Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel mood

cytomel

Avatar f tn My Endo told me that 1 week after my TT (while pathology makes a Dx over their findings) I will be placed on Cytomel. Then if it's not cancer then I will be placed on Synthroid. Does anyone know why post-op TT patients are initially placed on Cytomel? I am aware that Cytomel is just T3 while Synthroid is T4, but I still don't understand. Also, how does Cytomel affect your mood? Is it sufficient or will you go hypo? Any response appreciated.
Avatar n tn Perhaps I got it wrong. But my daughter's on the cytomel and the question remains the same.
Avatar m tn decided to add cytomel 15 mcg...I was experiencing mood swings uncontrollable crying and nightmares... I gained about 5 pounds more with this drug ( I swear it made me hungrier than normal) ...so my Dr. adds Welbutrin XL 300 mg to regulate my mood and help with the crying jags I guess ...now I am experiencing insomnia, trembling hands, ringing in the ears and instead of helping I am getting awfully agitated at times....someone please help!! I feel like I am on a roller coaster...
Avatar f tn It has been 5 weeks and I would like to get retested so I can get redosed and possibly add T3 as Cytomel taking a half dose in AM and PM. I know I am not right and would like to speed the process up. The extreme fatigue, moo, and weight issues are not even close to being where they should be. I was first diagnosed in 2002 after my first pregnancy but I know I have been hypo for years as I have taken 1 1/2-2 hour naps for years and have always been extremely sensitive to cold.
267288 tn?1256278177 I prefer to feel better over waiting and seeing I guess. There is a huge difference in my energy level and mood when I take Cytomel than when I don't. But, I don't want to shoot myself in the foot either. I think I'm tired of being "sick" and want to return to normal as soon as possible. If I slowly wean off of Cytomel should it be soon that I start converting my own T4 to T3? Thank you again in advance.
1205917 tn?1265745553 I have read a number of conflicting studies and reports concerning the benefits of T4/T3 combination, as well as reports describing the benefits of cytomel. I also have had a personal report of a person with hypothyroid who used the T3 drug Cytomel in combination with Synthroid. I have yet to try it, and cannot find a doctor who will give it a chance.
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed 36 years ago due to cancer. I have been on Thyrolar all of those 36 years except for a short test period when I was put on synthroid. During the time on synthroid I had mood swings, a general ill feeling. Just didn't feel like myself. Today I tried to refill my prescription and found that Thyrolar is not available and I am unsure if it will ever be available. I have an appointment to see my internist on Monday and would like to go armed with good information.
Avatar m tn Your FT4 looks really good (even, perhaps, a tad high, but nothing to worry about), and you usually decrease levo by approximately 25 mcg when adding 5 mcg Cytomel. So, the increase to 100, plus adding the Cytomel might just have been too much, too fast. Now, you've been alternating for a while, got used to that, the Cytomel might be an altogether different experience.
Avatar f tn Thanks Char4317 the endo sent Cytomel to my pharmacy and will begin taking cytomel as well as Levoxyl. I feel this will do the trick. Taking the cytomel will bump up my T3 and T4 levels and hopefully allow me to feel better with more energy? Thanks for all your advice. FTB4, if I were you, I would try Levoxyl. I didnt have all the horrible side effects I had on Synthroid. Thanks!
Avatar f tn It was very difficult at first, lots of racing thoughts, mood swings, and anxiety with reintroducing cytomel but as my body adjusted to the cytomel most of those symptoms minimixed. I'm hopeful that this doctor will partner with me. My regular M.D. while she is clueless on my thyroid needs she was willing to run the freeT4 and freeT3 tests for the first time when I requested them. She also is willing to think outside the box and is supportive of me seeking help from this holistic M.D.
Avatar n tn eyes feel funny (like they continually want to go out of focus and like there is pressure behind them), foggy thinking, low mood, reduced verbal fluency, weight gain, swelling (primarily abdominal), itching, constipation, muscle weakness, and poor exercise recovery. On desiccated thyroid: all of the same symptoms (minus the itching, swelling, weight gain), plus sensation of pressure at back of skull.
Avatar f tn June 2017: (Dr.Mai) 125mcg Synthyroid 5mcg Cytomel. Felt much better with the added 5mcg cytomel but I still would like med increase my weight won't budge and my body pains are terrible. FT4 - 1.62 (0.93 - 1.7) T3 - 121 (80 - 200) TSH - 0.812 (0.27 - 4.20) With 5mg of Cytomel added.
988694 tn?1332359479 As I mentioned to Laura, my doctor tried to bring up my T3 by lowering my NT and by adding Cytomel. I started to add Cytomel slowly, but to be honest I had a lot of irregular heart beat. I got irregular heart beat when I am hypo as well, so it is very confusing to me to really know what is going on. I tried and decreased my NT up to 1.5 and increased Cytomel, and that are the numbers you see in my original post.
Avatar f tn my FT4 dropped a lot (labs as of 4-28-11). I felt pretty good for a few weeks after adding the Cytomel (better mood, more energy, less hair loss), but recently have begun feeling bad again. Im just wondering why this happened. Doesn't FT3 normally rise with Cytomel? I haven't started the new, higher dose yet, but will tomorrow. I also wonder if my Synthroid should be adjusted upward too since my FT4 level dropped so much.
793305 tn?1493925518 Your have to remember that T3 (Cytomel) is approximately four times more potent than T4 (Levoxyl). So, your 5 mcg of Cytomel is equivalent to 20 mcg of Levoxyl. This represents 1/5 of your total hormone intake in a day When you look at it that way, 5 mcg is not insignificant. Also, when our thyroid functions normally, it produces T4 to T3 in a ratio of about 20 to 1. This is very close to what you are taking.
Avatar m tn ve tried a varied amount of medication and dosages (Levothyroxine, Synthroid, Armour, Naturethroid, Armour + T4, Levoxyl, and due to the recall Synthroid again, and now Cytomel) and I believe that I have discovered the limits of medication that my body can tolerate (no more than 25 mcg T4, and I don't seem to be able to tolerate T3). My last blood test (7/20/2013) revealed: TSH- 6.070 mIU/L (Range: 0.270-4.200 mIU/L FT4- 1.00 ng/dL (Range: .93- 1.70 ng/ dL) FT3- 2.
Avatar f tn Before surgery I always had a TSH of 0.6, so anything over 1.0 is killer for me. I am tired of the mood swings and cold and grumpiness. I want to go back to happy again. Help! I am now on .88 t4 everyday with 5 t3...still blah! Another test on 12-21-11. Any thoughts?
1474133 tn?1287149045 Does this mean that I may have to look into Cytomel or some other FT3 replacement....or will an increase in Synthroid bring it up rather than down? Thanks for any input!
Avatar f tn 75mg synthroid and .025mcg cytomel. I was healthy for about a month last summer but since then my hair has fallen out, weight is a BIG problem (especially as I am a fitness instructor) and I am trying to tell people to follow me down the path of fitness and healthy eating but I look and feel terrible. I want to make sure I am heading in the right direction., My T4 is 1.38, my TSH has gone from so low it was immeasurable to .020. It has improved because my current doctor took me off my .
Avatar f tn I have taken Levothyroxine, generic for Synthroid, for 30 years now. My recent lab tests show as always that my strength of med is correct. I've read that sometimes the t3 needs more attention which the Lev. alone doesn't always do. I have had dry skin, hair, fatigue, low mood, constipation for years; just dealt with it. Now thinning hair, a lot more..... I could harass my dr.
Avatar m tn Went to an Endo and did a small increase of an additional 50 mcg of Synthroid a week-then to 112 and numbers were still off. Then tried Cytomel, 25 mcg along with 112 mcg of Synthroid and felt great for about two weeks, but now am back to feeling crappy again. Is it possible to build a tolerance to these drugs? It seems like everytime I increase or add something, I feel better for a couple of weeks and then slowly go back to where I was.
Avatar m tn I seem to have sensitivities to Synthroid and eltroxin. Cytomel seemed to work well (except for my feet /ankles/knees swelling and joint pain once I got to a level that had my TSH down to almost zero (I've had a total thyroidectomy).
Avatar n tn I cannot see the doctor until late next week and I feel I need to get back on cytomel (T3). How should I switch back to cytomel without doing a lot more damgae to my adrenals? Should I taper the armour while adding the cytomel? Or should I go off all of the armour asap?
Avatar f tn I am on .137mg now and just recently been put on Cytomel 5mcg twice daily. I had to basically have a breakdown infront of my endocrinologist to have him let me try this. My endocrinologist had only taken my TSH for years. Until recently, after having so many ups and downs (BAD MOOD SWINGS) and panic attacks, I saw an chiropractor neurologist and he told me that I needed a full thyroid blood work up and could not believe that my specialist had not done so.
