His book is "Diabetes Solutions", and he has a lot of information on U-tube at Bernstein Diabetes University. Dr B recommends about 30g of carbs per day - but this also depends on your tolerance, which you determine using your blood sugar meter.
Avatar f tn Hello! I am a Type 1 Diabetic, 28 year old woman, and was diagnosed when I was 9. I have always tried to keep on top of my blood sugars, and have maintained a Hemoglobin A1C of 6 or below for years, using a combination of Lantus and Humalog injections. Currently, I take 15 units of Lantus, and Humalog on a sliding scale.
Avatar n tn I am not a physican, but the mom of a type 1 diabetic and the daughter of a type 2. I have a cholesterol problem. I can tell you that my daughter doctor does check her constantly for high cholesterol, one when I questioned him about it he told me that food is only a factor 50% of the time. High cholesterol can be hereditary. When was told I had high cholesterol, my doctor wanted to but me on pills, i was not good at talking them, so I tried the type of diets you suggest.
Avatar m tn // Paleo diet helps cure MS Anyway....... it is interesting, not proof, per se, but I think some of this may touch on HCV. See what you think. On a second note..... because I noticed it was from my home town, I thought I noticed the name as familiar. Some of you may notice or be able to identify the name Zach Wahls. Tbd Seems to me diabetes is reversible However its very hard to do Eat right, control your weight and exercise. Many doctors strongly recommend a vegan diet, especially Neal Bernard MD.

Avatar m tn I keep thinking this might be a warning sign that I'm NOT doing it right, despite the studies which show that those who follow a low-fat vegan diet develop diabetes at 1/2 the rate of those who don't, and despite the results of a Pritikin-style diet, which I currently follow. Can anyone offer any advice? I'm working on losing weight, and would even sacrifice my veganism (temporarily) for its sake, since I'm definitely an "Apple", and must lose the weight around my waist.
1734735 tn?1413781671 Hey, I think if you read the study it does specifically mentions the type of diet that was followed. In terms of disability, the study uses a medically accepted tool in which the patients level of disability is approx 11% better after 1 year and 20% better after 5 years. I guess we have to agree to disagree about the objective evidence because it conforms to current research standards, otherwise would not have been allowed to be published.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I'm a 56 year old female and I was diagnosed a few months ago with type II. Not too bad. AC1 of 6.4. Doc says if I lose weight and change lifestyle I can probably be diabetes free. Lost 17 lbs. Last AC1 was still 6.3. Was cheating a lot with candy and sugary stuff. So he put me on Metformin 500mg 2x a day. I have to say that taking that did make me feel a lot better.
Avatar n tn It worked good for me. As far as diet I started with the Swank diet but think the Paleo Diet has shown more success in threating neurological diseases. As far as the dental thing I had 10 root canals and an assortment of fillings. My gums were bleeding and that was clearly a problem in my case. Everyone must decide this issue for theirself because this is a major decision. I have some information concerning this issue that I will post.

Tbd Type 1 diabetes cannot be reversed. Type 2 can be reversed with diet in many, but not all cases. There are two approaches to diet that may be effective: 1. Low carb, adequate protein, fat for energy balance - otherwise known as ketogenic of low carb diet. In this diet carbs are typically restricted to 30g or less per day. This diet also includes abundant non-starchy, non-sweet vegetables and plant foods. 2. Very low fat, adequate protein, high carb.
Avatar n tn No one here with PCOS? People with Type 1 diabetes can get PCOS. My aunt had type 1, which she developed as a teen and was insulin dependent her entire life, and she also had PCOS. She died at age 58 from heart disease. I too have PCOS, but I have type 2 diabetes. After years of dealing with low blood sugar and many other debilitating symptoms, including fatigue and severe PMS, I became diabetic overnight. I'm sorry to say that there is no cure for PCOS. It can only be treated.
Avatar n tn methods to lower or lessen insulin dependance in Type 1 diabetes. I have read about different vitamins that are out there to lower blood sugar, such as cinnamon[bark}, lipoic acid, evening primose to name a few. But when I ask my daugher's doctor about these "remedies" he said it does not help. I have given my daughter Cinnergen which is a cinnamon/cranberry liquid along with other vitamins in it. She has been on it for almost 2 months.
1142059 tn?1261083161 The only treatment for type 1 is insulin and once you have type 1 you are diabetic for life, whatever you eat. Of course, what you eat as a diabetic, is very important and you should follow a healthy, well balanced diet. There is no cure, just insulin treatment and diet to control the condition.
Avatar n tn I know of many thin people (who have never been overweight) who have Type 2 diabetes. In Type 1 diabetes the pancreas does not produce any insulin.
Avatar m tn Anyway, this method also allows far lower fat content than would otherwise be part of this type of diet. Regarding the diabetes risk, I've spoken with doctors about this. Basically they're not fans of veganism, nor are they fans of "meat only". They prefer a more tempered approach, and I think what I've decided on here meet those qualifications. We'll see. My number one goal is responsible weight loss that preserves muscle mass.
Avatar m tn It is characterized by the obligatory occurrence of autoimmune Addison disease in combination with thyroid autoimmune diseases and/or type 1 diabetes mellitus (also known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, or IDDM). Primary hypogonadism, myasthenia gravis, and celiac disease also are commonly observed in this syndrome.
Avatar n tn and weigh 140, which is on the heavy side of normal but still quite normal, and have type 2 diabetes, as did my very thin mother, who was the same height as me but only weighed 112, and my formerly thin brother who for some reason started to put on weight in middle age. I kind of agree with cured4sure? that you might be storing fat in your liver.
Avatar m tn • LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST, a soft/Lightly prepared (Quickly prepared and on slow flame) diet(80% alkaline 20% Acidic mostly vegan) till recovery. We must increase alkaline reserves by having vegetable diet avoiding meat at least during recovery periods. Food at this stage can never be strongly cooked/processed/baked/fried (slow digestion) or acidic (strong Protein, sugar, meat). All type of MEAT to be had in Boiled/Grilled/Steamed form only.
Avatar f tn Would recommend you ask your doctor for antibody tests in case you have autoimmune adult onset type 1 instead of type 2. Regardless, agressive and early treatment is very critical to normalising blood sugars and preventing complications.
Avatar m tn If you want rapid weight loss, whether you eat a ribs-and-burgers diet, or live a vegan lifestyle and carefully balance your vegetable proteins, chances are you need more, especially if you want rapid weight loss. The Recommended Daily Allowance for men is 56 grams a day, and for women it’s 46 grams. That’s about what you’d get in 4 to 5 chicken drumsticks or two large hamburgers. Or 2 ½ pork chops, 15 slices of bacon, or an 8-ounce steak.
Avatar m tn If so get back on your normal diet. I am vegan and low fat but supplement with DHA (algae) not fish and also with ground flax seed. I also just read that eating 4 brazil nuts was done in a study and it lowered cholesterol and bad fat for a whole month. There are no long term studies of this yet but once a month eating 4 brazil nuts can't hurt unless you are allergic to them. Eat lots of whole grains, veggies and you will protein from beans, legumes, tofu, edamame, various healthy options.
Avatar f tn The only way I got it to subside was to start on a vegan diet. Vegan diets reduce inflamation in the body. It worked for me. Eat oatmeal, fruits, and veggies and stay away from meat. The sauturated fat causes inflamation. I know this sounds severe but it worked for me.

Avatar m tn - Having only Soft diet food, avoiding strong/heavy food or food that takes long time to digest and also avoiding food that would require too much acids to be released (proteins). Start with Boiled only food diet for first 1-2 week (No oil/onion) as this is the lightest form of food to stomach.
Avatar n tn During the period of the Ornish diet, I had 3 heart catheterizations. I as well had 2 thallium stresses, where 1 vessel CAD was visualized (3 vessel CAD visualized on cath). I did achieve rather decent METS scores. Some of the plaques decreased, while some increased. My cardiologists do not agree that heart disease will disappear (I see CCF & other high ranked tertiary care center invasive and preventative cardios). There are other critical factors regarding lipids such as Lp(a)/VLDL.
