Common Questions and Answers about Crestor and triglycerides

crestor

Avatar n tn My serum profile showed that I have high triglycerides (200) and cholesterol (220). Will it affect my chances to get medical clearance for a United Nations agency.
Avatar n tn 1) In studies comparing equal doses of Crestor to Lipitor, Crestor has been shown to lower LDL levels ~10% and increase HDL levels 2-4% more than Lipitor. Your triglyerides, total cholesterol, and LDL's are in the optimal range, and your HDL level is in the middle. Based on these numbers, there doesn't seem to be a need to switch to Crestor. 2) There is little evidence on the use of EPA alone.
315318 tn?1353251800 Recently , I was prescribed a fenofibrate (Trilipix 135 mg) along with Crestor. My cardio wanted this for helping in getting my triglycerides down. I have not had a lipid profile done since starting on this med two months ago. However, since being a diabetic , I check my blood glucose (BG) many times during the day and what I am noticing is a clear trend in the BG numbers going lower at least over the last month or so.
Avatar f tn Alcohol metabolizes as sugar and increases TGLs. Stop drinking and your number should drop. Also, cut out all empty carbs such as breads and pastas as well.
1716017 tn?1308792330 Other than the limited test results you have not mentioned any other symptoms. Please tell us about any symptoms you have noticed. Now, if it were me, before making that decision I would want to see test results for the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4 (not the same as Total T3 and T4).
Avatar n tn Hi there, I'm in a similar situation. Total cholesterol is 231 - my LDL is 117 but my HDL is 104. Triglycerides are 48. I'm supposed to be taking 20 mg of Crestor a day but to be honest, I cut them in half and only take 10. Of course I've had two heart surgeries but these were due to my aortic valve, not any problem with my arteries. I can't help but feel that I don't really need to be on Crestor. I'll be interested to hear what the doctor says. Take care. Cheers!
Avatar n tn My VLDL Calculation 19 and LDL 255. My doctor was concerned and put me on 10mg of Crestor. That was a month ago and I am due for another blood work up in a few weeks. Reccently (twice) my hearing got fuzzy and I got a little dizzy. It cleared up after a few hours. Should I be concerned. I feel like a walking heart or stroke candidate. I am a 56 year old woman with parents who have had high cholesterol and a 26 year old niece who has also had high numbers.
7052683 tn?1392938795 t really work on the cholesterol only the triglycerides. The cough, and sore throat are not symptoms of Niaspan. So it sounds like more likely a virus. If you had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics you would have had a rash, hives, swelling of the throat or breathing problems, something other than the symptoms you describe. A virus can make your stomach feel like it has been torn up. Stay hydrated. Hope this helps. Check out the diet on drmcdougall.
Avatar f tn Cholesterol is made in the liver and statins inhibit the production of too much bad cholesterol and triglycerides. In SOME people the liver can be effected in other ways and this is why blood tests should be run to ensure things are normal. If you have low cholesterol, then I agree that cholesterol is probably not the major issue.
Avatar n tn I take Tricor for the triglycerides and 20mg of Crestor daily. I also exercise 5 days a week for 1/2 hour - 1 hour and medidate to keep my stress levels down. Don't panic, but be preemptive in the approach to your husbands heart health. Get a check of his calcification, but also demand a nuclear stress test. You can have low calcification and still have diffuse or even single spot "soft plaque".
Avatar n tn I am diabetic since 6 years, two years back i discovered that my Lipo is high( cholestrol 290, LDL and HDL),i start taking Crestor and after that i discovered that my CPK level is 600. i stoped it for two months and went down to 450 , due being Hypolipid i couldn't control cholestrol by exercise or food so i changed three doctors and each gave me a different Statins and the CPK now reaches 1375 . , i tried Ezytrol for a while but it's effect was very low .
387767 tn?1345872027 I have extremely high cholesterol and triglycerides, and have been on and off statins, They have destroyed my muscles and joints, so I can't take them anymore because of the pain and inflammation. I have genetic, familial hypercholestemia. Looking for alternative--has anyone tried red yeast rice? Results?
Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
Avatar n tn Your VLDL is actually in the right range and looks good, your HDL is actually awesome as well and his higher than the ideal range, And your triglycerides are also well within a healthy range. Those three areas of your cholesterol are excellent and you wouldn't need to change them in any way. The number that was high was your LDL which now is below the cut off of 100. You do not report any coronary artery disease (when someone has this, they would like LDL to be 70 or below).
Avatar n tn s not that strong, and is usually used in combination with other things to cut cholesterol, including exercise and dietary changes. As to contraindications, you'll have to research that. None that I know of with what you're taking, but this gets complicated since nobody's really researched actual use of natural remedies in conjunction with meds, meaning it's largely theoretical based on the active ingredients in the different substances.
Avatar f tn Supplements that may help include plant stanols or sterols (margarines such as Benecol or Take Control contain these ingredients), red yeast rice and fish oil (especially if your triglycerides are elevated). Also, an increase in the fiber content of your diet will help to lower your total cholesterol (high fiber cereals, beans, fruits, etc). You may want to refer to the American Heart Association "No Fad Diet" for more specific information on diet.
Avatar f tn I started on crestor, than realized I am ttc and starting not feeling well and am on my ttw...I test for my pregnancy saturday. I took the crestor for 4 days than stopped and its been a little over a week. Should I restart and then stop if pregnant or not bother because of the possibility of there being a fetus? I am just worried about my health.
Avatar n tn The weakness and aching are signs of rhabdomyalgia which is a side affect of statin drugs. You need to see the doctor that prescribed the meds as he/she needs to check you. I don't know about the shortness of breath. It could be a drug reaction too.
Avatar f tn My husband had high cholesterol and high triglycerides. He refused statins, uses a variety of supplements and keeps his weight down. He has his cholesterol under control. By the way, high cholesterol runs in his family.
Avatar f tn I was put on Lipitior and it raised my liver enzymes. Now I am on Crestor and it works great and cholesterol is normal.
Avatar n tn Has anyone gotten worsening of their PVC's from taking a statin drug? I seem to be intolerant of these drugs and have tried Crestor, Lipitor and Lescol. My PVC's go absolutely nuts when I take them. I have done my own tests by going off and on them. I consistently get worse when I'm on them. I take C0Q10 and a whole bunch of supplements including magnesium to no avail. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn A recent check up showed 50% blockage. Why is this so. I thought it should be all clear. I am taking Crestor and Sotalol, plus exercise and careful diet.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
