Ddavp injection shortage

Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp injection shortage

ddavp

Avatar f tn How do you wean off the medicine DDAVP? I've been taking this medicine for many years only to find out my tests say I don't need it (I had small injury to pituitary in brain). Unfortunately I find it almost impossible to wean off because it makes you go to the bathroom ALOT after the medicine ware's off! since it's an anti diuretic/water retaining pill! Confusing and tricky.
Avatar f tn The medication used for this is called Dessmopressin or DDAVP. It is available in a pill form, nasal spray or injection. There are a few other conditions that can mimic this so it is important to get it ruled in or out. I have this and without medication I am also up every half hour drinking and peeing.i rec that you see a neuro endo to rule this out, your other pituitary hormones, and have a current MRI. It may be as simple as taking a little pill every night to help you to hold onto fluids.
Avatar f tn So I have to take DDAVP most of the time now. Before I used to be able to get away with only taking it at night. Maybe this is part of what is going on. I don't really have answer per se, but just an idea on why it might fluctuate more if u have it.
Avatar m tn One of the ways we would try to determine this was by prescribing DDAVP (if there were not any issues that would prevent using it). Desmopressin (trade names: DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men).
Avatar f tn Under that condition there would/should be shortage of breath with any exertion and sometimes there is chest pain (angina). There are people that function well with an EF below 29% as the symptoms are controlled by a system that has successfully compensated. Depending on the underlying cause you may be able to increase your EF.
Avatar n tn However, there is a severe shortage of methotrexate without preservatives, and when I went to fill his prescription last time, I was only able to get methotrexate with preservatives. Since we don't know others on this medication, I'm posting this question, because I'd like to know if others are taking the injectable methotrexate with preservatives for arthritis or rheumatic conditions and if it is generally tolerated, or if the preservatives may cause problems.
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
212753 tn?1275073111 Hi every one. I get my first thyrogen injection on Monday .I am wondering about how it will make me feel.If there is anyone that has taken the thyrogen I would love to hear about your experience. I have one more cancer treatment but I am soooo relieved to get the thyrogen instead of going to hypo hell.
Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
Avatar n tn If you do not, an injection of B12 will do you no more good than taking a B12 supplement.. Many people are unable to absorb B12 through their stomach. This is called pernicious anemia and it can be dangerous for them , causing things like peripheral nerve damage and even death. I have recently been diagnosed with B12 and cannot get a prescription because of a shortage. It seems B12 is the new "In" drug.
148588 tn?1465778809 Hmmm, I heard a report that the drug shortage was on meds not making pharmaceutical companies enough profit, not that the drugs weren't working. Why are the people on the bottom being asked to sacrifice while the top is making record profits? In my opinion until our values alter, away from greed, nobody is going to want to 'sacrifice' anything.
Avatar n tn I was doing alot of research last night on the shortage and I have seen that alot of people are going to the compound pharmacy to get their 30 mg. They are compounding it with ginger in the Tampa area I know and some other areas too. It seems they are expensive though at 5 bucks a pill:( I called mallinckrodt last night also and they say that the shortage will soon end.
Avatar f tn I just went to see my endo today for a 6 month check up and was told that there is a shortage on Thyrogen in the US and that I'd have to off meds for 6 weeks this time instead of getting the thyrogen injections like I have since my second scan. I simply cannot fathom going off meds again for 6 weeks. It was a horrible experience for me the first time and I simply do not have three more years to get myself back on track again after it's over.
Avatar f tn I would have to say anyone that could not see a food shortage coming as a result of all this and the rising prices as a result would have to have their head in a hole somewhere. Our water supply is at risk as well. So is it the result of our government trying to take us over? lol sorry. Nope, we are killing our planet and seems it is fighting for survival. In other words believe it or not, the bible is being fulfilled.
Avatar m tn Michigan seems to be having this problem too :\
Avatar f tn The tumor was germinoma. Yes u are right it was the optic nerve. I don't know for sure if my pituitary gland still functions I take ddavp, I also took growth hormones in the past and I take l cortef. But I'm not sure. Thanks so much I have a docs visit soon and Ill ask him more about my tumor. Thanks again for your help. And about the scar tissue he wants another MRI and then him and other docs will decide to do a biopsy or something els.
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Desmopressin (DDAVP) it reduces urine production at night. But drinking too much liquid with the medication can cause problems, and Desmopressin should be avoided if you have symptoms such as a fever, diarrhea or nausea. Be sure to carefully follow instructions for using this drug. Desmopressin is given orally as a tablet and is only for patients over 5 years old.
Avatar f tn I have used a nasal spray (DDAVP) for three weeks, but the bleeding did not stop. I tried doubling up on the nasal spray since I was prescribed the wrong strength, but it did not help. I had my second Depo Provera shot on December 7. I thought it would help make the bleeding stop, but I am still bleeding. I have also tried a estrogen pill I was prescribed, but it has not helped. I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days?
582281 tn?1267822196 and to inform me that at present [may be resolved by monday} there seems to be a shortage of interferon for trial participants..... lovely.......i asked her if putting of this injection for two days would possibly affect my "status"..she assured me that at this stage of tox and still undetectable.. it would not be that critical....to be a few days late..hmmmmm hate like hell to risk the game now on a few days delay... any opinions advice folks ?
606423 tn?1271824088 I guess they changed their formulation or something along thos lines and thats why there is a shortage. A lot of us have switched to other natural brands such as Westhroid and Naturethroid.
535882 tn?1396576685 Have you noticed any differences in the consistency of the NP tablets since the "shortage"? I had yet another shortage here last month.
Avatar f tn A coalition of health care groups has suggested some legislative and regulatory steps in addressing the drug-shortage crisis. Among them are creating an early drug-shortage warning system, streamlining the FDA's approval process, improving communications between stakeholders, and exploring incentives to encourage drug manufacturers to stay in, or re-enter, the market.
Avatar m tn ive never went this much during the night..i had to go get on some meds called ddavp to slow it down so i can sleep..
