 LB- ACTIVE). I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES LAST FALL. I LOST 25 LBS AND MONITER MY DIET & ACTIVITIES TO HELP MY DISEASE. MY LAST CHECK-UP LAST MONTH WAS VERY GOOD. I TAKE 1 TABLET OF METFORMIN 500MG DAILY AS MAINTENANCE. MY PROBLEM IS THAT MY FEET TINGLE WHEN I AM ON THEM DURING THE DAY TO THE POINT OF FEELING ACHY. WHEN I AM OFF THEM AT NIGHT THE TINGLING SUBSIDES. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON THIS SITUATION FOR ME?
Avatar n tn If the diabetics in your company do not know how to properly treat their diabetes with diet, weight control, exercise and regular testing they are putting themselves at risk. Obesity makes diabetes harder to control and a type 2 diabetic who is overweight should be working with their doctor and nutritionist to develop a strategy for healthy weight loss. Do you know whether your diabetics are all Type 2 or if some of them are Type 1? It makes a difference in treatment.
Avatar f tn Some people with Diabetes Type 2 need oral medications and others need insulin. (Type 2 diabetes means they don't produce enough insulin. Type 1 means they don't produce ANY insulin.
Avatar n tn died I thought I'd lost 10kg weight over two months thru grief! but no it was Type 1 diabetes....apart from still being grief stricken I find it so hard to keep my blood sugars in control from 2.3 up to 20's.. I'm not a big eater anyway and quite honestly I'm sick of food completely and worrying about everything I put in my mouth will do to me. I don't know if I feel depressed thru trying to keep my blood sugars in right range or thru the death of my best mate!
Avatar f tn Hi I am new to this site, I have MS, Sarcoidosis, and have been diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 due to high dose Prednisone use My questions is, Diet.
Avatar n tn Markie is also correct that we still do not know enough about how type 1 happens. Probably type 2 as well. We do know that obesity can diffently cause type 2, while you will find type 1's, upon diagnoses usually experience weight loss and is not associated with obesity in any way that I have ever heard of. There have been recent studies that have created a gray area between the two regarding age and developing diabetes.
Avatar n tn i have diabetes type 1 and am trying to loose a few extra pounds. i'm not exactly sure how to do this since i have to eat carbs, i suppose i could talk to my doctor and lower my dose to eat less carbs, but is there an easier way?
Avatar f tn That’s ok. For example, Weight Watchers is based on a healthy diet and has great support to loss weight. Do walking with a friend (maybe during lunch at work) and the time will goes by quick. Join a gym, do yoga, or an exercise group, such as “Curves”, or do dance lessons. All these activities are with people. Have fun and enjoy so it becomes a life change.
Avatar n tn I also wanted to ask what is considered excessive with the drinking and going to the bathroom symptoms. I read about this symptom in everything about type 1 but nothing says "how much" would be considered excessive. I wanted to add these things to my last post but the number of characters for the message wouldn't permit. Some other symptoms that my daughter has are dry chapped lips (all the time....
Avatar m tn The only treatment for type 2 diabetes is weight loss, lowering carbs in your diet, exercise and medication as prescribed by a REAL doctor.
