My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
But my best lipid results ( raising HDL, lowering LDL and Lp(a) ) came from taking RX Niacin which I take with the 10 mg Crestor and 325 mg aspirin at bedtime.No problems with Niacin either.I take RX fish oil also as I am in big time prevention mode due to cardiac microvascular dysfunction.Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.
I can't really comment on Niaspan. I took it for about half a year, then I had my Cholesterol checked and there was absolutely zero reduction. I had taken 400 mg and they told me, you'ld have to take 1000 mg for it to have any effect - so I stopped it. Crestor is a different story. I took it for six months and developed rhabdomyolysis. It was so bad that I tore a tendon in my back - extremely painful. That was the end of that.
Could my shortness of breath. weakness and aching be cause by Crestor? I have seen a pulmonary doctor and a cardiologist. They say my heart and lungs are fine.
You should not take red rice yeast with Crestor. Some natural ways to treat high blood pressure are to increase aerobic exercise, limit salt intake to 2,400 mg, trying to eat at least 3,500 mg of potassium a day, from foods such as yogurt, cantaloupe, spinach, and bananas, limit alcohol consumption, and even trying some forms of meditation. Some supplements that may help with blood sugar are GTF chromium, magnesium, Alpha-lipoic acid, and Coenzyme Q10.
I am taking Crestor 20 mg a day, my ejection factor is 55 which they say is normal but I still take all these medicines for Congestive Heart Failure. Have you ever been tested for Atrial Fibrillation? If not, it is very important. It's when your heart races real fast. I have it and I am 61 years old but I take Multaq and Digoxin in very small doses. Some days I feel so weak. It seems like after four hours of doing anything, I have to rest.

1 month later he was not saticfied with the drop in cholestoral so he put me on a fairley new drug called Trilipix. I take 10mg of lisinopril for high blood pressure, 10 mg of crestor, and 145mg of trilipix. After being put on the trilipix I started felling tired and having stomache problems (constipated and cramping). I went back to have my a1c check last week and it was 8.0.
what happens if you take more effexore than your prescribed like if you take 140 mg or 210 mg will you feel betterr....
My brother (41) is a runner and started taking Crestor when his total cholesterol reached 259 (he was also having slight chest pains---all testing came out normal).
My question: Looks like I have it in my cards that I will eventually need to start taking a statin. I am curious to see your thought as to when someone should start taking it. I am nervous about my high numbers as I thought I was doing everything correctly.

I am begining to suspect the 10 mg crestor that I take daily fis maybe causing genital itching.
I am thinking about switching to a much lower cost Pravachol, actually I think the genric form is 10 bucks for 90 days at wlamart.
anybody feel that crestor may be a cause for genital itching? More specifically has anybody out there stopped taking Crestor and have that itching go away?
Or did anybody switch from one to the other and do it have an affect on the itching?
Finally found a great doctor who decided to try me on dual meds, that being Zocor, still at 60 mg daily, and 2000 mg niaspan. My levels have all been in the excellent range since.
To mmmhady: When getting your CPK levels, what levels are they actually testing you for? There are three CPK levels that they test: Heart, skeletal muscular system, and brain. Have you been diagnosed with a history of rhabdomyolysis?

I'm in a similar situation. Total cholesterol is 231 - my LDL is 117 but my HDL is 104. Triglycerides are 48. I'm supposed to be taking 20 mg of Crestor a day but to be honest, I cut them in half and only take 10. Of course I've had two heart surgeries but these were due to my aortic valve, not any problem with my arteries. I can't help but feel that I don't really need to be on Crestor.
I'll be interested to hear what the doctor says.

Topromax 100 mg bid; Zoloft 200 mg @ hs; Xanax 0.5 mg @ hs PRN and oxycodone 5 mg 2 tabs bid for chronic pain. The red yeast rice will be for reducing my elevated Cholesterol as noted: (VLDL=18; TRIGLYCERIDES=92; LDL=155; HDL=59; TOTAL CHOLESTEROL=232). I was initially prescribed Crestor 5 mg by my PCP but due to some severe side affects I stopped taking it.
