My brother (41) is a runner and started taking Crestor when his total cholesterol reached 259 (he was also having slight chest pains---all testing came out normal).
My question: Looks like I have it in my cards that I will eventually need to start taking a statin. I am curious to see your thought as to when someone should start taking it. I am nervous about my high numbers as I thought I was doing everything correctly.

Could my shortness of breath. weakness and aching be cause by Crestor? I have seen a pulmonary doctor and a cardiologist. They say my heart and lungs are fine.
I am a very health 62 y.o. female, 5'6" tall, non-smoker, and have never weighed more than 130 lbs. I eat healthily and exercise regularly. For the past 3 years, my cholesterol readings have been - Total: 213, HDL: 90, LDL: 119, Total to High ratio: 2. My physician wants to prescribe a cholesterol lowering medication. I have been resistant to taking medication since the HDL and Total Ratio are so good.
m actually a Personal Trainer), but have a major family history of heart disease. My sister had a triple bypass at the age of 33, an Aunt passed away at 45 and grandfather at 36 of a sudden cardiac event. Anyway, my cardiologist wants to put me on a statin, Crestor, to lower my LDL. My total cholesterol is 189, LDL is 118 and HDL is over 60. The reason for the statin is I have a Lpa level of 69. I really don't want to go on a statin if it's not necessary due to side effects.
My GP has immediately put me on a daily low dose asprin and 20mg Crestor and has requested I have a Mycocardial Perfusion Scan and intends for me to see a cardiologist who he says may do an angiogram and possible stent. I am male, almost 60, 5'11, 92kgs and have a good diet (losts of fruit and veges with little deep fried) although I do not exercise as much as I should.
I have taken Crestor 10 mg for 6 weeks and then my hair started falling out. Anyone experience this? Tests ruled out any other source of problem.
hi! My Dr put me on Crestor, 40 mg once a day for high cholesterol and coronary plaque buildup..... Today is my 4th day taking it. Ive seen the commercials...and Ive researched online...It seems ok...Ive tolerated Lipitor in the past with absolutly NO side effects.
I just noticed today that i seem to be sore...in my shoulder and neck.... as when I would shrug my shoulders...the muscles there seem sore when I do that.
Now, maybe I did something...? Sat the wrong way, slept the wrong way...
My cardiologist said as the position s at the distal part, stent cannot be proceeded as it is less than 2mm diameter. And the risk is relatively low as the functions can be performed by others. He just reminded me to take the liptor to maintain a healthy level.
I am a healthy 50 year old male with family history of ASHD in my father who died at age 57 of the same. I recently (last two weeks) had a Berkley Heartlab panel done with findings of LDL 133 and LP(a) of 102. Also APOe genotype of 3/4. My MD advised Crestor and Niaspan. I took it upon myself to have an Ultrafast CT scan of the heart and the total score came back at 9.54, putting me in the lowest risk category.
I am diabetic since 6 years, two years back i discovered that my Lipo is high( cholestrol 290, LDL and HDL),i start taking Crestor and after that i discovered that my CPK level is 600. i stoped it for two months and went down to 450 , due being Hypolipid i couldn't control cholestrol by exercise or food so i changed three doctors and each gave me a different Statins and the CPK now reaches 1375 . , i tried Ezytrol for a while but it's effect was very low .
My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
Both ineffective. Presently taking Crestor for cholesterol. More so for raising my good cholesterol. Also taking xalaton and timolol for glaucoma. History of grade 1 transitional cell bladder cancer. Remission for 6 years.
I'm 57 years old male with permanent AFIB and High Blood since 2002. I am taking Propranolol, Digoxin, Warfarin, Zestril/hctz, and Crestor. I've seen a cardiologist in 2010. He tried a cardioaversion it worked for a few days and went back. He seems to think it was my sleep apnea that caused it to go back. I went on a BI-PAP machine since then in July 2010. Nothing is really getting any better. I get weak,light-headed and foggy at times. How should I proceed with my treatment?
I was put on Lipitior and it raised my liver enzymes. Now I am on Crestor and it works great and cholesterol is normal.
I started on crestor, than realized I am ttc and starting not feeling well and am on my ttw...I test for my pregnancy saturday. I took the crestor for 4 days than stopped and its been a little over a week. Should I restart and then stop if pregnant or not bother because of the possibility of there being a fetus?
I am just worried about my health.
I had been taking crestor for many years and where I worked switched insurances. Needless to say the new insurance did not see it fit to pay for Crestor and I was switched to Simvastatin.
I used to never think anything of it but I did not have any of these problems prior to taking this new medicine, I cannot get any doctors to confirm this could be the problem so I chose to quit taking it myself. Seems like I do not have any problem when not taking the medicine.
I have been taking 1000 mg Niaspan for six years to treat genetically high Lipoprotein(a). Now my physician wants to stop the Niaspan and begin a very small dose of Crestor. His reason is due to a recent study indicating Niaspan as a risk of causing bleeding and/or infection problems. I have already had one bad experience with another statin, Advicor, that resulted in me having permanent lymphedema in my ankles and legs. Now I am unsure about Niaspan.
I did some research on crestor after I posted my first question and saw that there have been lots of issues with Crestor raising blood sugars in type 2 diabetics. The Crestor site even says that this can happen. If you google Crestor raising blood sugars there are many websites that come up. I am not disputing the fact that diabetes is progressive, but it is just so odd that days after starting these meds my blood sugars started getting out of wack.
