Depo provera injection site

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera injection site

Avatar f tn It is very difficult to confirm the exact cause leading to this. Even if it was leakage of a few drops of Depovera from the injection site it should not interfere with its contraceptive efficacy. There is no need for a repeat dosage. Stop worrying. It will be best to get your doubts clarified by a local healthcare provider. Do keep us posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn I went off Depo Provera after 2 shots in January. I was supposed to get my injection mid-January but didn't. Now I'm having nausea every day - almost all day long - fatigue, and sleepiness. Mid-March, I had some spotting just for a couple of days, followed by SEVERE breast swelling and pain. Then I had what seemed to be a normal period two weeks ago (5 days long, not very heavy, no cramping).
Avatar n tn I am in a group where all the women are trying to conceive after the depo provera. Many have been trying to conceive for years, and no luck. And it seems like those who do conceive have miscarriages soon after. Its like 80% of the women who get pg have a miscarriage. Is this linked to the depo? Age? Im 22 and am trying to conceive #2. (my son is 6 now) I am so scared that it might happen to me.
Avatar n tn The docotors believe I may have a progesterone problem due to Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 6 years and went off the shot in Sept. Does anyone know if the effects of this shot can linger and cause lower progesterone levels?
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
Avatar n tn Oh, and just as an after thought, I've also had the implant in my arm which did exactly the same as the flipping injection so avoid that aswell if you've had problems with the depo injection.
Avatar n tn I am 19 years old, and just recently become sexually active with my boyfriend, we used protects and have both been tested, so all is good there. Okay... a week ago I got my depo Provera shot... and since then I have been hungry all of the time and have had cravings for anything sweet, saly, greasy, you name it, I've craved it... I also have been feelings nausiated at times... I am having terrible aches in my legs and arms...
Avatar f tn I have a 7mm protrusion coming from my pituitary that in all clinical reality should be called a tumor. There is also a void in my pituitary that was left from "old tumor that out grew it's blood supply". I have been dealing with the railroad spike in the head headaches for years. They are now controlled with medication. I have been experiencing severe joint pain a week before my period and as soon as menstruation starts it is gone. Completely.
202436 tn?1326477933 I wasn't planning on using any birth control after I had Lily, we were just gonna go with natural family planning. Well at my doc appt today he suggested the depo provera shot may help with milk production since I'm having an issue with it due to anemia. I went ahead and got the shot becuase I figured it was worth trying to see if it WILL help AND with the anemia problems right now it's probably best that I elminate as much risk of pregnancy as possible for awhile.
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar f tn I've just turned 18 and I've been using the depo shot for at least 7 months because the pill was making me sick. When I asked my Nurse about depo she just told me about the positives which left me very much in the dark about this contraception.Since starting my shots I have gained 14LBS in just SEVEN months!!I have gone back to the nurse since and explained that my diet and exercise hasn't changed but I'm gaining weight, she wasn't exactly sympathic and insisted I eat less!
Avatar n tn So I have been on Depo-Provera for many years. My last dose was last Tuesday, but I think maybe I was given it...wrong? The nurse seemed very inexperienced to start, but my biggest concerns are how much it hurt when she gave it(it usually barely stings), the fact that some of the solution actually started dripping out of the injection site for a while, and also that there was a big lump in my arm for several days afterward. Now it's a bruise, but no lump. I'm wondering...
384896 tn?1335297931 hmmm... i'd look more in to this: "Dr. Hale also mentions studies that suggest that male infants exposed to early postnatal progestins have ""higher feminine scores,"" as well as studies that refute this finding. He adds that further research is necessary to fully study this possible side effect of these drugs." (http://www.breastfeed.
Avatar n tn I have taken Depo Provera for the past 11 years. I came off of the injection in March 2010. Since stopping Depo, I have gradually seen my weight increase. I am 34 years old and was always around 115-118 while on Depo - since stopping 18 months ago, I have gained approx. 12 pounds. As I am not planning to become pregnant, I am thinking about going back on the injection as I can't seem to shift this extra weight despite my best efforts.
Avatar n tn Depo Provera messes with your hormones and either you can bleed constantly once stopping or not bleed at all. It can take about 12-18 months to get out of your system (however this is not true for everyone, some get pregnant the 1st month they stop the shot). I was bleeding constantly while on the shot and as soon as it was time for me to get my next one I switched to BCP's. My dr said this was fine and it would help my periods become regular after the depo.
Avatar n tn I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before!
Avatar f tn Depot shot is oil based and this can often cause lingering pain at the injection site. Since this is now an old site, try applying local analgesic cream, hot water bag and maybe visit a chiropractor to relieve the tension there. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn I'm 22 and currently have the depo injection every 12 weeks, I've had vaginal bleeding which i'm guessing was a irregular period which has stopped but i'm noticing spots of blood in my underwear sometimes and sometimes wipe blood after I urinate, I have no pain or burn though, should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn i recently got on birth control to prevent getting pregnant because my boyfriend thinks he want a child but i am not ready for that responsibility.I chose depo provera because i knew the pills would be alot of work, and i would forget to take them everyday. when i started i had a period for 2 months straight i thought it was normal but it turns out i was only suppose to spot. my lymp nodes started to swell up to 4 cm. they cause me constant pain.
Avatar n tn // love and hugs...
199373 tn?1270491232 i gave birth dec. 15th, and was pressured by the hospital into receiving a depo-provera shot before leaving on the 18th. i was very unhappy about this, considering i never put any medication into my body w/o reading about it first, but felt as if i had no choice. after reading about this horrible shot, i've learned that it should not be administered until 6 weeks after giving birth, due to the high levels contained in breast milk the first few weeks.
Avatar n tn For the past 2 years I have had chronic pelvic pain which can start either from middle lower abdomal to left or right. I have been on depo injection for the past 9 years so I DO NOT get any periods. I have been to doctor after doctor with most telling me this is all in my head (hey I wish). 4 years ago i had CIN 3 with cone done and no issues sinces as all has been clear. The gynaecological doctor did internal with no results. He did blood work with WBC and CRP levels rasied.
Avatar f tn Sorry for my late reply. I am feeling much better! In March I was given a Depo-Provera shot to help keep the endometriosis from coming back, so that probably caused the spotting. But now I have been on my period for 2 weeks! My first "real" period since surgery. Hoping it stops soon. My internal suture pain is pretty much gone now. Every once in awhile, I will get a sharp pain towards the top of my incision area, but it only lasts a few seconds.
Avatar f tn The fact you say you were on the injection, i'm taking this to be depo-provera, i think your in for a long wait. I was on depo 2 and a half years and have now been off of it the same length of time and have yet to conceive and i blame this contraception 100% for not having conceived. My partner and i have been for tests and all have come back clear, we are now on the IVF waiting list which is up to a 3 year wait.
Avatar f tn A bit like Clareol, but not. I used to have irregular periods and was on depo provera injection up until about 2 years ago. My last period was 16th October, for a week (normal time and duration), not had one since. I have many of the early pregnancy symptoms; nausea (on and off throughout day), running to the toilet more often (5 times today already and it only 11.
1460427 tn?1285777115 I suffer a slow forming anaphylaxis and most of my reactions are internalized effecting my organs and muscles. When I was tested for this condition with depo provera, my reaction was positive but showed no external symptoms, I developed giant painful satellite lesions under my skin that lasted for several days. For years.
Avatar n tn i hope everything goes well for you and that you get everything sorted out with your suspected pregnancy thing but i was wondering what this could be because my nipples have been hurting recently too. its mainly just my left one but my right one doesnt seem to hurt. i am on the depo-provera 3 month contraceptive injection and my last period was sometime in december as the depo prevents periods so that isnt a problem. but i was just worrying what this nipple thing could be..
Avatar n tn I have been having chronic pelvic pain for the last 2 years. I have not had a period for 9 years as I have been on depo injection for the amount of time. I have been from doctor to doctor with most telling me this is all in my head (hey I wish). A gynaecological doctor is finally see me and so far has done pap smear with the result being fine. (4 years ago i had CIN 3 and cone was done, this showed no HPV).
Avatar f tn I'm actually not sure that I'm ovulating at all. Before we started ttc, I went on the depo-provera injection for one year. It stopped my periods (which were regular before that), and I've never gotten them back. I have had a period with provera, and I have had a couple on my own (but they're short - about 3 days). I chart my bbt and it is all over the place. I've been pregnant once, so I have obviously ovulated at least once.
Avatar n tn i have noticed this problem for at least a couple of years and initially my doctor thought it was because i was in depo provera and had abnormal bleeding all the time. i have been on the pill for over 7 months and my periods are back to normal except after this occurrence following orgasm. in april i had an abnormal pap smear that indicated i had HGSIL (high-grade intraepithelial lesions) of the cervix.
