1732853 tn?1366758928 Like most immunosuppressants, the side effects can be pretty severe. I am pretty sure that my diabetes is directly connected to my immunosuppressive use and I also have elevated creatinine levels which long term will be problematic. It is not unusual for long term cyclosporine users to have renal failure. Biggest side effect I've noticed is body hair growth- my has been very noticable on my arms, legs, chest, and back.
Avatar n tn As a result, the skin around the eyes becomes red and inflamed looking, and it COULD have something to do with the redness and hair loss around the mouth as well, since these dogs have such short faces, the itchy eyes cause them to rub their faces on carpets, rough-textured furniture, etc., to seek relief from the itching. The excessive rubbing causes the redness and loss of hair. KCS is very common in all brachycephalic breeds (breeds with pushed-in faces) and breeds with bulging eyes.
Avatar m tn and the vet will probably prescribe cyclosporine drops to help the eye produce more tears. Before you use the cyclosporine drops, be aware that they will sting your dogs eyes, and long term use may contribute to kidney disease...talk this over with your vet. Since your dog is 12 years old, please have annual bloodwork done on him to assess liver and kidney functions...bloodwork should be done on all senior dogs. Best Wishes for you and your dog.....
Avatar f tn Yes I took Cyclosporine for my aquagenic urticaria, it helped so much but not enough to have a normal life :S but maybe for you its going to be different...
Avatar f tn Hi, I would like to know why you started taking cyclosporine when it is not the first drug that should be taken for collagenous colitis. Simple antidiarrheals like loperamide or diphenoxylate are to be taken initially for control of symptoms. If there is no response then other medications like mesalamine, budesonide, immunosuppressants may be tried.
Avatar m tn the only thing I do not agree with on the article is the use of cyclosporine or steroids...these imo should not be used for standard treatment like many Vets like to tell you, they can cause many health problems and should only be used as a last resort.. I also don't recommend shampooing as that can just dry the skin out even more. allergies are due to 3 things. FOOD, INHALANTS or ENVIRONMENTAL. common food allergens are GRAINS in the food or preservatives if you are feeding dry food.
Avatar m tn Could taking less ursodiol have contributed to my diminishing symptoms. What would be the lest acceptable through cyclosporine level for a patient on mono -therapy four and one half years post transplant with no episodes of rejection? Thank you so very much Dr.
Avatar m tn I know that you said that your dog has been on cyclosporine in the past for the treatment of KCS, however has she ever used a product called 'Optimmune"? It's a preparation that contains cyclosporine but it's different from the cyclosporine drops. When eyedrop preparations to treat KCS are made up, they have stabilizers put in so that they don't lose their potency too quickly before the whole preparation can be used.
Avatar n tn to them, so I took him to the vet, afraid he had a sudden case of SARDS. She said no, tested him for dry eye and gave me Cyclosporine drops. I have an appointment with an opthmologist who comes to our town once a month on April 2, but now he seems totally blind. Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there any hope for his eyesight? Surgery?? Thanks to anyone who can respond!
Avatar f tn In some cases, there is a need to treat the underlying cause for resolution of the hair loss. Take care always.
Avatar m tn Close to five years post liver transplant. No rejections, cyclosporine mono -therapy .Also take 300 mg ursodiol 3x daily for bile duct stricture. Vascular hyper-tensions are becoming a real concern. ie heart, palpitations . fluid in ears , vision problems that aren't related to my actual eyes, the opthamologist confirmed, Migraines that have actually gotten better lately. kidney function is still adequate. My liver is doing very good especially with hep-c..
Avatar m tn The specialist reviewed all of the options with us - cyclosporine, pilocarpine or tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said that very rarely has she seen any dog respond to cyclosporine after not responding to tacrolimus. She also said that because our dog doesn't have a dry, goopy nose, that pilocarpine wouldn't be a first choice. She recommended a mix of tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said sirolimus is new. I have not been able to find anything about this drug on the internet.
Avatar n tn If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment thyroid disease. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss. Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones.
Avatar f tn Hi. I am 18 years old, and have been having issues with hair loss. It all began about 2 years ago when I initially switched up my diet and lost weight quite rapidly. I lost my period for about 6 months and my hair shed. I had blood work done then, and no irregularities were present. My hair loss eventually subsidized (although my hair never fully grew back), and my period returned. However, in June I missed my period, and my hair loss returned.
Avatar f tn Hi ! Wow... I had no idea that cyclosporine has been prescribed for various autoimmune diseases and even allergies ! I think it is a shame that many of these wonderful drugs (steriods... Valcyte.... cyclosporine) are immunosuppressants and can have terrible side effects. I'm happy to hear that researchers are working hard to find cures for these conditions and that they are concerned about the rising numbers of people who have these autoimmune problems.
Avatar m tn I use Atopica (Cyclosporine) for my Bulldog and it has been great for him.He has been on all kinds of other meds for his allergies in the past and the Atopica has been the best med of them all.He takes 100mg 2-3 times a week. When he first went on it ,He took it every day for a month then every other day for a month and now he is down to 2-3 a week. His skin was so raw before he went on it.

Avatar n tn In an additional 33 patients, glomerular and tubular NEP protein levels from renal graft biopsies were significantly higher among the 13 patients receiving cyclosporine + EC-MPS than among the 12 patients receiving cyclosporine + azathioprine or 8 patients receiving cyclosporine alone. Glomerular NEP expression inversely correlated with glomerulosclerosis and proteinuria, and tubular NEP expression inversely correlated with interstitial fibrosis.
Avatar f tn Is that normal to loose hair after RAI? i had it done for about 2 1/2 months ago.
Avatar f tn Stress is a huge reason for hair loss on anyone. My mom experienced hair loss while undergoing treatments. I have experienced hair loss for stress, medications for migraines (seizure meds for prevention will do it every time). Also my doctor put me on a great prenatal vitamin that helped with my hair loss and I started to have new growth. Soak with your doctor and see what he recommends. Could be a simple imbalance due to stress in itself or the cancer side effects.
314532 tn?1206415109 Deep repair (which I use), hydrating hair mask. They really help the hair fiber and it will be so much easier for you to comb out! I have also been taking the nioxin recharging complex. As for coloring you hair...I have been coloring my hair through tx and I even permed it recently in hopes to make it look fuller. I have had no problem coloring my hair during tx. Although, I do use all of the nioxin products.
Avatar m tn Hello, Stress can be one of the causes for hair loss. Other than that alopecia aereta should be ruled out. The causes for excessive hair fall may be physiological or pathological and include hormonal changes, fungal infection, physical effects (traction, heat, chemicals), psychological & stress-related reasons, thyroid disorders, iron deficiency anemia, excessive intake of Vitamin A, hereditary reasons etc.
