Common Questions and Answers about Cpap vs bipap for chf

cpap

Avatar n tn m sure I had it for at least 20 years. I was prescibed bipap treatment and I am happy to say all the CHF symptoms stopped. It's been 10 years and I've never taken so much as a catnap without my trusty bipap strapped on! Recently, I've had some sinus issues, but that is far better than the heart failure that comes from untreated sleep apnea.
Avatar m tn Pretty sure that I need BiPap instead of CPAP. The exhale pressure is too high on CPAP even with the EPR maxed at 3 and a setting of 7cm to 9cm. I've read that someone had anxiety on CPAP and switched to BiPap and it was fine. There are times when I feel so tired that I could faint. Has anyone had any similar crazy symptoms like this?
Avatar f tn I have a CPAP machine , but I can't use it the air rushes in so fast I choke, I just went for a BIPAP sleep study, it was awesome. I slept like a baby. the difference is the Bipap adjusts to your breathing and it didn't choke me. so now I'm waiting for the machine. the sleep apnea isn't too bad, but my narcolepsy is so difficult to manage. I haven't been outside after 6:00pm in about two years, my medication runs out around 4:00pm so I can't drive.
Avatar n tn I finally convinced my primary care physician to write a prescription for cpap. You need a prescription for a cpap machine since it is a medical device - it is illegal to sell it without one. As someone with undiagnosed UARS, I will tell you that the dental device (TAP, Somnodent) is much better first-line treatment. It took me 3 months to adjust the dental devices to reach the optimum lower jaw advancement setting. I have tried both the cpap and TAP and Somnodent dental devices.
Avatar f tn And some nites it is fine but other nites I simply CANNOT push the air back out and that is why I thought that the Bipap might work better for me. Of course I have a call in to my Dr. and should hear from him tomorrow (Or I guess it's today already) but I was wondering if anyone had the same problem as me. I didn't even know what a Bipap did until someone told me about it and I started researching.
771990 tn?1341779376 Or perhaps you are coming down with a bit of a cold but are at the beginning phase of it. I found BiPap to be easier on me than CPap because of the two pressures, it made it easier to breathe out than to try and do that against the constant pressure of Cpap.
222135 tn?1236488221 Any one use a CPAP or BiPAP? Can you tell me how long it took you to get used to sleeping with it? Do you really feel better? Waiting to get mine and not too thrilled about it. I hated it when I had to do the titration stay for CPAP. Really did not like the way it felt. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn How do I avoid swollen eyelids every morning after sleeping with CPAP? This discussion is related to Swollen eyes & CPAP.
505751 tn?1225032462 I just found out that I have severe complex sleep apnea with central sleep apnea being the main problem. I go back tonight for another study and to get the CPAP. I am also in the middle a lot of test because my new neurologist is 99% sure I have MS. My question is for those of you already DX with MS - is this sort of sleep apnea common? If so did a CPAP help?
Avatar m tn in some disorders like muscular dystrophies, BiPAP is advocated. Bilevel positive airway pressure, is similar to CPAP therapy. However with BiPAP therapy there are two different pressure settings for the patient. It can be described as pressure controlled ventilation in a system allowing unrestricted spontaneous breathing, as the pressures vary for inspiration and expiration. So, it could help improve your O2 sats.
Avatar n tn I have severe asthma AND VCD. I was recently started on CPAP for a mild case of sleep apnea. I hate it! I can't breathe with the machine on and it gives me headaches. I'm not sleeping any better with it than I was without it. I'm still waking up at least once per night needing to do a neb treatment. I also have fibromyalgia and PD, so I'm up several times per night due to pain, which the CPAP doesn't help.
3227046 tn?1458313476 Dr says bipap use during sleep study is way to go after cpap was not. I couldn't fall asleep using cpap. Normally i fall asleep so fast i dont remember falling asleep. Twice while eating, with partially chewed food on my mouth ,many times in my driveway after a short drive, during movies always..it's unreal.i have no life and beginning heart failure. I'm changed to healthy eating, alkaline, leafy green, organic etc.does anyone think this bioap is going to really help me.
Avatar n tn I USED A BIPAP MACHINE THAT WAS NOT SET AT THE PROPER LEVELS AND WREAKED HAVOC WITH MY HEALTH. I WAS ALSO DRY, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A WATER RESEVOIR. MY APNEA WAS BAD, OVER 60TIMES PER MINUTE AS I WAS TOLD. I WAS OBESE AND USED O2 WITH THE BIPAP AT NIGHT, AND DURING THE DAY. MY O2 LEVELS WERE TOO LOW WITHOUT IT. I HAD BARIATRIC SURGERY, WHICH OF COURSE HAD IT'S RISKS, MY LUNGS WERE NOT IN GOOD SHAPE. I HAVE LOST OVER 100 LBS AND NO LONGER NEED O2 OR BIPAP OR MEDS FOR COPD.
Avatar m tn I have sleep Apena and its not as major as one might think. It can usually be controlled with a CPAP or BiPAP machine.
Avatar m tn coughing, sinus drainage), and you are using a CPAP/BiPAP machine then yes, it can be related if your not keeping your equipment clean. it can also cause headaches/migraines.
702513 tn?1228512697 My husband was diagnosed with Central Sleep Apnea. He has been to 5 Repiratory Specialists, 7 neurologists, tried CPAP, now on BiPap. Long story short -- the Bi-Pap isn't working. He is falling asleep behind the wheel and at work, incoherent, etc. Oh...he is also an insomniac, has chronic migraines, chronic pain, and is on 10 medications. Needless to say, we have no life anymore.
Avatar f tn Where as, a BiPAP machine allows the air that is delivered through the mask to be set at one pressure for inhaling and another for exhaling. This makes it much easier for the user to adapt to the apparatus and allows a person who has a neuromuscular disease to use the device. These dual settings also allow the user to get more air in and out of his or her lungs. So, discuss these options with your doctor and wish you luck. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I've been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. I also have major sinus problems. I've tried the bipap and cpap machines with many different mask and can't find anything I can tolerate. The mask is one thing, but the air being forced causes my sinus problems to increase by stopping up my nose which makes me breathe through my mouth which as everyone knows won't work. Does anyone have issues close to what I have or any other suggestions.
Avatar m tn Hi, ensure to use the CPAP machine regularly. Go for regular follow ups with your doctor to check to see if the apneas are under control and if your sleep is adequate. You could start by trying them for very short periods and then increase the timing as you get more comfortable. Alternatively, you could try BiPAP, which is a bi level pressure device, which regulates according to inspiration and expiration, and hence is more comfortable.
Avatar m tn I have been trialed on a CPAP machine, despite getting to a drowsy stage I am unable to get into a deeper sleep and I am conscious throughout entire night and this has been told to me that I enter stage 1 sleep during this time. I have used the CPAP machine for 3 months now with no improvement in sleep. I am 30 years old with a low BMI and am certainly not typical sleep apnea sufferer I barely function during the day and cant seem to get into quality sleep despite how exhausted I be.
Avatar m tn You said you were "diagnosed" with sleep apnea. Did you do a follow-up sleep test (polysomnography with titration)? Or, did they actually put a CPAP mask on you during your test(s) at the laboratory? If not, you may need to see your sleep physician again and have a PSGT (Polysomnography with titration). If your problem is not "simple" obstructive sleep apnea, CPAP/BiPAP/AutoPAP, etc. may not meet your needs.
