Cpap vs tap

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap vs tap

cpap

Avatar m tn 3 years of trying every mask and chin strap and with another PES sleep study to verify pressure, we finally gave up on CPAP and he moved to a TAP appliance. My son has very sensitive skin and tried his best to adjust. The TAP appliance has been a better fit for him. Most recent sleep study with the TAP appliance IN showed obstructive respirations and possibly needing some treatment by adding CPAP (using TAP PAP contraption).
Avatar m tn I wear TAP 3 appliance. Did a sleep study with Resmed Appnealink Plus. 4 Apnea, 12 Hypoapnea/M , AHI 19, Average O2 saturation 93%, lowest 83% once, pulse h 101, low 50, avg 74 then I wore Auto CPAP s9 along with TAP3 and AHI was 0, All Apnea are gone, O2 average was 95% but lowest desaturation episode was 76%, once, pulse H 104,lowest 47 and average 72 Why does this lowest desaturation event up to 83% occur even with CPAP ? Is this a clinically significant to seek an opinion ?
Avatar f tn I can't wear the CPAP mask or the mouth piece even though I have both obstructive and central sleep apnea where my oxygen levels go down to 60%. I had a carotid artery dissection stroke about 5 years ago with continuing disabilities. I am concerned about the risk of having another stroke which has a greater chance of mortality and poorer rehab.
Avatar n tn My young neighbor just had a baby by C-section (they cut large up and down vs. small and across). The doctors subsequently performed a spinal tap. She is experiencing severe headaches which I know is not unusual. However, she is experiencing leaking of spinal fluid into her system. The doctors then performed a blood patch, which was unsuccessful, and which created another hole in her back. This poor young girl is flat on her back, in pain, with a baby to take care of.
Avatar n tn One good option is to use nasal saline irrigation regularly, especially before you use your CPAP machine. Pick one that is vigorous or forceful, and not the gentle mist kind. Saline acts a a decongestant, and should help to open up your nose and sinus passageways. I would also find better ways of dealing with your stress. One simple options is to learn deep-breathing exercises. You can get DVDs or videos, or even take yoga or tai chi classes. Regular exercise is also very important.
Avatar f tn I have been having chronic fatigue for a couple of years. Past year got so bad I almost had several MVA's. Finally went in and was tested. Severe sleep apnea and PLM's (alot of them). Cpap at 10cm helped daytime fatigue and I am sleeping better but still aytime fatigue. Provagil helps but not with driving. Ritalin, adderal not helping with that yet. Still testing for Hypersomnia vs Narcolepsy. Repeat sleep study showed very little Apnea but still some PLM's.
Avatar n tn I have been dealing with insomnia for about six months. Initially, I was prescribed a combination of Remeron and Ativan to help me sleep. The side effects were fairly severe. I was going through my day very dizzy, and felt like I was in a dream state the whole day. I'm now taking only 30mg. of remeron and have been doing so for about two months. I'm getting some sleep, but my sleep is interrupted and I wake frequently during the night.
4915340 tn?1360965940 previous to Oct 22, 2012, my BP has historically been 110-120/80 and I never had headaches. I was diagnosed with UARS in 2005 but was given a CPAP with a nasal-aire vs a full face mask and any time I was stuffy I would discard the use of my CPAP. I haven't used it for several years now. The doctors are baffled, my sleep study did not reveal OSA (but when I mentioned UARS they looked like they were unaware of what that was).
Avatar f tn However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study. I have used CPAP faithfully for 3 months, trying every setting from 5 to 9 cm. None of these pressures restore my sleep - I am waking every hour or so and feeling as tired as ever.
Avatar f tn I developed more symptoms a few months later, so I saw a different neurologist. The MRI was normal. As a last resort he performed a spinal tap. That spinal tap confirmed I had MS. I know most people don't like the idea of having a spinal tap, but it is something to think about. Especially if your doctor is stumped. I have been on Copaxone for 3 years, and I have responded very well to it.
Avatar m tn I have been utilizing my CPAP treatment since my diagnosis and until this year, when I moved and began seeing a new doctor, I have had my machine on automatic titration. My new doctor said that this was not a good thing and I went through a titration study. My machine is now set to a setting of 9. Previously, when my machine was on automatic, my machine was exerting pressures to 22 at certain points in time throughout the night.
Avatar f tn I was sent home from the hospital with a temporary cpap and am being scheduled for a sleep study. I am having trouble using the cpap machine. I am afraid to sleep as the doctor did say that with this apnea the brain forgets to tell you to breath. They said my oxygen levels dropped to 64 during the night. I have developed swollen legs, ankles and feet. Should I call the doctor about this or just wait till after the study. The swelling will go down if I am laying down most of the day.
359574 tn?1328360424 My extreme fatigue is being chalked up to the sleep apnea, which I hope the CPAP will fix. It will also cure my high blood pressure, impaired fasting glucose, obesity, nighttime urinary frequency, wrinkles, zits, dull hair and yellow teeth, and give me the ability to tap dance and play the piano. The paresthesias, and my urge incontinence and constipation are being attributed to the damage in my c-spine, which is permanent. Good thing the symptoms are slight.
Avatar f tn t have fluoridated water theorectically the pills would only be replacing the amount of fluoride you would normally get from tap water there is a chance that highly fluoridated tap water could interefere with thyroid meds. You should also avoid triclosan, it's an ingredient in some mouthwashes, soaps, toothepastes, deodorants, dishwashing detergents, & I think shampoos. But the FDA requires that all products that include triclosan list it on the label, so you can spot it easily.
Avatar f tn I had my spinal tap 3 days ago. I had slight pressure in my head that improved when laying down. I even made it through 1/2 a day of work yesterday. Now I also have a stopped up head and little bit of a runny nose. Today I woke up with a headache--still just pressure. It increases when I move. It does not get better when I lay down. Feels like I could be coming down with something. How do I know the difference between a spinal headache and a sinus headache?
Avatar f tn I finally got my spinal tap results back, and between that and my VER, my doc said it was enough to diagnose me with MS!! My joy was taken from me when he said " however"!!! My VER showed abnormalities in both eyes, so now I'm waiting on blood work to see if it's not NMO. Never heard of this before, but he kinda explained it. Sounds like MS's evil twin!! So, on the 19th I will either start Avonex or treatment for NMO (devic disease)!!!
233622 tn?1279334905 One more thing, about the thick-neck image some MDs feel is a prerequisite for sleep apnea: I don't have it either!! Just as I didn't have the requisite headache for blood patch after spinal tap, I also don't have a thick neck for CPAP. My first sleep study didn't bring me the CPAP I so badly needed because the MD told me I didn't fit the CPAP body image (not sure he even looked at the report the tech prepared).
Avatar m tn I also use Xanax on an occasional basis when I'm having sleep difficulties. I like it because I have never felt hung over and it helps me sleep even if it is restless limbs that have me awake. The sleeping pills I have tried either leave me hung-over, awake in a few hours, or staggering around as I try to escape the increased RLS symptoms they produce. I haven't tried klonipin but I have tried a few different muscle relaxants here and there.
Avatar n tn i just went for my second sleep study to be hooked up to the cpap. the first one said i quit breathing and was breathing very shallow. once i get my new machine how long will it take to be back to 100%. i could tell the morning after that i did feel a little better and did not have a headaache.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
