I have been taking 1000 mg Niaspan for six years to treat genetically high Lipoprotein(a). Now my physician wants to stop the Niaspan and begin a very small dose of Crestor. His reason is due to a recent study indicating Niaspan as a risk of causing bleeding and/or infection problems. I have already had one bad experience with another statin, Advicor, that resulted in me having permanent lymphedema in my ankles and legs. Now I am unsure about Niaspan.
Fenofibrate in combination with a Statin drug can cause severe Rhabdomyolysis. I know because I have gone through it. My muscle pain got so severe that I couldn't even move my arms and I wound up in the ER with kidney (also a muscle) pain so severe, I was climbing the walls.
I am diabetic since 6 years, two years back i discovered that my Lipo is high( cholestrol 290, LDL and HDL),i start taking Crestor and after that i discovered that my CPK level is 600. i stoped it for two months and went down to 450 , due being Hypolipid i couldn't control cholestrol by exercise or food so i changed three doctors and each gave me a different Statins and the CPK now reaches 1375 . , i tried Ezytrol for a while but it's effect was very low .
My GP has immediately put me on a daily low dose asprin and 20mg Crestor and has requested I have a Mycocardial Perfusion Scan and intends for me to see a cardiologist who he says may do an angiogram and possible stent. I am male, almost 60, 5'11, 92kgs and have a good diet (losts of fruit and veges with little deep fried) although I do not exercise as much as I should.
my doc took me off simvastatin and changed me to the lowest dose of crestor 5 mg.
What will happen if an athlete with Rhabdomyolysis continues to play his sport? What will happen in the long run?
I started on simvastatins 40 mg every night about 5 months ago. I suffered the same pains and spoke to my cardilolgist. He checked my cholesterol again and found that my good cholesterol level had fallen below the base figure. He changed me from simvastatin to Crestor Rouvastain 10mg each night, and they don't give me any side effects and my good cholesterol has started to rise again. The one thing I have learnt is to take them before i go to sleep at night.
The authors concluded that, in apparently healthy persons with elevated C-reactive protein levels, rosuvastatin (Crestor) significantly reduced the incidence of major cardiovascular events.
Their much-publicized claim, that this statin lowers the risk of heart attack by approximately one half, is technically correct though highly misleading. The reported annual incidence of coronary events was 37 people in 10,000 (controls) and 17 people in 10,000 (treated).
) I have high cholesterol (240) currently on crestor, difficulty losing weight (unless I eat practically nothing), forgetfulness...etc. I took levothyroxin for years but really never saw any significant changes in those symptoms. I never did any research just figured that was the way it is was going to always be. We moved a year ago to a much colder climate (hence the self diagnosis of raynauds) and took my sweet time finding a new doctor.
Since you know your CK levels, I assume you've seen a doctor about this? Do you have other symptoms, like muscle tenderness, nausea, etc?
In any case, high CK and dark urine are among the signs of rhabdomyolysis (google it), which is not a Good Thing. It's a breakdown of skeletal muscle. It can be caused by too- vigorous exercise, especially when dehydrated, among other things.
Could my shortness of breath. weakness and aching be cause by Crestor? I have seen a pulmonary doctor and a cardiologist. They say my heart and lungs are fine.
This intense pain is a symptom of rhabdomyolysis,a rare condition that causes muscle cells to break down. This does not make your muscle tissue "mushy", it just causes cells t breakdown.
The most common signs and symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include:
* Severe muscle aching throughout the entire body
* Muscle weakness
* Dark or cola-colored urine
These symptoms usually occur in the first 90 days of treatment and happen in less than 1% of those taking Lipitor.
Rhabdomyolysis is a life-threatening condition that results from myositis, a condition which destroys muscle cells causing pain, particularly in the calves and lower back. The condition can become so severe that it leads to kidney failure. Symptoms of rhabdomyolysis include, but may not be limited to, muscle pain, weakness, tenderness, fever, dark urine, nausea, and vomiting.
MB bands which are Cardiac Bands and MM bands which are muscle bands. Weight lifters or people with rhabdomyolysis can knock the MM bands way out of whack. Muscle breakdown will throw the MM band quite high.
I have taken Crestor 10 mg for 6 weeks and then my hair started falling out. Anyone experience this? Tests ruled out any other source of problem.
hi! My Dr put me on Crestor, 40 mg once a day for high cholesterol and coronary plaque buildup..... Today is my 4th day taking it. Ive seen the commercials...and Ive researched online...It seems ok...Ive tolerated Lipitor in the past with absolutly NO side effects.
I just noticed today that i seem to be sore...in my shoulder and neck.... as when I would shrug my shoulders...the muscles there seem sore when I do that.
Now, maybe I did something...? Sat the wrong way, slept the wrong way...
About 4 years ago, I was overworked by a personal trainer in the gym and ended up in the hospital for 5 days due to Rhabdomyolysis. I had never heard of this disease before this day. Turns out the trainer overworked me. Needless to say, I am not a big fan of exercise since then. I've dabbled with it over the past few years.
My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
