Common Questions and Answers about Ddavp for bedwetting

ddavp

Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn How do you wean off the medicine DDAVP? I've been taking this medicine for many years only to find out my tests say I don't need it (I had small injury to pituitary in brain). Unfortunately I find it almost impossible to wean off because it makes you go to the bathroom ALOT after the medicine ware's off! since it's an anti diuretic/water retaining pill! Confusing and tricky.
Avatar f tn I was known for my bedwetting at ages 4 and up. For a couple of years, I had a dry spell. The bedwetting just stopped. Last year, I had one accident. But, in the recent months, and early this morning, I have wet the bed a couple of times. I'm embarrassed by this, and I have no clue why I continue to wet the bed. I'm worried about this, because I'll be going off to college in the fall, and I don't want this to continue on. Whenever I wet the bed, I'm half asleep.
Avatar f tn Hello, Bedwetting is usually present till 5-6 years of age. If it is present beyond that then we look out for other causes of bedwetting. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn Have worn on on diapers with plastic pants my whole life for bedwetting. I was allowed to stop wearing at night when I entered high school but that opened a whole new problem. I was a nightly wetter and often more than once a night so I now had to deal with mid night floods, would cover it with a couple of towels, go back to sleep and soak again. I missed my diapers and went back to wearing them for good nights sleep.
Avatar n tn Hi, if you try not to hold it for a long time, do you experience the bedwetting? If there are other symptoms present, let's observe this for a couple of days, you go to the bathroom every time the urgency arises and if bedwetting still happens, a visit to your doctor should be the next step. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Is your son a peaceful sleeper? Bedwetting can be a sleep disorder. We were very successful with a bedwetting program (quite expensive but we could pay it out ) in about a month, it was no longer an issue. I don't recall the name of the program, but look it up on the internet. If you can't find anything, leave me a message and I will do a little research for you. Good luck and God bless.
Avatar n tn my 18 yr old son is a freshman in college. We (My husband) are aware that he is drinking. He has even had a few minor incidents where drinking was taking place such as being called down by the RA we have also received a letter from the college on this behavior. I (mother) am a recovering alcoholic for 16 years don't really know if I am alcholic or a alcohol abuser.
Avatar f tn I strongly recommend the book, Seven Steps to Nighttime Dryness, by Renee Mercer for all parents dealing with a child’s bedwetting. also the early chapter book for children, Prince Bravery and Grace – Attack of the Wet Knights by Gail Ann Gross. It is the story of a young prince who struggles with "the Wet Knights" and eventually defeats them by using an alarm.
Avatar n tn I am rasing my grandchild who is 7 yrs old and has ODD, and DAD ( disorganized attachment disorder ) not a reconized disorder, He is also been tested for ADHD and possible underlining autisim. He wets the bed allmost every nigh and wears a pull up, which is his choice, because he does not like wetting the bed. My question is, when he goes to his dad's, his dad will not give him the pull ups.
Avatar f tn My 6 1/2 yr old son took meds from 2-4 to help him sleep at night, which put him in a deep sleep. He gas been off the meds for 2 1/2 yrs and he still cannot wake himself up to use the bathroom. How can I help fix this?
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.

1216899 tn?1288570325 ve already had one surgery for a CSF leak and am going back to California in May for another round of testing to see if it has come back and they can pinpoint it- I dunno if you have this though just throwing it out at you since you are in the process of being diagnosed. Hope you feel better.
Avatar m tn How long did it take for your diabetes insipidus to resolve? how long did it take for your doctor to prescribe testosterone? My endo refuses to prescribed the testosterone as he says that should recover by itself, however I am exhausted all day. I am on ddavp (sublingual pill) and 10mg of prednisone.
1363339 tn?1338771053 I don’t take it regularly because I find it hard for me to balance out between hypo and hyper. I become tired with it. I always try to minimize stress as much as possible, laugh as much as possible, because I know stress make this disease worse and I’ve experienced it quite well if I got stressed out. Is it right that hormone insufficiencies can only be noticeable or come into effect sometime later.
Avatar n tn I am a 60 year old male and have had a problem, over the last ten years, with bedwetting on an infrequent basis, maybe 1 or 2 times a month. The occurences follow no particular pattern, can happen either with or without the consumption of alcohol. Had this investigated at the beginning and consultant was unable to find a cause. Since then my prostate has become enlarged, benign, taking medication for this but still means getting up a couple of times a night.
Avatar m tn Other treatment options are bladder volume training, bedwetting alarms and setting an alarm during the night at a random time in order to urinate. If still the symptoms persist then medical treatment with desmopressin, imipramine and anticholinergics can be tried. Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
Avatar m tn We have a 7 year old colllie just diagnosed with Diabetes Insipetes (nephrogenic). Vet recommends treatment with ddavp eye drop. All the information we can find says that this is "very expensive". Can you give us a ballpark of what this actually means for annual cost of care? What are the implications of leaving this untreated if she has on going access to fresh clean water?
Avatar n tn (There are probably some trust issues here too.) They do have medication for bedwetting that are sometimes effective. Children (and adults) who are ADD need to be reminded to take their medication. I not only remind my children, I place it in their hand, making sure they don't drop it in the process. Children who are ADD appear to be lazy, but most of the time they are not focused, or are focused on the wrong thing. It would be good for all of you if you could see a therapist.
