Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and antidepressants

cytomel

Avatar f tn I had a recent experience with Cytomel which lowered my TSH to 0.033, made me hyperthyroid and caused polyneuropathy (burning, pis/needles, aching pain) in my feet, legs and hands. My doc had lowered my levo by 20% back in Feb making me sick and hypothyroid. While trying to bring me out of my hypo state, he added 25mcg of Cytomel to my 0.137 levo. This rapidly caused neuropathy which we could not figure out at the time. I was sent to an endocrinologist and she had me stop Cytomel.
Avatar f tn These vary from lab to lab and must come from your own report. Labs from both, before and after the cytomel, would be great. There is no "normal" amount to be added to a specific amount of levo; as stated above the dosage would be dependent on your FT3/FT4 labs. Most of us are started out on a very small dose and increased as needed. 25 mcg is not a small dose. Did you take the whole 25 mcg cytomel all at once each day?
895308 tn?1304340982 I wish you luck talking with your doctor! What are you currently taking? Are you also on Armour? I am now completely off of Wellbutrin! :) I was very tired for a while, probably a reaction to coming off the Wellbutrin, so I increased the dosage of Armour to 4 tablets a day (60mg each). I will retest in another month or so. I will be very curious where my levels are. I am now trying to make sure I have selenium and use sea salt in my diet per my trainer who is a nutritionist.
Avatar f tn IF this doctor that prescibed the Cytomel - DOES know the ins and outs of T3 drugs and how they manage mental condition balancing thyroid hormones.... I would bet s/he has a network of GP's and DO's that know about the labs regarding RIGHT thyroid care and it wouldn't hurt to ask that at your next appointment so you could have a TEAM approach more than just one...
Avatar n tn i am on levothyroxine and cytomel.................i have been on this for a few months and have extreme brain fog and disconnection and depression...............should i continue the ad and hope it will work again?..........will the thyroid meds help me soon............
1070570 tn?1283436213 I was up to 125 mcg synthroid, then dropped back to 75 synthroid, then switched to 75 generic levo and added 10 mcg cytomel. That was too much cytomel, so dropped back to 5 mcg cytomel and switched to generic; then up to 88 mcg levo, staying with 5 mcg generic cytomel. Am currently on 100 mcg Tirosint and 5 mcg generic cytomel. I take the Tirosint first thing in the morning, per instructions (my day starts 3:30 am). I take my T3 med about 7-7:30 am.
Avatar f tn Hello- I'm 33/female and I've had hypothyroidism since age 26. I'm taking Synthroid and Cytomel and my endo checks my levels every 6 months. I'm usually midly elevated and my dr tried a couple times to lower my dosage but it always resulted in me feeling awful and him reverting to my original dose. The reason why I'm writing here is because I've been feeling extremely depressed lately.
Avatar f tn Free T3 levels must be checked regularly, along with TSH and Free T4, when taking cytomel. Cytomel is usually not recommended unless you have a conversion problem or for some other reason, your Free T3 is out of line. In addition, you should constantly be aware of any symptoms that might indicate that you are taking too much. Oldie - I, too, have heard that cytomel should not be used by persons with heart issues.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone out there has ever tried adding in 25 mg of cytomel to level things out. I just received some and was going to add it in but i didn't want to screw things up more than they already are. If anyone has any answers or opinions let me know.
1070570 tn?1283436213 t taking any synthroid I was on 50mcg cytomel, but i started to have hyper feelings so he halfed my cytomel dose to 25mcg and added 25 mcg synthroid and I haven't felt good since. But I will mention an increase of synthroid to my doc to see if that helps. I have noticed from reading old posts on here that most people aren't taking over 10 mg of cytomel. I am on 35 mcg at the moment. Has anyone ever been treated solely on T3 and had success? what dosage?
793305 tn?1493925518 I currently take 5 mcg of Cytomel and .88 mg of Levoxyl. After doing research I sought out a Dr. in my community that prescribed Cytomel. That little bit does make a difference for me. I have never felt like I did before Hashimoto's in many respects, but I personally feel that Cytomel helped my energy level much more than the traditional sole replacement therapy!
458072 tn?1291415186 Cytomel is a T3 - the only way this would benefit you would be if your T3 is low and need to get that level up. Low T3 could cause anxiety but you need to know your thyroid blood panel to really see if you need it. Cytomel is not really a med to control anxiety. Xanax is the most given or a generic.
332168 tn?1201026915 I had a TT in Sept. and RAI in Nov. During the time between the TT and RAI, I took only Cytomel and did fine on it. Currently I take 137 of Levothyroxine and 25 mcg of Cytomel. I was taking a half tablet in the morning and once in the early afternoon, but I couldn't manage to remember to take the afternoon dose in a timely fashion, and sometimes was kept up at night.
Avatar n tn Dx Central Hypothroidism and Hashimoto Taking synthroid 125 Endo added cytomel 10mcg due to low ft3 and persistent hypo symptoms.Feeling terrible and even worse with added titre (cytomel) 10mcg. Rang Endo and told me to stop with cytomel. Is that possible that such a low dose could make me feel awful...double vison, sense of nausea, some palpitations...to add to my already hypo symptoms...plus ft3 and ft4 have not risen even a tiny bit. I'm really confused at this point.
Avatar f tn I have a slightly underperforming thyroid and was put on synthroid which made me nauseous, even when the dosage was lowered. So I have now been put on 25mcg of cytomel and am having real trouble falling asleep. My doctor told me to half the dosage but I still cannot sleep and am now taking sleeping pills as well. I usually take the cytomel in the morning and I read somewhere that it can help to take it at night, which doesn't make sense to me.
Avatar n tn I am on synthroid 100 and just started cytomel 3 days ago, I am on 10 a day 75 seems a bit much. I am only taking cytomel because I am not getting enough T3.
Avatar n tn Perhaps I got it wrong. But my daughter's on the cytomel and the question remains the same.
Avatar n tn I am taking 2.5 mcg cytomel and 8 drops of Lugols solution for treatment of thyroid nodules. I have more energy, sleep better, but am having regular frontal headaches and my eye ache and itch. It's hard to know if I am taking too much or too little, since the symptoms can be the same! Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn In the last year I went to the endo, who given how I was feeling gave me 1.12 of synthroid and the smallest dose of cytomel, and I am on seasonique. I had only been through one pack of the seasonique at this time with no bleeding/spotting. Once I started the cytomel, the spotting started again. The endo told me I should try a half dose of the cytomel. That made no difference. Now she told me to quit the cytomel and see if that helps. Now I am getting a light period.....
1129774 tn?1279831762 30 and eat breakfast at 7:00. I talked to the pharmacist and she said I can take the cytomel whenever. With breakfast I take all my vitamins Multi, calicum, mag,. probiotic, vit. d, and cranberry. Can I take both at 5:30 in the morning? Or should I wait until after breakfast. I decided to only start with one a day and see how I do. I am afraid of getting to much. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Just started the Cytomel and synthroid three days ago. This morning I had few red spots on my chest. It could be nothing but has anyone had a skin rash with cytomel before? The insert says it is RARE but how rare? When should I worry? It's hardly anything.
Avatar m tn I am taking propafenone 150 twice/day for heart arrythmias. You warned me off Cytomel becasue of this and my age, 81.. Now I find several researcher or doctor opinions that i I could take it at minimal dose and constant blood tests. All levels have been within the range for eight months now but with T4 at the high end and FT3 and T3 at the low end. How about 5 Cyto and reducing levo by 20??? I'll try anything to get out of ten intermittent days a month sick.
Avatar f tn Good questions. It makes sense that if I weren't taking meds I would go back to being hypo. My most recent symptoms (why I moved my endo appt up a couple of weeks prior to my regularly scheduled follow up) were fatigue, disorientation, nauseau, panic attacks, feeling like I could't get enough air or feeling a bit faint, a bit jittery. Noticed slight shaking when I write.
Avatar m tn Normally a combination of synthyroid and cytomel would be given. If you are taking cytomel, it should also be spread out through the day (ie. multiple dosing) not all at once. I would be rechecking on this or getting a second opinion. Another option considering that your FT3 is low is to switch to 'natural thyroid' whcih contains T3, T4 and other trace hormones. Armor is one, dessicated thyroid (erfa brand from canada), or compounded from pharmacy.
Avatar f tn ok just started taking cytomel w/ my sythroid and the doc gives me a script for vyanase which is basically speed. I am scared to take it b/c cytomel is also a stimulate. will this freak me out or what? i haven't taken the speed yet b/c i am so scared i will die of a heartattack!! anyone else on this? thanks for your help.
822804 tn?1298226302 I convinced my dr to add cytomel w/Synthroid 88mcg. He ordered 25mcg of Cytomel and I knew it was too much at once so I cut it in half and had only 12.5mcg in am & 12.5mcg at 2pm. I had been on the 88mcg for a long time and I just wanted to see if I increased by 44mcg (cutting an 88mcg in half) and adding it to the 88mcg (total of 132mcg) and I can't even believe how much better I feel. It took a long time for me to add the second dose of cytomel though.
