Cpap vs vpap

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap vs vpap

cpap

Avatar m tn Did not help at all, but made CPAP a little more tolerable. (First few tries with CPAP gave me very bad sinus headaches.) RDI went up a little. CPAP is not working well as I still have a lot of nasal blockage when I lay down. Wake up after about 3-4 hours with a very sore throat. Tried oral appliance. Wake up after a few hours with a stuffed nose. Dentist noticed nasal blockage due to nose injury (football) and referred me to an ENT. Have done 2 RF turbinate reductions.
Avatar f tn • With use of a CPAP or bilevel, they show a pattern of central apneas and hypopneas that meets the Centers for Medicare Services (CMS) definition of CSA Patients with CompSA may be seen as those who cannot tolerate conventional CPAP or bilevel therapy both during lab titration and at home. Neither CPAP nor bilevel therapy seems to alleviate their sleep disorders.
Avatar f tn s I have severe sleep apnea and once the dr looks over the entire report I will get set up with a CPAP machine. They said I stopped breathing around 35 times an hour. And anything more than 15 is severe. My question is... Any advice for navigating sleeping with the machine? My issue is chiari (6mm), neck issues and lower back issues that keeps me from sleeping on my back. But with the machine I'm understanding that's how you sleep.
Avatar f tn I have been having chronic fatigue for a couple of years. Past year got so bad I almost had several MVA's. Finally went in and was tested. Severe sleep apnea and PLM's (alot of them). Cpap at 10cm helped daytime fatigue and I am sleeping better but still aytime fatigue. Provagil helps but not with driving. Ritalin, adderal not helping with that yet. Still testing for Hypersomnia vs Narcolepsy. Repeat sleep study showed very little Apnea but still some PLM's.
1767141 tn?1313678474 I have positional sleep apnea but do not tolerate CPAP or Auto-pap well due to extremely dry mouth which is worse now after surgery to correct long-term acid reflux which burned my mouth and throat. I awaken very early even wearing CPAP or Auto-pap. I am only a little over 2 weeks out of the surgery I had and the GERD/reflux was very bad and made my apnea worse.
Avatar n tn I have been dealing with insomnia for about six months. Initially, I was prescribed a combination of Remeron and Ativan to help me sleep. The side effects were fairly severe. I was going through my day very dizzy, and felt like I was in a dream state the whole day. I'm now taking only 30mg. of remeron and have been doing so for about two months. I'm getting some sleep, but my sleep is interrupted and I wake frequently during the night.
4915340 tn?1360965940 previous to Oct 22, 2012, my BP has historically been 110-120/80 and I never had headaches. I was diagnosed with UARS in 2005 but was given a CPAP with a nasal-aire vs a full face mask and any time I was stuffy I would discard the use of my CPAP. I haven't used it for several years now. The doctors are baffled, my sleep study did not reveal OSA (but when I mentioned UARS they looked like they were unaware of what that was).
Avatar f tn However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study. I have used CPAP faithfully for 3 months, trying every setting from 5 to 9 cm. None of these pressures restore my sleep - I am waking every hour or so and feeling as tired as ever.
Avatar f tn s not the usual for a new bipap (or cpap/apap/vpap) user to be immediately comfortable and able to keep the mask on 7 hours a night, but it is possible to achieve this goal. I thought I'd never be able to do it, and now I'm perfectly comfortable. If the mask you have doesn't work for you, talk to your supplier and tell them. Don't suffer in silence or give up. Without knowing the full results of your sleep study, I'm not sure what very light sleep apnea means.
Avatar m tn I have been utilizing my CPAP treatment since my diagnosis and until this year, when I moved and began seeing a new doctor, I have had my machine on automatic titration. My new doctor said that this was not a good thing and I went through a titration study. My machine is now set to a setting of 9. Previously, when my machine was on automatic, my machine was exerting pressures to 22 at certain points in time throughout the night.
Avatar f tn I was sent home from the hospital with a temporary cpap and am being scheduled for a sleep study. I am having trouble using the cpap machine. I am afraid to sleep as the doctor did say that with this apnea the brain forgets to tell you to breath. They said my oxygen levels dropped to 64 during the night. I have developed swollen legs, ankles and feet. Should I call the doctor about this or just wait till after the study. The swelling will go down if I am laying down most of the day.
Avatar m tn I also use Xanax on an occasional basis when I'm having sleep difficulties. I like it because I have never felt hung over and it helps me sleep even if it is restless limbs that have me awake. The sleeping pills I have tried either leave me hung-over, awake in a few hours, or staggering around as I try to escape the increased RLS symptoms they produce. I haven't tried klonipin but I have tried a few different muscle relaxants here and there.
Avatar n tn i just went for my second sleep study to be hooked up to the cpap. the first one said i quit breathing and was breathing very shallow. once i get my new machine how long will it take to be back to 100%. i could tell the morning after that i did feel a little better and did not have a headaache.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
Avatar n tn since using cpap machine started swelling in feet, ankles, hands and stomach. stopped using machine for 4 days swelling went away. started using again for 3 days swelling came back.
Avatar n tn She is very slender, tall, smart, and healthy, but does not sleep. She has been on cpap, pressure of 7 for 3 years without much success. She has had her tonsils and adnoids out. The specialist we see is apparently one of the top Dr's in Canada, but is stumped at why she is not responding well to the cpap. On a good night, she will get an average of 4 hours sleep, but we don't have very many good nights, so its usually less than 3.
Avatar m tn ve lived my life in a state of exhaustion, until use of my cpap machine, and that has often caused very bad seizures. Without my cpap machine, I don't think I'd be here making this post.
Avatar m tn I noticed I had gained over 6 pounds since starting CPAP. After just one night without the CPAP I dropped 3 pounds, which I believe is all fluids. My question is this: Could CPAP use cause your kidneys not to filter out fluids from your blood? When using CPAP I do not get up during the night to urinate. After one night without using CPAP I did get up to go to the bathroom, my weight dropped by 3 pounds and the pain is greatly reduced.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Bilateral diaphragmatic paralysis in Jan this year (2008) Iv been told by my specialist that it may or may not improve but most likely will improve but could take up to 2 years or more to get back to any normality I have to use a vpap machine to sleep as when I sit or lay back any further than about 45degs my lungs slow untill I cant get any air in or out Im 32 male the condidion seemed to just come on over about a week my diaphragm just slowed untill it just stoped working
Avatar n tn I have been using a CPAP machine for almost 3 months. From the night I used it I did not wake to go to the bathroom during the night. Although this was nice, I developed a problem immediately (from the first night) with swelling in my legs (calves, ankles, feet) and in my hands. I did NOT mention it to the sleep doctor because It was a month until my follow-up appointment and I never saw it listed as a side effect of CPAP therapy in materials I read.
