Depo provera in men

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera in men

depo-provera

Avatar n tn My physician at this Clinic told me that Depo Provera is an oil-based drug and it has the potential to stay in your body for the rest of your life. I finally had to have surgery this year to remove the tumors. For the past three years this drug ruined my life. I could no longer exercise because I was always bleeding and severely anemic. I couldn't sleep because I had to use double protection and had to go to change myself every 20-30 minutes throughout the night.

Avatar f tn This med was used and is still used as chemotherapy for Prostate cancer in men, it is not a normal drug and is exactly like what the birth control is supposed to do and does the same in masking the disease. These are just my opinions and I don't mean to scare you but what your doctor has said to you scares me for you and it would be wrong if I didn't speak up. If you need any other questions answered I am here.
Avatar n tn The Depo-Provera is still in your system. It puts your body in a false state of pregnancy, thus the weight gain and bloated abdomen. What ever you do, DO NOT GO BACK ON DEPO PROVERA! There is more weight gain the second time around, and harder to loose. Remember: No Salt,no Sugar,no booze except for occasional red wine (3 Carbs),no fake sugar like splenda, xylotol or any other fake sugar by any name, bread, chocolate, doughnuts, pizza, bagels, carbs including vegetables (yes I said it!
Avatar f tn I had two chocolate cysts that were around 6 cm x 6 cm x 6 cm, the size of a tennis ball. My gynecologist wants me to take depo provera until I am in menopause. I am only 41. I refuse to take it afraid of all the side effects. I agree we are almost made to feel like we HAVE to take it. My surgeon was very forceful about me having to take it. She does not know I never filled the prescription. Not even willing to take Alesse the birth control pill. I am just waiting and seeing.
Avatar f tn I am taking provera 10mg to stop my month long menstrual bleeding which started in feb 2010.. My last period before this was in sep 09 and the bleeding was scanty ( this was also the 1st period after I delivered a baby in april 09).. My question is why is my bleeding not stopping completely on provera although its been 2 weeks i started taking them and the bleeding is moderate during the dayt and light during the night, I am soaking 2 to 3 pads per day ..
Avatar n tn Depo can stay in your system anywhere from 12-24 months...for some people its different so thats not for everyone. Depo messes your body up do it could be a while or it could be tomorrow when you start. I took 2 shots of Depo and then decided to go on BCP and when I stopped the BCP's in Aug 04 I still have not had AF because the Depo is still in my system..I have used Provera twice to make me have AF. You may want to talk to your Dr and see what they think. Best of Luck!
5856747 tn?1403352282 I am a young vibrant woman. I take care of my appearance and I know that men like me, but something has stopped working properly. Please, please help me!” First of all what sticks you about this questioner as odd, or as possibly the root cause of her problem? And secondly, what further information would you like to have before reaching a conclusion and offering some sound advice? Let’s deal with the second question first.
Avatar n tn If you are pregnant your baby is in somewhat in danger by you being injected with the Depo Provera just a couple of months ago. I would make me an appointment at the local clinic or your ob/gyn. Explain to them what is going on. Obviously if your taking the shot you don't want to be pregnant. Your body has to be on a perfect hormonal balance for the egg to implant and survive.
Avatar n tn in the last two weeks i have had three blood vessels just pop in my fingers. i was not doing anything out of the ordinary. what could be causing this? should there be a cause for concern?
Avatar n tn I took Provera for 10 days in an effort to shrink it (I only have one ovary). Yesterday I went in to see my gynocologist because the pain in my ovary started to get worse. She did an exam and said that my ovary feels completely normal now. She doesn't think that I even have the cyst anymore. My question is: why am I still feeling so much pain? It's worse now than it ever was. It feels like there is a rock where my ovary should be and hurts to sneeze/laugh, etc.
Avatar f tn I AM CURRENTLY TAKING PROVERA TO BRING ON MY PERIOD AND THEN GOING TO BE TAKING 150 MG OF CLOMID DAYS 5-9 AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN OFF OF THE DEPO SHOT FOR ALMOST 2 YRS AND MY CYCLE HAS YET TO COME ON ITS OWN SINCE BEING OFF THE SHOT! DID ANYONE HAVE SUCCESS AT 150 MG OF CLOMID?
1000392 tn?1294097512 I've been crying myself to sleep for the past 3 weeks now. This idea of giving endo patients Depo Lupron is a mistake. Who in their right mind would think it's normal to put a 23 year old in menopause?! So now I have to go through menopause not once but twice? Why is it that a doctor can give you 2 options to "cure" the endo... have a baby or get a hysterectomy?! Especially when you've been told that you will not have children. Endo is a slow emotional killer.
Avatar n tn The mini-pill is progesterone based like depo-provera. In fact it is the same thing, only in a daily pill form instead of the longer acting shot.
Avatar f tn Remember doctors are humans too, and sometimes they forget that we are not doctors, and cannot afford some of these costly procedures, especially if they are not needed. I was on Lupron-Depo and Depo-Provera, Lupron is like a pseudo-menopause, some (not all cause we are all different) have night sweats, mood-changes etc. I did not notice such problems and Lupron worked short term for me. However longer term I was on Depo-Provera. It work fine.
Avatar m tn You are such a sweet husband to be writing in worried about your wife!! Its nice to see men so involved in this whole process. First off, yes going off of any hormonal birth control can mess up your cycles. When I came off of Depo Provera, my cycles were all over the map for 2 or 3 months at least. And if you have been using protection, it is unlikely she is pregnant, providing you are using it properly. If she is a week late, there is a small possibility she is pregnant.
Avatar n tn ) Is your new birth control the depo provera shot? That CAUSES irregularity in bleeding. 2.) Even if it's not depo, yes, your body COULD be reacting to the new introduction of hormones. 3.) If you just are recovering from a yeast infection, YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE A TAMPON!!!! YOU CAN CAUSE THE YEAST TO STAY AND MULTIPLY EVEN IF IT'S ALMOST GONE!!!!! 4.
Avatar n tn I began taking Depo Provera in March of 2004 and had my last shot in June of 2004. I began my menstrual cycle in September 25th of 2004. I have been try to have a baby ever since. I wanted to know does that mean that I have began to ovulate and I can now conceive a baby?

Avatar n tn She said for me to take a preggo test with my first morning pee and if it is negative they have called me in some provera to start. What the hell am i going to do if i am pregnant again? She said that periods usually come back by now if I am not breastfeeding. She also said that it didnt mean I was pregnant, but to test just in case. HELP me, what will I do! Do I sound like one of those, "could I be pregnant" posters!
1284894 tn?1272175054 Went to my GP last week and he gave me more oxycontin controlled release,1 every 12 hours and as these are only lasting about 6 hours, he also gave me endone to take in between. I also have to take 2 panadol every 4 hours. I also had my first depo provera shot this week.It was the 4th day of my period and my period was very heavy, but the next day I had only a few spots of bleeding and today it is a little bit of brown spotting.
Avatar n tn Anyway, I went off the pill in May and haven't had AF yet...nothing, not even spotting. 2 months ago, took provera to jumpstart...nothing happened. Dr said I had normal levels, but on the lower end of estrogen, and I needed to stop exercising to get AF. Did that for two months, still nothing. I feel like **** all the time, could put money on AF coming, but chart shows no O, have taken preg tests...still nothing.
Avatar f tn Back before my son when I got depo provera shots I didn't get periods on that either. Most hormonal methods make periods shorter and lighter or eliminate them completely.
Avatar f tn My husbads latest therory is the fact i haven't had a period in like 6 years.. i was on Depo Provera for a long time and now the Nuva Ring.. I use the ring continuously and skip periods.. been doing that for like a year.. My sex drive has been shot for about 3 year or so.. i though it was the pills.. now i have been off but its not any better.. i am gonna get my testoterone checked.. and other hormone levels... I started seeing an acupunturist for this... so far hasn't helped..
Avatar n tn After having my 5th child..I took the Depo-Provera shot 2-3 times...I experienced loss of desire and hair loss. Have you been taking any kind of meds for any reason? That could have a lot to do with it..How old is your youngest? Sometimes for awhile after having a baby can affect you, especially if you could be worried about getting pregnant or something.
Avatar n tn Ive been having irregular periods within the last few years due to depo provera. I was on it for almost 7 years since 1999; got off in 2006 to let my body adjust to normality. I was "living the single life" with protection but sometimes I wonder if there would be some kind of men would be spiteful or loving enough to end my carreer with getting me pregnant without my concent? Just like there women out there who would do that to men out there which I'd never do without thier concent..
Avatar n tn i was on the depo-provera shot for two years straight, and recently, in January stopped the injections to take a break. it took about 3 months for me to get a period. they've been regular for 5 consecutive months. as for being pregnant, it's not likely. just recently with in the last two weeks i started having sex again, with condoms. i will get my period around the 21st, so does that mean that im ovulating? thanks again for all the feed back.
Avatar n tn i have noticed this problem for at least a couple of years and initially my doctor thought it was because i was in depo provera and had abnormal bleeding all the time. i have been on the pill for over 7 months and my periods are back to normal except after this occurrence following orgasm. in april i had an abnormal pap smear that indicated i had HGSIL (high-grade intraepithelial lesions) of the cervix.
422823 tn?1229740447 My only concern is that if I don't ovulate my uterine lining could become dangerously too thick again and I would have to take provera to get af. When you don't ov, you don't get a true period and thus my lining built up in the past and I was told this is a pre-cursor to uterine cancer.
