Tbd Both Dr Mark Hyman MD and Neal Bernard claim plant based eating will reverse diabetes. That is both type 1 and 2. Plus no matter how advanced the diabetes is. Of course the worse the diabetes the more effort is needed. However any degree of the disease can be reversed with this type of eating.

Avatar f tn I was on insulin a few months ago, and when I transitioned to Vegetarian diet, I started needing my insulin dosage lowered, then I went full Vegan and I no longer need Insulin now, I am diet controlled. What nutritional need would a Diabetic need when becoming a Vegan?
Avatar f tn I recently was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, will I ever be able to eat whatever I want again? If so, how long do you think that will be, I miss my chocolate!!
Avatar m tn I have recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, my fasting blood sugar was 175. I am sure that these are on the higher side of the scale. My doctor adviced me to go retest after 2 weeks of exercise and strict diet control. Hence i completely changed my diet, no sugar, substantial decrease of carbs, relying on vegetables and sprouts or protein contents with additon to the 5-6 KM of walking. After two weeks when i went on re test, it was 140 on fasting. I have not used any medicine.
307500 tn?1302116146 The clusters of autoimmune disorders would make me vote for type 1 diabetes like your doctor thinks. My twin has adrenal problems along with type 1, although I don't have the adrenal issues. But all of the endocrinologists I have seen have always tested for other endocrine disorders when the do annual blood tests because so many type 1 folks do have thyroid problems. Adrenal problems are rarer, but also more common among type 1 patients than among other patients from what I have read.
Avatar n tn Do you have Type 1 Diabetes or Type 2?
Avatar m tn Your father needs to work on this. Medication may be necessary. Is your dad type 1 diabetes (genetic and shows up earlier in life) or type 2 (lifestyle issues that shows up later in life)? We'll start there.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes for several years. The diet is the same diet recommended for Type 1 diabetes. Your doctor or The ADA can give you a copy of the recommended diet. The difference in the diet for Type 2 is that you do not have to eat on such a strict schedule. Please be careful to check your blood sugars often. You should not have more than 3 servings of carbs per meal as recommended by the ADA.
Avatar n tn Hi Dalki, Yes, in time your doctor will likely know for sure which type of diabetes you have. In addition to Type 1 and Type 2, there seems to be a type 1.5 ... tho' there's some thought that 1.5s are just in the early stages of Type 1. We DMers (folks with diabetes mellitis) and our docs often call that a honeymoon phase. I hope you're feeling better now that your bloodsugar has begun to come down. Things may remain volatile for a while, so try to be patient with yourself.
Avatar m tn I know you are finding it hard to avoid temptation and break old habits. You gotta say goodbye to that old girlfriend. Once you have, it becomes easy. Yeah, it is not that easy at first but if you can lay fences all day you can do this, including halting your binge eating. Binging is more of an impulsive reaction than a need. A big difference between I need to eat and I want to eat that.
Avatar n tn t eat candies, cakes, etc, she will still have spikes with foods loaded in carbs like white breads, white pasta, some fruits that are naturally loaded in sugar like grapes, for example. Her family should watch for her diet and include whole grains instead of white flour, fruits that are low in natural sugar, check her blood sugar often and the most important thing: have a talk to a diabetes educator.
Avatar f tn 1. Can I consume soy products? Is it suggested to consume soy products thrice every week. (I'm not sure about this. Somewhere I have read that soy has protein and for PCOS one should combine carbohydrate with protein, so it is good to have soy products. I have also read soy has phytoestrogen (estrogenic activity) so it will add to the already elevated levels of estrogen in the body of a PCOS sufferer, so it should be avoided.
3060903 tn?1398565123 I'm reversing my diabetes type II with diet and exercise. I'm doing well but I need to know one thing about good fat versus bad fat. I take it that ie. walnuts olives etc. have good fat and ie. cream vegetable oil have bad fat. What exactly does the good versus bad fat affect on your blood work? ie. will good fat raise lower or raise tryglycerides? Thank you so much.
Avatar n tn Dear ozark, Please don't apologise for conacting us, even if this is mainly a type 1 diabetes forum. When it comes to nutrition issues, the diet is basically the same. Jdrf team jhg is correct and I do hope your mother is seeing an endo and a nutritionist. They can be your mom's best chance to stablize her blood sugars. Let us know how she is doing.
Avatar f tn Want to transition to a vegetarian diet! I am a type1 diabetic for 36yrs and this disease degenerates. What supplementation should I embark to maintain a balance nutritious way to eat?
Avatar f tn JDRF has the new toolkit for free for Pregnancy and type 1. You should get one. It is full of great info. here is the link: http://jdrf.
Avatar f tn Many times a Type 2 Diabetic will be treated as a Type 1 (on the same medications etc) but will not actually BE a Type 1. Reason being the treatments for a Type 1 are also effective on a Type 2 if that severity of treatment is needed. It is believed that Type 2 can be prevented or delayed in its onset by proper diet and exercise just like you would do if you actually had Type 2. As far as I know there is no way to prevent Type 1.
1053848 tn?1254002462 You might have to really push your doctor to do the tests (or refer you to an endo). I don't know where you live, but LADA/Type 1.5 isn't officially recognized by the ADA yet. I too love cooking fresh and healthy foods, though as a vegetarian I've had to really work at altering my diet for diabetes. Just gave me a new challenge to my creativity! Type 1 and 1.
Avatar f tn According to the American Diabetes Association, the best food choice for people with type 1 diabetes is whole grains. Whole grains can help people with type 1 diabetes control blood sugar and lose weight, making blood sugar management more effective.
