Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera side effects in men

depo-provera

Avatar n tn First off, primarily doctors are able to do two things: 1.) repair and 2.) alleviate symptoms (applying band aids)....in most cases, they are not, however, capable of curing the root of those symptoms. In those cases where they are capable of getting rid of an illness, it is through use of chemicals that reek havoc on your system and leads to other illness (chemo is an ie. of this).
Avatar n tn Plus, there are so many women around here that now want to take it, I'm planning a seminar. So, the side effects will be helpful in discussion. My doctor has been injecting it for 2 years as a maintenance program and so has his wife. Plus, he says in some of his fibromyalgia patients, the hcg has really helped their pain lesson (not in all but in some). Everybody should investigate it for themselves and need to feel good about, wholly, before taking it.
Avatar n tn days when I can barely function and have also experienced symptoms of hypoglycemia and panic attacks and or crying jags for no reason. I have been reading a lot about the Depo side effects some women have had and they mirror mine. I've had a thyroid test and it was fine, so I don't think that I'm diabetic. I have been trying to eat well and clense with milk thistle to try to hasten the exit of the Depo.
Avatar f tn I wanted to hear about your experience with side effects, I was told that the hot flashes would be the worst, my doctor has already told me he's going to add on Northedrone which I'm currently on to help suppress constant bleeding. When I return from vacation is when I start the shot. My main concern is hair loss, I've read horror stories about people losing all their hair on Depo Lupron, or if becoming thinner.
Avatar n tn Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills? What are the side effects? What are the benefits? Has FDA approved? Where i can search more about Yaz? Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy? Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills. is that true?
Avatar n tn The Depo-Provera is still in your system. It puts your body in a false state of pregnancy, thus the weight gain and bloated abdomen. What ever you do, DO NOT GO BACK ON DEPO PROVERA! There is more weight gain the second time around, and harder to loose. Remember: No Salt,no Sugar,no booze except for occasional red wine (3 Carbs),no fake sugar like splenda, xylotol or any other fake sugar by any name, bread, chocolate, doughnuts, pizza, bagels, carbs including vegetables (yes I said it!
Avatar f tn I had two chocolate cysts that were around 6 cm x 6 cm x 6 cm, the size of a tennis ball. My gynecologist wants me to take depo provera until I am in menopause. I am only 41. I refuse to take it afraid of all the side effects. I agree we are almost made to feel like we HAVE to take it. My surgeon was very forceful about me having to take it. She does not know I never filled the prescription. Not even willing to take Alesse the birth control pill. I am just waiting and seeing.
Avatar f tn Acne, anaphylaxis (life-threatening allergic reaction), blood clot in a vein, lungs, or brain, breakthrough bleeding (between menstrual periods), breast tenderness or sudden or excessive flow of milk, cervical erosion or changes in secretions, depression, excessive growth of hair, fever, fluid retention, hair loss, headache, hives, insomnia, itching, lack of menstruation, menstrual flow changes, spotting, nausea, rash, skin discoloration, sleepiness, weight gain or loss, yellowed eyes and skin
1160836 tn?1332333769 When I was reading for information on the internet, I don't think I read that much information as far as how long it would be in your system. I did read in a book, that states that the side effects would only last for as long as you take the medication. But today, I am feel horrible. I don’t know when to test, because I have been irregular, for the past 6 months. December , I had a cycle for 16 days. Then nothing until March 4th.
Avatar n tn Hi all, I have just been reading all of your posts, and am happy to discover that i am not alone in side effects. I came of Yasmine 3 weeks ago after taking it for 8 months, before Jasmine was on Microginon 30. Anyway, I have been on the pill for 8 years non stop, have no children and am 26. The reason I stopped taking it was due to having bad migraines for the past year, one which landed me in hospital a month ago.
Avatar n tn Depo can stay in your system anywhere from 12-24 months...for some people its different so thats not for everyone. Depo messes your body up do it could be a while or it could be tomorrow when you start. I took 2 shots of Depo and then decided to go on BCP and when I stopped the BCP's in Aug 04 I still have not had AF because the Depo is still in my system..I have used Provera twice to make me have AF. You may want to talk to your Dr and see what they think. Best of Luck!
Avatar n tn If you are pregnant your baby is in somewhat in danger by you being injected with the Depo Provera just a couple of months ago. I would make me an appointment at the local clinic or your ob/gyn. Explain to them what is going on. Obviously if your taking the shot you don't want to be pregnant. Your body has to be on a perfect hormonal balance for the egg to implant and survive.
Avatar n tn It usually happens on the palm side of various fingers, but in April, I had one rupture on my knuckle. I'm very interested in any comments.
1000392 tn?1294097512 I've been crying myself to sleep for the past 3 weeks now. This idea of giving endo patients Depo Lupron is a mistake. Who in their right mind would think it's normal to put a 23 year old in menopause?! So now I have to go through menopause not once but twice? Why is it that a doctor can give you 2 options to "cure" the endo... have a baby or get a hysterectomy?! Especially when you've been told that you will not have children. Endo is a slow emotional killer.
Avatar n tn The mini-pill is progesterone based like depo-provera. In fact it is the same thing, only in a daily pill form instead of the longer acting shot.
362249 tn?1441318618 Has any1 watched that movie called Children Of Men? It's how in the future no1 has been able to have kids for 18 yrs!! Every1 is infertile EVERY1!! And i hate to say it but my DH could be right all the chemicals they are putting in B/C is really bad and something like this could just possibly happen one day!! Ok thats my input and gripe!! Feel free to read the article and post comments!! But PLEASE let's be MedHelp friendly no being rude or yelling or insulting!! We are just opinionating here!
Avatar f tn Back before my son when I got depo provera shots I didn't get periods on that either. Most hormonal methods make periods shorter and lighter or eliminate them completely.
Avatar n tn i have noticed this problem for at least a couple of years and initially my doctor thought it was because i was in depo provera and had abnormal bleeding all the time. i have been on the pill for over 7 months and my periods are back to normal except after this occurrence following orgasm. in april i had an abnormal pap smear that indicated i had HGSIL (high-grade intraepithelial lesions) of the cervix.
266539 tn?1281405752 I don't know what to tell you. Every other birth control is awful. Between IUD's stabbing men in the penis, and birth control pills reducing your drive to zero, and condoms breaking or reducing the man's experience, nothing is any good. Sterilization was great for us, but you have to wait a very long time for that to be acceptable and appropriate. You're left with a much more horrible alternative, which is pregnancy outside of marriage, which you don't want either . Sheesh.
Avatar f tn i just started taking fertilaid the other day actually cause i just got off depo and had alot of side effects with it and trying to balance my hormones out, but anyways my sister in law is 10 weeks pregnant, they have been trying for a looong time, she did use fertilaid because her periods were comming at all different times or not at all, soon as she started taking it the next month and from then on she was regular and helped her get pregnant cause she could actually figure out when she was ovu
Avatar f tn They are telling me I need a hysterectomy, but before I can get it I need a hysteroscopy first. Telling me it is pre-cancerous, but that 40-55% is usually cancerous. Was also diagnosed with HepC in 11/07, and the blood results were that it was so low it was undectable. Also had a liver biopsy in May 08, but did not get results back yet.Add high blood pressure and high cholesterol to that.
Avatar n tn I was on Depo Provera for about 10 years and then switched to birth control bills. During this time, I never had a problem with excess vaginal wetness and enjoyed a high sex drive and satisfying sex life. I recently went off all birth control, planning to get pregnant. Now, I have been experiencing excess vaginal wetness and it negatively effects my sex life with my husband. Of course, I can't find a lot of information about the topic or any medications/solutions to address the issue.
Avatar n tn that it says your period should start within a month or two of discontinuing the pill, but OCCASIONALLY it may take up to a year. How old are you? If you are in your 30's, I wouldn't waste a lot of time getting this investigated.
Avatar n tn Interestingly, there are many many documented side-effects of Depo-provera (just take a look at their web-site for possible complcations), yet it is approved by the FDA. As I said, the presence of HCG in the human body is used as an INDICATOR for pregnancy. HCG has been found in EVERY human tissue, also in males and non pregnant females. 2. The FDA "says so": The FDA also gives speed to our kids in the form of Ritalin.
Avatar n tn anovulation, hair growth on or around breast nipples or excessive hair growth on other areas usually only found in men, insulin resistance, male pattern baldness, enlarged ovaries, multiple cysts forming on ovaries, no AF or long and painful AF's, and irregular cyles just to name a few. You might want to type in and do a search on PCOS. I know one site is "PCOS.com". I am not saying this is your situation, I just thought it was interesting when you mentioned the insulin resistance.
Avatar m tn Not only did they not work but they caused the worst side effects and I am not allergic to anything. I have been controlling my diet for some time now watching my carb intake and was on glucophage for a while with no results. I have irregular periods sometimes a year on and a year off and extremely they are usually heavy and painful. I have hirsutism"abnormal, male like hair growth" which is so embarrasing and of course fertility issues.
1636472 tn?1439186588 My doctor told me that I can take it for 6 rounds. What exactly is IUI? Is that insemination? I am sorry about your side effects. I had major headaches and I was very moody! I hope this month is better for us all! Lots of baby dust to you and I will def keep everyone posted!!
Avatar n tn Provera is medroxy-progesterone, an old birth control pill and is also in the form of depo-provera which is a 3 month form of birth control. It is used in men to chemically castrate in the event of deviant behavior or medical reasons.
Avatar n tn Depo Provera or Androcur will take your drive away, but be careful, the effects of chemical castration can be bad, depression, mood swings, heat flashes, etc. Women can have low estrogen too and i find its a better solution to bring the low partner up than to shut the high partner down...
