Avatar n tn it could also be allergies or even demodex (a parasite that is normally found on dogs but sometimes can get outta hand). Demodex - easy just have your vet do a skin scrape and allergies just think if you have used or fed him/her anything new? You can always test for those too.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response. So I guess patients with allergic reactions are like patients who have graft vs. host disease ? It makes me wonder if anti-rejection drugs like cyclosporine would help these people suffering from severe allergies ? I agree that there is some immune dysfunction in allergies. I guess what bothers me is that an estimated 60% of the population now has allergies and there are more and more cases of food allergies diagnosed in children now.
Avatar n tn shampoo frequently, wipe down with baby wipes when he comes in from outside or even have him wear a tee outside. If it's environmental then allergy shots work great but try controlling with baths, wipes, antihistamines 1st. Sometimes 1 antihistamine will work great for awhile and like people you then may need to switch to another. Atopica is a drug that can be costly but very effective.
Avatar m tn t really remember why, but I think it was just because she would not cooperate with the blood draws....eventually she ended up with cyclosporine...but I don't really think that worked the best for her...She hated the drops...and her eyes were never the same as they were with the serum. Anyway....if this is something that you have not tried....you might want to look into it.....Good Luck....
1627010 tn?1299446388 I have an 8 yr old yorkie with severe dry eye. She has had it for several yrs and did pretty good. I was putting 4 kinds of eye drops in her eyes as often as possible. The last 3 or 4 mos her eye has stopped responding to the drops. I've changed all the drops that I give her, added liver happy and cod liver oil to her diet, and it has helped some. Does anyone have any other suggestions that I might try. I do not want her to lose her eye sight.
Avatar f tn Dry eye in dogs is treated with a drug called cyclosporine, which can only be obtained with a prescription from your vet. Please take her back to her former vet or find a new vet to prescribe this medicine for her. Her vision is in jeopardy without it.
Avatar n tn How iron clad is the expiration date for cyclosporine eye drops for dogs?
Avatar f tn Someone asked for suggestions on what to feed itchy dogs/dogs with allergies, though I couldn't find the original question. Anyways, I had suggested grain-free dog foods with limited ingredients, (as most allergic reactions come from food). I just came across another one, by **** Van Patten, "Natural Balance" "Limited Ingredients Diets" which is grain-free and (comes in a purple bag, Sweet Potato & Venison formula).
Avatar m tn • Ensure the dog is neutered • Bathing the dog at least once or twice a week • Wiping the dog with a wet cloth or hand towel daily • Remove the dog from the bedroom, close the bedroom door and air vents to the bedroom • Keep the dog outside or in the garage, or in a part of the home with an uncarpeted floor • Vacuum frequently with a HEPA-equipped vacuum cleaner • Purchase a HEPA room air cleaner for use in the bedroom and/or other parts of the home (it is best to keep the HEPA filter of
Avatar n tn You need to make an appointment with your vet to see what the cause of the redness is. If it's in both ears, it could be caused by allergies or he could have a yeast infection in his ears. A yeast infection, while not as easy to clear up as a run-of-the-mill ear infection, CAN be cured with medication.
Avatar n tn It is sold in powder packets for humans for poison ivy but what you do is mix a 1packet with about 6-8oz of luke warm water and use an oral syringe and squirt it into the dogs ears twice a day. Massage the ear real good and wipe out solution and gunk with some gauze. This will help change the ph in the ear and dry it out but use solution for one day then mix fresh the next day. Do this before putting the drops in that you get from your vet.
209987 tn?1451935465 Usually ear allergies are food related.....Your dogs feet could be food related, environmental, or toxins she walks on daily such as floor cleaners & carpet fresheners.....Try soaking her feet in an Epson Salt bath to get a little relief....This should help..... The sneezing can be caused by any number of things , usually dust mites or again anything she comes in contact with on a regular basis.... You can try the benadryl....The dose is 1mg. per lb. every 8hrs......
Avatar f tn Yes I took Cyclosporine for my aquagenic urticaria, it helped so much but not enough to have a normal life :S but maybe for you its going to be different...
Avatar f tn Hi, I would like to know why you started taking cyclosporine when it is not the first drug that should be taken for collagenous colitis. Simple antidiarrheals like loperamide or diphenoxylate are to be taken initially for control of symptoms. If there is no response then other medications like mesalamine, budesonide, immunosuppressants may be tried.
Avatar f tn I have a pug that was recently diagnosed with dry eye. At first, she was just being treated for conjunctivitis because of the discharge in both eyes. However, after a couple of days we noticed one of her eyes wasn't "glistening" and she was having problems opening it, so we went back to the vet and they did a schirmer? test and came back that she has KCS in her eye. They also did a corneal stain, and showed small a few small ulcers on both eyes.
Avatar n tn Not only would it be unfair to the people who ended up buying the puppies, speaking not only in terms of medical bills but also in terms of watching the dog they love suffer with the allergies, it would be unfair to the dogs themselves, since they would be the ones suffering with the allergies. I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but when it comes to creating new lives, we must be as realistic as possible and strive to do only what's best for the dogs in question.
1790532 tn?1329313506 I understand that problem in a way because my dog is a little like that. She is now better than she was when she first came to me. But still she doesn't do very much, and can look quite sad if I don't join in with her, walk out with her or play with her, and she's been like that all the time I've known her! Part of our problem I feel is because since so many people died that we knew, it's now just the two of us.
Avatar f tn I know how expensive allergies can be to control. Some pointers for you to think about. Diet could be a cheaper answer in the grand scheme of things but to do a true elimination diet you have to try a food that has a limited protein source and make sure that there are no hidden ingredients that could be causing the diet to not be a true elimination.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
Avatar f tn hey guys, I'm 4 weeks pregnant and the whole time I've been getting sinus allergies from mine and my partners dogs!!
